Actually 4-6 years is supposed to be about perfect as far as age differences are concerned. :)

The great love of my life (so far) was 5 years younger. Worked just fine!

Another great chapter, Jack. Several different kinds of action and several very different problems resolved. Lou, Jr. avoids catastrophe while Jack Gamble seems to have things going his way. It will be interesting to see how and when he is reunited with Cray.

I'm still looking for that "blowback".

Had I been Lou, Jr, I would have insisted on having sex with Davey first...and then let Max have him. 0:) Bye-bye, Davey. :( There goes the body count again! :P

Jack and Phil are lookin' good!

Super chapter, Jack! :worship::worship:

Lou needs a good alibi just in case. Being in California at the time of Davey's disappearance is a good alibi.

What the last two chapters showed is that in at least some ways, Lou. Junior, is an idiot who thinks too often with the wrong brain.

And who is even likely to ever report Davey's disappearance? I doubt the Russian mobsters will call the NYPD and I doubt there is a student missing from Columbia U.

Who says the body will be found or that (if it is found) that it won't be ruled as an accident? :)

That was a good chapter, Jack. I did miss Cray and Spike though. The more of them we see, the better. :D

I just get a big Posted Image on my face when I see a new chapter of Shifting Sands has been posted. I particularly liked the happy ending to chapter 11.

I love Jack and Phil. (Prolly not the name Phil because I'm having problem with a Phil Posted Image )

Just as I said, I've been expecting them.

And I so want Jack and Cray to meet again. Waiting this for a change.

Obviously Lou is indeed a idiot, abandoning Spike, but it made sense to me that he didn't want Spike to get involved.

Okay, so I'm contradicting myself.

Anyway, I miss Drew and Bob.

And, GREAT CHAP., JACK!

Lou's a bright guy...except in personal relationships...but certainly let's 'little Lou' lead him astray. As Tiger points out, I don't think Davey will be surfacing anywhere.

Jack seems to be getting his personal life together. We'll get back to Las Vegas in the next chapter and see what's going on with our crew.

As others have posted, another great chapter. I really enjoy your characters and their lives. I, also, want to "see" more of Spike and Clay.

Been busy with volunteer work at the Palm Springs Film Festival (yes, I was at the Gala when Mariah did her 'thing') and haven't been on the computer much. However, I wanted to share an email I received recently that touched me:

Jack,

You have been on a writing streak the last few weeks.

It has dawned on me that you write two vignettes in each installment. Neat trick. With so many characters and sub plots that works out quite well. You have lots of character development completed and I am looking forward to what you do with them and how they will interact when they meet.

I feel like one of Charles Dickinson's readers, waiting breathlessly for the next installment. Only I don't have to buy the paper. For the last few years money has been tight for us and I stopped taking the Austin Statesman in favor of reading it at our local library.

Since my lover has now found gainful employment we are now above the poverty line and I may subscribe to it again. LOL

On paper I have no assets. As a result of that the 30,000.00 dollar per year drug bill to treat my AIDS and the side effects of those drugs cost me nothing. Long live socialize medicine. An old friend of mine asked me if I thought I was worth it. I told him that I had to stay alive in order to pay him what I owe him.

Jack, please keep writing. Even if you have to slow down your output to keep up the quality.

______

Aside from enjoying feedfack and reader comments, it pleases me that my scribblings give some people a chance to escape, for a short time, from their personal problems.

Great chapter, Jack! I'm glad Lou,Jr. made the effort to reconcile his friendship with Spike. He continues to be generous with Spike and Spike was exceptionally generous in return. :P

I'm ready for chapter 13.

Posted

I have to say that it was a good one. I loved what Spike did. It was a nice gesture and so fitting. It shows that he accepts Lou, flaws and all. And it's good to see his relationship with Cray flourishing.

Spence and Lou... Hmm...

Even tho Lou was a bit of a s**t with Spike, being the boss's son and having an AX Black Card has it's advantages. What Spike's feeling for Cray - and vice versa - is the real deal...but he realizes it's best to 'bury the hatchet' with Lou.

Spike was being "wicked smart" in how he handled Lou.

And someone must have briefed Spence since he made sure Lou, Jr., was aware of his parental role for his brother. I have to wonder if Lou, Jr., isn't thinking with his little brain in thinking he can get Spence up to New York for a whole weekend notwithstanding.

It will be interesting to see what Spike is dreaming up for marketing the new club, since Lou's call sort of interrupted him.

Anyhow I really enjoyed this chapter, Jack.

I think it's a mix of both. Lou obviously likes Spike, and he does not trust the local "guys" in NYC. It's smart thinking in a way, but he's definitely in lust. :P

Lou is definitely into lustful encounters. The incident in NYC, however, gave him a BIG warning to be careful about who he's screwing around with (literally and figuratively). As Tiger suggests, he likes Spike and knows that his former lover has his 'number'. I think that theschnauzers hit it right: Spike is 'wicked smart.' No reason to alienate Lou...in that LGJ offered an olive branch...and, instead, figure out how to keep the peace. With Cray in his life, the past is now moot.

I meant to say he likes Spence... gah, too many SP names. Anyway, Spike had the right idea. That's for sure.

If you haven't heard, Jack has released Chapter 13 of Shifting Sands. The chapter title is "Business as Usual" and that holds up most of the way, but Jack promised an OMG moment in his announcement and the chapter ending really is that...a very big surprise.

The thing I can't quite comprehend is Spike and Cray as babysitters. :P

Posted

Yay! Cray and Jack are one step closer to finding each other. They need a chance to reconnect. Jack has a lot of explaining to do, and there are fences to mend. As fro Cray and Spike babysitting, they'll do a fine job. Of this, I have no doubt.

Posted

That ending was definitely a OMG moment. :great: "You could have blown me over with a feather." is one line that would be apropos for Jack right then.

One thing I've never been good at is recognizing "likeness" between two people that are related, especially parents and their children. So for the woman to recognize Cray in Jack was simply amazing to me.

Yeah, there's some work comimg up for Cray and Jack, but it should all be worth it. With Phil around, Jack won't be making any excuses or procrastinating either...meaning he'll have Phil as a support rather than have to do it on his own. I think Jack will feel only gratitude for Drew and Bob, the way they took Cray under their wing.

Jack and Phil are just great together.

Yay exactly!

This chap, is just great, Jack. It features the two storylines I want to read the most.

I like Spence.

The ending is definitely an OMG moment. Great great chap.!
