EMoe57 Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Can you just imagine the explanation? Brian's family: Why do we have to move to Nevada? President Reagan: Because Brian is going to be Davey's husband OO OO OO DAN! I like this one. Think you could rework the dialog to make that the reason?
dkstories Posted May 4, 2005 Author Posted May 4, 2005 Well, I got a little pissed off at various things today and wrote DOR anyways. Currently I have four 1-megaton ICBM warheads falling on Eureka, killing everyone. So, why bother rewriting? Let me calm down a bit and things will end up being deleted.

ethan thorn Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Wonderfull great if it was a movie worth every cent. Now when do we get to see 19.
kitjed23 Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Wow, I wasn't expecting that! Pity about the time-travel scientist. He doesn't have much luck does he? I am liking the whole 'move-Davey's-friends-from-Modesto-to-Eureka' plot twist. Now all my favourite characters get to be together! I'm sensing troubled waters ahead for Brian and Davey's relationship however. Davey is just a little too certain.
dkstories Posted May 6, 2005 Author Posted May 6, 2005 Chapter 19 should be posted in about five hours when Myr wakes up. I'm going to remind people, please read the chapter before taking a look at my blog entry. Myr usually goes in and makes my blog visible after he posts the chapter, so DO NOT go read it before you read the chapter. There is MAJOR spoilage there, and you will hate yourself for reading it before you read the chapter. I'd love to hear lots of feedback from people (either in blog comments or on the forum) after this chapter. For some reason as I edited it tonight, I realized I really liked this chapter. Edit: I alway write the blog entry the night before posting, after doing the final edit and getting the chapter into html for Myr. I almost forgot to get the chapter ready for posting because I was going over some other stuff...but I remembered in time.
primewordsmith Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 ...but I remembered in time. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh, thank goodness. Praise the Lord!
Rad Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Dear dkstories, NOOOOO...you killed Nanny! I like that character. Gone too the cousins and uncle and aunt.... I hope they're the only ones that was tortured and killed as you put it. Siggghhh...inevitable I know. I've been thinking how long is it gonna be until you begin the rampage. Only Davey's mom and sister killed last time. (Sniff, sniff) What will happen to Davey's relationship with his mom? If she blamed him fiercely over his dad's near-death experience, whatever will she do with her own mom's demise. As in tortured then killed. Chapter 19 will be very exciting. Hufff..... I must tell you, my heart was beating fast when I read this chapter. Davey's journey into the base. Into the Command Center and meeting the brass. His learning that the scientist was abducted, his friends held hostage, his family was in danger. It was surreal. My excitement grew by the lines. Davey was heartsick because Brian was in danger. Thenn..the BAD news. The murder torture and murder of his family. For the life of me, why didn't they just storm the house? Woooowww... it was surreal.... man. What will happen now? It WAS a price worth paying. Brian coming back to him. I thought you'd do it a little less bloody. Then again if you did, it wouldn't be you. Slightly better news. It was the best news. Brandon, Brian and Trevor safe. I really2x wonder what will Davey say to them. "Er...I'm a time traveller and Brian's husband.." naaah. I'm gonna wait their conversation. Are you gonna do it romantically? *grinning* Or will Davey play dumb and witheld his knowledge from Brian? Playing it safe, letting it go naturally. I thought Mr. Mulkey was kinder. Why his attitude? Poor David. So much for the torch. Brian's coming. Hehehehehe, will you play jealousy there. David hating Brian and so on. This really was a thrilling chapter. I really2x like it. Thrill, suspense, bad news, all here. With Brian and the old gang coming things will be much more interesting. I'll be waiting for your reply and the next chapter Dan. With kind regards from Rad
primewordsmith Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Oh boy. Well, that at least doubled or tripled the threads to be juggled in the weave. This is going to stretch the memory. A lot. Dan, I think there must be a word for people like you. Except I've never heard it, because I suspect you are totally unique, and no-one has ever come up with the right word. Yet. But I am quite sure the best word to describe you, once it has been philologised, would never be used in polite society. Oh boy. *stunned*
Guest emily Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 I've been wondering about how all of this will play out. How has this forced quarantine of "high risk gays" that's been going on for a couple of years now going to affect not just Brian and Brandon, but society as a whole? Dan has touched on it somewhat, but I have a feeling we are soon going to become more intimately familiar with the problems that the policy has caused. People aren't just going to stay in the closet, they are going to padlock themselves in. Brian will be in a state of upset when he gets to the base. Hmmm... teenager...volatile emotions...raging hormones...24/7 curfew... should be interesting.
