October CSR Feature: Aditus' Halloween Horror Themes 2013: From the Ashes Spring new Life

    By Cia

Well, October has hit... and it's in the 70s and 80s here. Like, what a switcheroo. Where's my cool and rainy fall? Boo! Just like the character in this short story by Aditus was expecting one thing and got another in this horror-themed short, perfect for this month! It's an older story, so many of the members on this site may not have read it. I've been here for 17 years now, apparently, so I remember when this was posted and popular. Like a vampire, I also live FOREVER, muahahahah! (Nah, I'm j

You Say it's Your Birthday

Well, it's somebody's birthday today   🐧so I figured I would post some totally random stuff that probably only makes sense to me.  And probably @chris191070 and his time-traveling capybara.  My birthday present from everyone can be writing a prompt response.  @wildone     PT Prompt #342 Use the following word list in a story:  ceiling fan, penguin, closet, snapdragon, fork, rutabaga, otter  PT Prompt #343 Tell the story of a birthday gone either horribly wrong, or

Why Write Short Stories?

I love reading short stories.  Well-written short stories pack a punch and make the reader think.  I still remember reading stories like The Lottery and Flowers for Algernon in school.  I won't say how long ago that was...   I also love writing short stories.  For me, they're an experiment.  Sometimes it's a thought experiment - I wonder what would happen if.... Sometimes it's a form experiment.  Writing in third person vs first person or writing a story without dialogue. @Libby Drew wrote a won

Gary approached me a few months ago and said he can help out with a review or 2 a year. Which is great, and really appreciated!! Weekly Wrap Up (May 31 - Jun. 6)

I want to get into the question of the week right away   I loved the Weekly Prompts this week from Aditus! So much so that I'm going to borrow his question  Do you listen to music, and if you do, what do you prefer? Radio, streaming, playlists, one person said satellite TV/ Maybe someone out there has an 8-track or cassette player that they haven't retired. If you have an 8 track, I honestly don't believe there is a 8 track tape that has survived this long  For you younger folks, look it up

Video Killed the Radio Star?

They played this song on the radio while I was driving to work. It made me think. Is anyone but me still listening to the radio, or do you prefer to stream your favorite playlists, podcasts, or audiobooks? I like the radio in the morning. I catch up on the news, good or bad, and the local weather report, and I get to hear new or very old songs. This week's prompts have been inspired by the aforementioned song. June CSR Feature: FrankD's Fourth Down: Second Quarter

Well, we're hitting the halfway point of the year, so why not a story that literally mentions a halfway point of something? Some might also consider parenthood a halfway point in our lives in adulthood, between youth and middle age (I'm not old just because my children are grown!)  Here's this month's feature for you to enjoy, rated 5 stars with several recommendations as well!  Fourth Down: Second Quarter by @FrankD Length: 38,744 Description: Hunter and Dale are all set for
