Weekly Wrap Up (May 12 - May 18)

I can't decide where to start tonight I had an idea, an overused idea, then when thinking of that idea, I had another idea. So I have 1 new and 1 old idea. Do you have any idea how happy I am So new idea, I know a lot of stories get written here and a lot are incomplete and a lot more are complete. So here is my question, I will limit it to 3 stories. I know there is things to be said about digitizing our medical system, but in the fall when a doctor was considering give me a tetanus shot since I don't keep track of them and who remembers 10 years, he looked it up and found the last one was 6 years ago. I struggle with short stories. I once thought I was blunt and to the point. Not so many words or themes that wouldn't add a lot of length. Now I know that was never true and I fooled myself. I have plenty of failed Anthology stories that went well past the word count sitting in folders. I hardly ever finish them. I'm working on one now that should have been a short story and I am closing in on 7 parts and 70k. It would strain me and drive me insane, I think, to truly sit down and write a pure st -

On January 3, 1972, Henry Kissinger sent a Top Secret assessment of North Vietnamese hostile activity in Laos and South Vietnam to President Nixon. The President’s handwritten response on the document says that the result of decade long U.S. air superiority in Laos and South Vietnam “= Zilch”. He thinks there is something wrong with Air Force strategy and wants an explanation for that deficiency in two weeks. -
The appearance in Ballyhoo was in 1933. Ballyhoo folded for its second and final time in 1954. -
@Myr's example was "The divorce left him with zilch." All I have to say to that is, been there, done that. -
My research came up with a different origin. First of all, Zilch is a German surname of Slavic origin. The usage became popular in the 1960s due to a comic character, Mr. Zilch, in the magazine Ballyhoo.

The general consensus is zilch first originated in 1920's college and theater slang.

I shocked my pals when I used a windlass fashioned out of stuff in the back of his truck attached to an oak tree to pull his truck out of a muddy bog. Archimedes was wrong about using a lever and a fulcrum to move the world. You need a windlass too. Redneck engineering is fun and has gotten me out of so much trouble. I won't say what we were doing in that bog. 😇