Masked Monkey Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Brian is definitely going to be an extremely angry total closet case. If you notice, Davey didn't seem all to broken up by Brian's (TL2b) death. Since he thought Brian was outside the bubble, he figured he was gone anyway. As to why everything is so different, I suspect it has more to do with Davey's decision to significantly interfere with the timeline as soon as he arrived. Of course he did it out of necessity because of the Chineese time traveler, but he set in course a series of events that significantly altered some of the common themes of TL1 and TL2, and the story would not be as much fun if he hadn't.
Rad Posted May 9, 2005 Posted May 9, 2005 Dear dkstories, Wooohooo!! I'd never expect Sean to be from the future! Wow! Maaan, you're so full of surprises. You said Brandon and Brian were killed. Too bad. But, they're gonna 'gone' too when the buble, as you said it collapse along with the rest of the future world. At least now Davey has the chance to really start from the beginning. Poor Sean, Brandon taunted him. I remember that the trio (Brian, Brandon, Trevor) was only open-minded because Davey made them so. Their families too. What will they say.... Speaking of which, I'm really2x curious on what Davey will say in chapter 20. All but the Breckenridges have never met him, and the last time he saw the Breckenridges were in 1981. I really wanna see how they will react to the news. Curious, wether or not Davey will tell Brian about their relationship. Sean too. What will Brandon say seeing Sean there? Or, what will the government say having two time-travellers? Hmhmhmhmhm, China has two too. I expect something to happen between the US and Chinese governments. You know the showdown between Reagan (and Davey) with Alexei and Shevardnadze (God, I should be given spelling trophy for this)? Will that happen in this timeline? Hmmmm...between Deng Xiaoping and Reagan. Rear Admiral Lower Half seemed a mouthful of words. Why did they change it from Commodore? Far easier to remember (and write and speak). Commodore Perry. Rear Admiral Lower Half Perry? Hell, I don't think it's wrong to relish the death of an enemy. If Mullah Omar and OBL were dead I'd be relishing it. Ugghh. Things got ugly I see. Hehehe, you like giving the characters a change of parts huh? First it was Davey's mom and Jenny against his dad. Now all is reversed. I wonder....who else will get a chance of parts? NOT Brian of course. What is the grassy knoll theory? Something's gotta do with JFK assassination? So, Brian, Trevor and Brandon are coming. Exciting. I wanna see how Davey will manage to rebuild the friendship, how he'll manage with his friends in Eureka too. BTW I've looked on the Eureka website. You said looking at the VFD is like reading the yearbook. It looke slike most of your friends decide to stay. Ever think of going back there and meet them? Also, why didn't the Navy give Davey his rank and all his ribbons back? The thing I like most about a military uniform is the rows of ribbons and the medals. Hehehehe I imagine Davey, in full uniform, making the introduction to Brian and others, "I'm Admiral Davey Jones of US Navy" *giggling* imagine the shock! I'd never thought Davey's mom would disown him. she didn't even know he's gay! What next? Betraying him to the enemy? As for the scandal about junior doctors, can that thing happen? In real life? Selling med equipment, seemed like what junior doctors in a public hospital might do. Not from USAF doctors. Hey Dan, if you want to know about China when her civilization towers above all, I suggest you read "Manchu" by Robert Elegant. It is set in the reign of the last Ming Emperor (17th cent.) amid the passion and savagery of a dying Dynasty. Impressive. China was like US today. She had all and desired nothing. She looked down on the rest of the world (called the westerners 'Ocean Barbarian'). Throughout the story comparisons are always made between China and the west. The story has it all. Bloodshed, intrigue, sex and betrayal. Not to mention adventure and espionage. Oh well, that's for now Dan. I'll write again later. Thanks and I'll be waiting for chapter 20 k? With kind regards, Rad

