I've been reading DOR forum posts and DK blog comments for awhile now and one thing has me puzzled. I hope somebody will shed some light for me here...

 

We are 16 chapters into DOR and the chants are growing:

Where's Brian and when is he going to be in the story?

 

What is the fascination with Brian? The story was never about him

I think the fasination with Brian is because we all want to see the man behind the man ( Yes I did Change that quote), he has helped Dave become what he is. We also want to see if Dave and Brian get back together, and also see his reaction to Dave' s Second Do Over, how would he feel that Dave left his Brian in order to do his duty.

I think it comes from the way Do Over went and where we hear about how much Brian and Davey were together, but never really got to see a lot of it...

For my faithful readers...I had to draw a map of the base in Eureka so I could keep my bearings while moving Davey around it in Chapters 17, 18, and so on. So, I put some labels on there and emoe turned it into a gif so...here ya go.

My reason is one of the reasons why I love Dan and Dom's stories... I'm a romantic. Stories of people too stupid to realize what they have, and then seeing how they get that realization... or in the case of Davey, someone who has a love so strong, it can overcome even a mad scientist (I hope!).

 

Davey and Brian's devotion to each other - through drunken kisses with a girl, through being outed and vilified, through deat... I mean through nuclear missiles, and now hopefully, through having to start it all over again...

 

 

PS - and yes, it's also about the eyebrows And hearing Brian emphasize to someone "He's MINE"

I'm a hopeless Romantic too and can't wait for Davey and Brian to reunite. While Davey gets to play superhero -- saving the world, fighting evil--he doesn't get to come home to his loving Brian (yet). I remember in the early chapters of DOR feeling terrible while Davey had to cry himself to sleep missing Brian or when he saw Brian at the Hospital wanting to visit uncle Bill.

 

Knowing that the two of them had an awesome time together in DO, I can't help but be anxious with what will happen to them in this lifetime. Will they get back together? Will their love be as strong as it was before? Only Dan and Emoe know at this point

No NO NOO, see this is what happens, the girl Brian's been dating gets knocked up. Then Davey comes to get his boy. Then girl gives Baby to Brian and Davey to raise togeather.

 

See these DO are needed to get it the way it should be.

Hmm, the idea of the son would be nice, but Brian is not like that... He is devoted to only the one person he loves... that was his trouble the first time. Then, Davey gave him someone worthy of loving with the do over... So, yeah, they are kinda like star-crossed lovers in my book.... Very romatic!! So, I hold out the hope for Brian and Davey!

Emoe has gotten hints, suggestions, and descriptions of what I'm thinking of doing, but he's not gotten the the full view yet.

 

It keeps changing every time I get Davey and Brian in a room together. The patterns swirl and both characters keep on interacting in ways that I can't control.

I wouldn't put it past Dan to have Davey and Brian not get together this time, after all he has shown just how different things can be with the slightest changes in time, however I don't think even Dan is capable of stopping them getting together.

Redux has focused a lot more on laying down the basic everyday life of Davey, not just the bigger events, though this time around his everyday life is considerably more sedate, most likely due to his experience in the past and trying to handle things different this time. For everyone that has been waiting for the "action" to pick up, (myself included) I have no doubt that Dan has bigger things planned this time, yes the slow start to Redux was frustrating but if Dan hadn't done it the differences between timelines would have been less apparent. I can already see some of the events on the horizon, after all Dan has left clues, of course he could be leaving false ones but I expect Bush senior to be a big player in it all, also watch what happens with Tammy, somehow I don't think she'll be to happy when she finds out davey's gay.

 

Anyways I'll stop trying to start rumours as always Dan I'm awaiting the next chapter hopefully it will be out before Friday

Ooh migawd! I'm GLAD you didn't kill Davey's dad. His dad has changed. NO longer the pedophilic and bigotic monster he once was. I was so SURPRISED in chapter 15. How was the funeral? I thought his dad is dead! Damn! You like to scare people don't you? Ugghhh.. I'm just glad you didn't kill him.

 

Davey's mom turned out to be a b****. Blaming her twelve year-old son for the incident? Granted Davey's not a usual 12 year-old. Still, Ishe should'v acted better than that. It's not like Davey dragged his dad over there. Funny to think how everything is turned around. The relatives who were bad became good, while the ones who were good became less tolerable. That word-fight in the bedroom. Hehehehe, I like how Davey's argument drove the point to his mom. How did you thought up such argument anyway? Every point is almost unassailable. Besides, everybody accept Davey as he was. Why would she not? Always bitching and moaning about uinmportant stuffs. Dragging God into the matter too. If I were Davey I'd stormed out and not talking to her agian if she didn't have anything better to say.

 

In both Do Over you describe Ronald Reagan as fatherly and understanding. Was he that kind of man? He seemed doted to Davey and almost always stand to him against his advisers. Bush gonna go huh? Good. I'm guessing he's as crazy as his son. The Gulf War was sanctioned though. He's better at diplomacy. The invasion of Iraq wasn't. Hell, I was only a kid back then and I support that Gulf War.

