Y_B Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) hey , Taylor Swift is still very popular, her lastest album had impressive first week sale if I remember correctly. True. But her saturation of entertainment media has clearly died down. There was a period of time when she appeared on SNL, did a camera commercial, had a biography done in a TV special all around the same time. Tickets to her concerts were talked about even across college campuses and every other song playing on the radio was "You Belong With Me", "Love Story" or something similar. That was about a year ago and I actually haven't heard her name in a while now. I think her performance at the 2010 VMAs marked the obviousness of her decline because during that performance was when most people I know who was her fan unanimously agreed that she's way past her prime. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a big fan of her's Edited May 6, 2011 by Yang Bang

Don't get me wrong, I'm still a big fan of her's hmm, I think this has more to do with active fans turning into passive fans, we've seen this many times. As the fresh factor of an new artist goes away, after 2 or 3 years, the noise kind of dies down and only the hard core fans are left, people who are neutral decide whether they buy the albums or not base on how good the songs are. What they talk about on a daily basis, are probably the new public figures that are popping out (Rebecca black etc...). Like you said. But the popularity is still there, it's just that they're not new anymore, Madonna is not mentioned on a daily basis by people, but she has clearly established fanbase, her tours are doing great. Same can be said with Celine's successful las vegas shows. I think the same is happening with Lady Gaga, when I was in my first year of University, that was 2009, we have had these frosh groups (orientation week groups), my group was p-p-p poker frosh, just when I was absorbing how popular this woman is, I look at the group standing behind us, it was called "Lady Gaga frosh". so yeah,... Now even Gaga does not have that power anymore, so I'd say the craziness has died down a bit for her, like it is with every other artist.
Y_B Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 Now even Gaga does not have that power anymore, so I'd say the craziness has died down a bit for her, like it is with every other artist. I wish that were more true. Every other song played on the radio here is still "Born This Way"

Rizan Posted May 6, 2011 Posted May 6, 2011 ITT Judas music video. It was premiered on E! News last night, along with an interview with Mother Monster herself. I think it was also played later on American Idol:
Pai-kun Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 She doesn't inspire me. I liked her a lot better when I had no idea who she(tbh I even thought she was as a man) was. I like her catchy songs, but she's making it really hard for me to like her when she's so over the top, fake and annoying.
Sir Galahad Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 Yes, she inspires me...and that's coming from someone that otherwise hates pop music, dance music, techno music, and all that other crap. It's really easy to look at the surface of her music or her videos and say "oh, she's just putting on a mask" or "it's just a shock factor" I follow her on twitter, facebook, and every other thing she's on, I've watched and continue to watch every Gagavision video, and I've gotten to really know my Mother Monster. I've watched her cry for the sole reason that she fears she's letting her fans down. To see her at the Monster Ball is amazing, you really see how much she cares for her fans. How much she went through to put on that show multiple nights in a row. How engaging she is with them (there is a reason her concerts have been rated some of the greatest ever). It's not "church baiting" though i can see how you could come to that conclusion when you don't actually listen to the song or try and understand it. She's taking a representation that many people recognize and using it as way of portraying a story. It's a common thing in not only music, but literature, art, tv, movies, really anything. It's not an attack on the church, it's the church getting their poor little panties in a bunch because God forbid anyone use their beliefs in any way other than complete and utter devotion. Also, the video was NOT released over the Easter holiday, it's being released this week. Nor does the timing of a stupid holiday matter at all if you ask me, especially considering the Pagans could easily bash the Catholics for just happening to put their precious holiday right around the same time as their Easter festivals. POT, MEET KETTLE. Will history remember Lady Gaga? Probably, for a while, just like it remembers Madonna, Cher, and others (personally, I don't like either of them). Eventually, just like everyone, she'll be forgotten. Anyone who is inspired by her will consider her an idol. Just like anyone who is inspired by John Legend will consider him an idol. It doesn't matter who inspires you, as long as you're inspired. And as long as Lady Gaga inspires people, even if others don't like her or don't care for her or aren't inspired by her, she's worth sticking around. At the end of the day, what do her personal motives matter? Who cares if she's just trying to get rich (which, she already is by the way, there's really no need for her to continue if that's all she wanted)? It doesn't matter because at the end of the day... ...SHE MAKES PEOPLE'S LIVES BETTER And that is enough for her to be an inspiration for me. I'm still curious, how exactly does she inspire you? I only ask because nothing you've said here or in other posts explains what she does to inspire you. I mean how does she make people's lives better? Does she give money to charity; engage in fundraising for the poor? In what way does she motivate you?
Kev de Cauchery Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 As a LITTLE MONSTER, I found it odd that I'm not inspired by her songs in any way creatively. I love her songs tho. That said, I seldom get inspired by songs, 'cept one that I can recall, 'Need You Now' by Lady Antebellum. However, I've always been inspired by her fashion looks and sense. And I have to say the meat dress was fabulous. But I know I'm weird in ways.
Dannsar Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Crivvens - I'm 'old' in GaGa terms. I mean, I remember Radio Ga Ga! The Lady version is nothing at all except a good manipulator of the shock value. However, as a virtual clone of Madonna (and I mean that in trope sense) she has absolutely nothing to inspire anybody, and she can't even be a more shocking Madonna to the extent that the original was! Some of the tunes are catchy (I hate to admit I will dance to them, but then I don't know who is who half the time). Nah, hee today, gone tomorrow ... though she might make the next day 1