Killed or not Brian would be gone when the bubble collapsed. After seeing handsome, sexy stud like Davey I wonder how long will Brian remain a closet case? Davey'll make advances I'm sure. what about David? Will he put out any resistance? Cheers! Rad
CypherLou Posted May 10, 2005 Posted May 10, 2005 (edited) :sigh: I should have known better than to have had a frenzied marathon reading session of the entire Do Over Redux... (up to chapter 19) I feel so touched and sad for Davey. No matter how much he tries to delude himself, he and Brian can never have the same life they had before. He's already a multi-millionaire and Brian will not feel like an equal partner and no matter the cover story, the Modesto kids have been uprooted from their home because of Davey, and will resent him somewhat for that. Also it'll be obvious from the get-go that he's no ordinary teen, and they won't have the friendship with him built up as they had in Time Line 2 before finding out his time-traveling secret. Even if he and Brian did get together, Brian would realize that Davey's always going to see him as the Brian in that other life that hasn't happened for Brian and it would be strained because Davey has all this intimacy already for Brian and Brian had only recently become acquainted with Davey. Maybe Davey will eventually come to his senses on this (I know, fat chance of that) and turn to one of his Eureka friends, David perhaps? Who knows? There were some typograpical errors that distracted a little from the story, but mostly I'm just going insane with waiting to see what happens next. I just turned 39 this past week and I guess I'm not as patient as I used to be when I was younger. By the way, Dan, "used to" is more correct than "use to" when meaning "accustomed to." Sure, when it's spoken the d is not pronounced, but it's still spelled "used to." Okay, that's enough of the grammar lesson. (damned Catholic education) Well, I looked it up and it's more complex than that. When coupled with "do" it really IS "use to." :sigh: Here's the URL for a better explanation: http://www.bartleby.com/64/C001/065.html Isn't the English language fun?! (and eating crow is tasty) Anyway, write! I want to find out what happens next! Edited May 10, 2005 by CypherLou

dkstories Posted May 11, 2005 Author Posted May 11, 2005 That is Myr's fault...he puts those in there...
Bocian Posted May 12, 2005 Posted May 12, 2005 These stories are addictive; I've spent two days doing little else than reading them. Thank goodness for vacation time. I found DO on Nifty and followed the links back to GA for the whole thing, glad that the story was finished only to start reading DOR and find that it's not. I don't know how I will make it between Fridays. There is so much to love about the stories that I don't know where to begin talking about them. There are a few small things that I don't understand as well like why the Nobel Prize ceremony was held in Geneva, Switzerland. If the Doctor got the Peace Prize, that ceremony would be in Oslo, Norway. If it were the Biology, Chemistry, or any other Nobel Prize, that would be in Stockholm, Sweden. That's just the sort of nit picking I'm good at. I suppose I'm not unlike Davey's late Grandma. When Dan wins the Nobel Prize for Literature, I'm sure the place of the ceremonies will be straightened out. Anyway, about the story where it stands now: I'm so anxious to have Trevor, Brian, Brandon, and Sean return to the action. Brian and Davey's love shows the utopian (heterotopian?) impulse that pervades the story stripped to its purest form. Though in DOR so far it's been a tragic element, the love is still there on Davey's part and I'd hate to see that theme of faithfulness and devotion dissipate--these guys show true love in a way that makes Romeo and Juliette seem silly. But it's not just about Brian's return. I really miss Trevor and his family (mostly because I speak Russian and lived in Ukraine and Poland, so they appeal to my prejudices). Sean introduces a wildcard aspect of a second time traveler who can reproduce the time travel device and actually knows Davey from the last time (and perhaps the time before that is buried in there somewhere too). Most of all though, these are guys in whom we have invested so much time and character development at this point that it seems a waste not to use them more. In DO, after Brian and Davey go to private school, the other guys melt away and I missed them then as I do