Lux's Indulgences - 12. Thyme

A flash in the dark

Lightning, piercing the night

Unexpectedly out of season

Warmth gives way to grey

Chills and snow

An unusual respite no longer

They say it’s unusual

The opposite of the way

Things should be

But as we all know

By now, things are

Never what they seem

Time slips by

The body grows old

And even the world falls apart

The sprig of thyme

Which flourished night and day

Must dry and wilt away

But oils and smells essential

Are left behind

Powerful memories

Waiting to be cooked

Into something to be

Consumed

Something to nourish

And cherish

And renew

Nice ... love the images, the essential oils in thyme and what they can evoke whether you're holding a sprig or reading your words.

Thanks for reading and enjoying. I found an old recording of a choir I once sang with and was inspired by a folk song we sang for one concert. This thyme was taken in a different direction, though. :)

Time and Thyme... everything eventually changes into something different... enjoys a new use. Cyclical like the seasons... a fitting poem for this time of year... I liked this, lux... it made me think and feel, and damned if I didn't smell thyme :) ... cheers... Gary....

Thanks Gary. The weather lately was another source of inspiration, all this weirdness and now back to the cold again... sigh.