 

Margaret Thatcher. The Iron Lady. She's tough wasn't she. I thought it was careless for the Argentinians to invade Malvinas. Sparking the Malvinas War. Their navy and air force were outgunned. Though through sheer force of will they sank several important British ships. What was Leopoldo Galtieri think? Declaring war against a Great Power. He didn't even have a navy worth mentioning. Hehehehe, I didn't know you follow the scandals? I was surprised you even mention it here. Why? I'm a fan of Lady Di. I think Charles is a moron to marry Camilla The Homewrecker. I hope you'll give updates on this monarchy brouhaha, so once in while we can smile over them

 

1984. Why did you jump 1983? I like reading about the war with Argentina. WWII carrier? Wow, they really were desperate huh? Hmm, Davey's day-to-day activities. One full year was jumped. Now we see Eureka booming. I saw Eureka's website too *grin* looks like a sleepy beside-the-road town. The map you attached really gave a learer picture of where Davey lives. It looks like he's the only one who lives near the base. Why the attraction with the troops Getting interested are we? lol! Why not having one of the troops flirt with Davey. BTW I had hoped there would be Brian here. Guess not. Care to tell me when Brian will be featured? He'd fall to the slut's clutches if Davey waits too long.

 

Okay. What's going on here. Uncle Billy showed up and fix Davey's phone. Was there a big mess at the top? They didn't realize Billy's a family. What is a BDU? What is rank E-9? What is BEQ? Sorry. I thought I had been stopped after not meeting up the expectations. Jerry Falwell, I know him, he's the Protestant Fundamentalist right? Who always bring Bible and wearing a thousand-dollar suit. Hypocrite.

DOR 19

The Shining Path guerillas were Maoists.

 

They crossed the Andes into Argentina to successfully overturn the military junta there. That made their march across the spine of South America even more outstanding than the Long March of Mao himself. And as they pulled their own artillery field pieces with them, it rated about as highly as Ho Chi Minh's manoeuvres to finally defeat the French occupiers of that long mistreated country.

 

Since Mao was not an idealogue like Lenin and Trotsky in the Soviet Union, but much more pragmatic, a similarly pragmatic form of communism developed in Argentina. Many countries in the world came to think this was a good thing.

 

The communists in Argentina managed to get themselves properly organised. It was their stated intention to stop the North Americans propping up other military dictatorships in the region, like that Panamanian military dictatorship originally set up under Noriega by the CIA, when it was headed by the former Vice-President George Bush, before he entered politics.

 

They were implacably opposed to the cocaine trade in Colombia, and wanted to ensure none of that nonsense happened in Argentina. They remembered the Opium Wars in China, where the British used gun ships to force the Chinese to allow British trading vessels to import Indian opium into China, and export chests of silver in exchange. The communists in Argentina had no intention of allowing any nation to force themselves into their own internal sovereign affairs, and were especially wary of the "North American Empire".

 

An increasing number of free countries around the globe were beginning to hold similar ideas.

 

This caused President Reagan considerable concern. But what caused the President even more concern was Davey.

 

Davey's reaction to the deaths of his grandparents and other relatives, plus the deaths of his former timeline adoptive parents, Mr and Mrs Rush, at the hands of Chinese agents, had hardened his hatred of the Chinese into an obsession. Plus Davey had been heard to whisper he would nuke Beijing, if he could get his hands on a nuclear missile. This had been quite properly reported to the President. And the President was really worried.

 

President Reagan, who knew their history in Davey's last timeline, was thinking the only way to keep Davey from going right off the rails, was to ensure Brian gave Davey the security and stability afforded by their complete unhindered love for each other.

 

The question was how.

As I see it, Davey has a big problem with Brian for several reasons:

 

1. Brian is extremely loyal to his "partner," he stuck by Davey through thick and thin in DO and stayed with the bitch he didn't really like (cause he was gay) in his first life. He will have probably found someone in DOR by the time Davey and him get together, and how can Dan let Brian change that much.

 

2. In DOR it isn't ok to be gay, Brian probably won't give up what he has even if he fell in love with Davey at the quarantine center, just thinking of how they treated his uncle and the mood of the country.

3. If he tells Brian the whole story Brian won't want him since Davey DOES NOT DESERVE BRIAN because he left him, after a bunch of years together, to perform a service to his country. While the Brian of DO might accept that type of behavior after falling in love with Davey, I don't think the Brian of DOR would accept 2nd place in Davey's heart PRIOR to falling in love with Davey -- yet another cost of screwing with the past.

 

 

Of course the only reason I can stomach all the crap that Dan puts the characters through is because he has never failed to give me a happy ending

Read it and without spoiling my reviews (yeah right, as if anyone reads that ), I'll say it's good. Quite a bit of surprise though to get a DOR chapter today... but it was worth it. Does that mean we're getting Service on Friday then?