now. As much as one may like the Nevada friends in DOR, we simply haven't gotten to know them as well and I am certainly not as emotionally invested in them. The Communist takeover of Argentina really intrigues me now and I'd be interested to see how that progresses, especially since we've already seen Reagan invoke the Monroe Doctrine once. Considering what Nixon did to Allende (a moderate Socialist), it seems strange the US would leave alone or let come into existance a Communist administration in it's backyard. Of course, within the narrative, the obvious path to take Argentina was for them to immediately and unwaveringly align with China. However, as a radical liberal (in American sense of "liberal"), I am curious about the consistent portrayal of Communism as "bad". I realize this is the 1980s and that is how most Americans at the time thought, but Communism was never the problem; Totalitarianism was the problem. Just as you can have a capitalist dictatorship or a capitalist republic, you could conceivable have a communist democratic republic. That it has never been tried does not say it could not. Too often we confuse economic systems with government systems. Anyway, in DO we saw many Capitalist countries align with the Soviet Union. It would be an interesting twist to portray a "good" communist country with a representative government emerge and support the US. That was, after all, the dream of Ho Chi Minh before being dissillusioned with the Americans by their military cooperation with colonialists. Perhaps if not Argentina, Venezuala. They have both oil and Communist and Socialist movements. Indeed, I was surprised that Aleksei, our New Russian, would try to keep the Soviet Union Communist economically. His real interest, looking at the situation in retrospect, was to maintain totalitarian system and imperial domain that priviledged his family, not the economic form. I would have thought Aleksei's CCCP would look more like modern China--economically very Capitalistic while the party oligarchy still holds the reins and does not let go of its imperial possessions (like Tibet for China or Kazakhstan for Russia). As I have said, there is so much I coiuld write on from these stories, but I will not drone endlessly. I am looking forward to the next chapters. I hate waiting, but this is worth waiting for.
Rad Posted May 16, 2005 Posted May 16, 2005 Hey Dan, I'm a bit confused here. You said the Soviets couldn't build a time machine because Alexei didn't know enough about the inner workings of the machine. But in the first Do Over it was Alexei who guided the Soviets to build a time machine. How is it possible? Besides, why wouldn't the computer equipment exist for another decade? Davey sure knows a lot. I bet he can tell what is needed and how to research it. The dangers of building another time machine? What about the dangers of NOT building another machine? What do you mean by it gets worse each time? What happen is an unfortunate event, sure, but I don't see why it is linked with the machine. Are you telling me that everytime a power loses a war with USA, it will send back another man into time to rectify things? Jeeeez...Davey will be stuck in the 1981-2004 timeline forever. What a twilight zone.... One more thing. If the Soviets and the Chinese succeed in building another machine, and the US too, whatever will be done with the machine? Send someone back? Again? Oh gawd, the harvest is ruined, we should've start planting in May, let's send someone back. How on earth can you prevent that? It's not like they will advertise. Besides, if the detente is reached, USSR and China will also have suspicions on US. What if US send someone back? Like that. Well, this one is outside the topic but I always wanna know. USSR is CCCP in Russian. You know Russian right? What does that stand for in Russian [in latin alphabet please]? Anyway, back to the story. Sooo. You killed Chris and aunt Fran. Now whatever is gonna happen to his molester, is he going to walk free? I hope you'll get back on this later Dan. I really wanna see that molester end up in jail. Who is this Tracy? What do you mean she turned her own kid for a reward? Sounds heartless.... I do think that Davey will likely be betrayed by his family. Perhaps his mom? In revenge, after all she no longer consider Davey her son. Though I don't