The Onion is actually a parody of the news world. It's suppose to be just a humorous collection of news stories that are just off the wall stupid. There's a book and even a movie set up as a news program following it. Seriously funny stuff in my opinion.

I can think of some awful teams for similar promotions: Houston Cougars, Michigan State Wolverines, Holy Cross Crusaders...

We had a running joke last season that hockey players who commit a penalty should have to sit in the box with the opposing team's mascot. It would give the Bruins a nice advantage when they play the Canadiens or Maple Leafs.
