Duncan Ryder has released Chapter 16 of How the Light Gets In.

Josh and Matt's conversation does not appear to have gone well. We can hope that it was sufficiently honest to eventually do some good, to bring the group of four young men closer together.

Scott seems to be the only one who can put his past disappointments behind him. I hope I don't find later that I'm wrong about that.

Thanks, Duncan, for another great chapter.

I'm so glad that Josh finally told Matt that he wasn't disgusted with him, but actually with himself. I just hope Matt internalizes it asap. And I was so proud of Matt for defending himself. He is worthy of accepting and returning Luc's love. We all know that after reading how tender and sweet they were together on the night Luc told him all about Daniel. Now Scott and Josh just have to realize it.

I should probably make it clear that I know that both Matt and Luc still have a lot to work out until they can be together, but I think they have grown considerably since they first met. Even Scott and Josh, whose relationship is old hat at this point for us readers are still working stuff out so I know it's probably going to be a while until Luc and Matt really define what exactly they are to one another. I just think Matt deserves more credit than he gets, he does have a heart of gold. And that closing scene with Matt left in awe of Luc's innocence and wonderment and beauty just made me feel like he was starting to fall in love with the fragile qu

Mike, thanks for starting the thread. I will respond to posts later, but I just wanted to say that I'm sorry it's been so long between chapters, and thank all of you who are staying with me. This story is somehow much harder to write that EW was...and I find myself writing and rewriting chapters repeatedly to get them the way I want them...

But I am back, and here, and the story is very much on my mind and I am working hard on it... so don't give up on me, !

Accolades! Accolades! Accolades! :worship::worship:

As always, Duncan. :2thumbs:

I believe Scott just laid his first egg, as it were. It was a doozy, too. Tell me, what does Scott know now about Matt that he didn't know when he first asked him to care for Luc? Didn't Josh make Scott aware of Matt's previous behaviour? Is Scott just realizing that he might have hired a fox to look after the hen house?

Another thing, how exactly is Matt supposed to stop Luc from liking/loving him?

Why is Luc falling for Matt a bad thing? Given Scott's history with Luc, wouldn't he be pleased about that?

I appreciate Scott's concern for Luc, but he went about it totally in the wrong way. I mean why have Josh do the Luc talk? Matt's and Josh's history is still blocking the road. Josh really made a mess of it.

The only conclusion Matt could come to was that Scott and Josh believes he would mess up anything of a romantic nature coming from Luc. Talk about being totally insensitive.

What a bunch of women! Managing your own relationship is hard enough without trying to manage others.

Another great Chapter Duncan. As always your writing is so moving.

Matt's predicament/emotions/self-contempt is just heartbreaking.

Just great to see him actually realizing his true worth and defending himself against Scott and Josh's well-placed but deeply flawed "fear" of Matt's "relationship" with Luc.

We are still with you. Keep on writing !!!!!

Duncan GREAT STORY I just today deicded to make a profile on here so that i could make a comment. I love the story and i was just saying to myself that the way the chapters were going that it could be a couple years before the end of the story is here, but for as good as this story is i'm in for the long haul until the end. Keep up the good writing, and the emotion in my comment is all joyous. Posted Image

Ah, Connor, such a sympathetic helpful soul. I bet all your friends come to you for advice on their love lives!!!

You're right, of course. Scott did know something about Matt's past. Josh told him. But he was relying on Brandon...and looking for a solution that would assuage his own guilt about Luc (See? Scott. Not perfect, lol.) Seeing Brandon with Stevie..and seeing Brandon appear to ignore Luc... now he's having doubts...

Josh did his best...but remember, Scott already had this same talk with Matt back when they first met... He asked Josh because it was something he had already tried..

Thanks everyone.

I'm half way through 17. I think my muse is back. I'll just tie him to the bedpost and make sure he stays!!!!

A Lovely chapter Duncan. I was waiting for Luc to reach out to someone, Matt being the logical choice, and I can't wait to see what develops

Is it my imagination or is Scott maybe a wee bit jealous of any budding romance between Luc and Matt? maybe I'm reading too much into it.

Anyway great chapter, keep it up and I for one can't wait for the next chapter to be posted.

Cheers

Hey.

I JUST finished 17 and sent it off to Gabriel to be proofed. And it may be late, but it's LONG...in fact a double length chapter... Hope that makes up for the time lag....

Hi Duncan -

That's great news. I really don't mind the wait. It means we will enjoy chapter 17 even more.

Of the 4 characters, Josh and Luc have so much in common, not only the storm within but also the one they always see through the window. That's, in a way, what makes Matt more "in tune" with Luc's feelings and surprisingly, Josh's too.

But we have so much in common with them as living, breathing humans. Not exactly the same, but the same insecurities and misreadings of others and their true motivations. Sometimes excessively hard on ourselves while giving ourselves a pass when we have not right to do so.

I find myself drawn to Matt maybe because he's far from perfect on his own accord and that makes him real. Josh was a victim; Luc was, for lack of a better word, collateral damage (nobody wanted to hurt him intentionally). Matt's problem, at the end, is his perception of himself, I don't like it when they link this with him having sex with lots of guys; he was just a young man living his sexuality. As long as he didn't hurt anybody including himself, then I see no problems there. His problems run deeper than that.

The problem is that frequent, quick and almost anonymous sex is fraught with emotional damage as we have seen in Duncan's stories. Sex makes some kind of emotional impact even when we kids ourselves that it doesn't. How can one know if there was hurt when sex has taken place before one has any clue about who the other person is?

Not to seem like an idiot or anything but, it's going on ONE year since the last post of this story. Is this story really going to get finished ? After this story now I don't like investiing time in new authors if there isn't a finished product. This story is the 2nd time i read a story and it got so far and then just stopped abruptly with no notice at all saying whether or not it was going to finish. I would be more understanding if there was a reason given for the ONE year delay, but since there's no reason then I just will keep the other comments what I was going to say.