cherish the desruction of Davey's relationship with his mom and sister, I have to tell you I like it that he patches things up with his dad. His dad is fast becoming his confidante and the shoulder to cry on. Okay. Davey said he'll be home for the holidays after he's eighteen. Will he ever make it to.....oh well, Naval Academy? With all that has happened, will they feel safe with him outside a well-guarded military compound? BTW I like your description in the first time line when Davey and Brian went to college [or was it Naval Academy?] too bad it's too short. The war came too fast. Dr. Breshears blew a smoke ring at the general? But he's only a Colonel! Don't they court-martialed such offense from an officer to another officer above his rank? Besides, I have NEVER seen any doctor who smokes when he's around a patient! How come Dr. Breshears smokes? It's dangerous for the patients. Wow. I never knew that Brian, Brandon and Trevor were bullying jocks in the first time line. I vaguely remember Brandon and Davey being friends again after Davey's return from Eureka, around the time when they talk about Brian's wedding. Hey Dan, you ever watch Red Dawn ? The invasion of US by USSR. You think it's plausible? I did expect difficulties from Brian and Davey's second meeting. I never expected hostile reactions from Brian. Ashamed ? He's ashamed that they've met before? Right now I'm thinking wether or not Brian is turning into asshole like Davey's mom. Blaming him for all that goes wromg in this timeline. As if it wasn't enough that Davey lost twelve family members. Brian blames Davey for the death of his uncle. Jeeeeezz.....! I hope he's not going to be like Davey's mom. Hufffff..Davey has a loooong way to go with Brian. I dunno, perhaps he could reach out to him through Brandon and Trevor. Or give Brian sometime, Eureka guys are with him after all. All in all, I realy wanna see how Davey will try to rebuild his friendship with Trevor and Brandon also his relationship with Brian. Also how he will balance things between the Brian and the modesto guys with Derek and the Eureka guys. Well, that's all for now. I'll be waiting for chapter 21. Cheers!
Masked Monkey Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 I did expect difficulties from Brian and Davey's second meeting. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Take that back. Take that back NOW :2hands: If there is a hero in the story, it isn't Davey, it's Brian. Brian is the alchemist's stone that turned the piece of shit Davey into the awsome guy he is now. Why the hell shouldn't the Brian of this timeline blame Davey, and long before he found out about time travel. After his dad was shot, on the same day he made sure that Biran got to see his uncle, and the obvious resulting news coverage, it wouldn't have taken a rocket scientist to realize that Davey has "a lot" to do with this quarantine stuff. Then to find out that Davey WAS the reason for the quaranine and did nothing to help his uncle, I've been pissed at Davey about that. Yes Brian was embarrased, you would be too if the guy you have very intamate fantasies about was standing in front of you, telling you he was 60 years old and knew you from a previous time. Gawd, that would be like pulling your pud with thoughts of you grandfather. Brian IS NOT and NEVER WILL BE like Davey's mom. She is concerned with her own self interest, not the welfare of anyone else. She is not a bad person, she is just self-centered. Brian isn't a 60 year old trapped in a 15 year old's body, he is a 15 year old who has been severely damaged by life and the loss of his only role model. In TL1 it led him to get that bitch pregnant, and, I'm sure, love his kid. In TL2, Davey not only made it okay to be gay, but made it right .. Davey filled a hole inside Brian that was left there by the loss of his uncle. Here, Davey didn't fill the hole, he helped create it. Brian is a 15 year old in extreme emotional pain. He is alone and scared to be gay (look what happens to people who are). If you bag on Brian any more, I might get mad, he has done NOTHING wrong. The only thing I am hoping to see is that in this timeline, Brian got the bitch (or some other bitch) pregnant so that now Davey and Brian get to raise a kid. Oh, and before Dan is done, just how may times is Davey going to take Brian's cherry ?