It's not that hard for someone to inspire me. She makes a lot of Little Monsters lives better; she made my life better. I'm far more okay with who I am thanks to her. Yes, by the way, she's really big in gay rights. She was also part of the artists for Japan charity. There are probably more you could find through google or her wikipedia page. Her own personal ascension has inspired me, and she taught me to be who I am (as I already stated). Just a question though, since when do people need justification for their inspiration? methodwriter85 Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 I would have liked it if "Born this Way" had shown images of gay men getting married, gay men adopting kids, gay men in the military, gay men in professional sports, etc etc instead of just a bunch of dancers around her. If that was supposed to be some "gay anthem" for this generation, it seemed more like a gay anthem for the tweaker circuit boi culture of the late 90's/early 00's instead.
pabz Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 If "ARTISTS?" have to show their unshapely bodies to score "fame", regardless of how they "perform" I am so happy that my TV/Radio has an "OFF" button!!!

I mean, I agree sort of. I've never really considered it a gay anthem personally, not anymore than I consider Katy Perry's Fireworks a gay anthem, but stuff like that just isn't Gaga. I rather liked the little story she had in the video, it was a nice introduction to the song in my opinion.
Former Member Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) I have to say yes she inspires me. In a few of her songs she says "i'm a freak bitch" Well yes i am a freak, i'm embracing myself because "baby you were born this way". I so want to tattoo "Born this way" somewhere on myself. I'm even thinking of decorating my computer desk that my grandma gave me that belonged to her mother & my Grandpa's mother just for the fact that in born this way it says "in the glass of her boudior" and my desk has a huge mirror, put pictures up of my grandparents and such. I live in a super small town 3500, you wanna talk about gay people there's only like 10 that i know of, On good days i got my sunglass's on outside walking down the street Gaga playing in my ears a little dance to my step, just so i dont have to listen to the dumb people stop me on the street and the stupid little whispers, On my Electric scooter for my Helmet, it's red and my bike is red and i got this sexy black and red jacket, i wanna put GG somewhere on my bike and my helmet for "Garage Glamarous" because i'm always in leather and jeans. On Halloween i spray painted my hair that fake GAGA yellow gold, lets just say there was tons of glitter all over my bathroom, and i went out with Werewolf fangs, and then i'd switch to Vampire fangs, had on my grey skinny jeans,my huge red scarf and my black and red biker jacket, tons of fake blood on my neck and my arms. Later on in the year and my hair got longer,,, i went out and dyed it blues, greens. People talked alot of trash about my hair, and as it faded into other colors the more i loved it. She tells you to be yourself. I'm still super happy for Lady Maria from Winnipeg the girl in the youtube video who actually went to Toronto and played at the concert with GAGA. There's another boy too i've seen Greyson Chance around youtube playing Paparrazzi on the piano at a school talent show, now he has his own CD and such. Gaga at the Gay Rights thing on the white house lawn. That was Epic her screaming "Are you listening?". Some of her stuff is over the top, and some of it i find reverrberated from other songs of hers, But i love her cuz they are dancy upbeat songs, and well i like to "dance in the dark". Rizan Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 and well i like to "dance in the dark". God I love that song, haha. If anyone still wonders why she inspires me (or anyone for that matter), read Mattie's post.
Former Member Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 So last night on my tv i found the HBO MonsterBall tour which i was waiting and waiting for that was supposed to play today at 3pm, I stayed up till 4am watching the concert. Before the concert opens she's in the back crying to hair and make up that even though she's playing Madison Square garden she still sometime's feels like the highschool loser that people made her feel like in highschool, actual tears pouring out of her eyes. Before i went to bed i was like "Damn my crops are going to die" On farmville, then i remembered "oh i can grab those in the morning they're 12hrs to still live". So i have just finished my Farm. And what did the loading screen show me "GAGAVILLE!" Coming soon, It even had a sheep on a motorbike with a spikey helmet and leather jacket, Bunch of Crystalish follow the Glitter Road to the monster ball type background. I think that's totally Wicked! And i can't wait to get me some Gaga on my farm . So not only does Lady Gaga inspire me, but she also inspires the makers of Farmville
Sir Galahad Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I did. It's not that hard for someone to inspire me. She makes a lot of Little Monsters lives better; she made my life better. Just a question though, since when do people need justification for their inspiration? I never asked you to justify anything! lol You stated that she made people’s lives better and I was curious how she did that. I'm a natural sceptic, and in this case I still am. BUT, each to their own I guess; the world would be very boring if everyone’s mind-set was wired the same way. 1
MarkSen Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) Does Lady Gaga inspire me? In what way? As a musician/public figure? Not really. Her music videos are sometimes very inappropriate, unnecessary and just plain ... otherworldly. Some of her songs are catchy and have solid beats, but that's it. And don't get me started on the content of some her more recent songs. They're, simply put, quite unoriginal. As someone who fights for what she believes in? Yes. Lady Gaga doesn't care if supporting gay rights would draw fire towards her from very conservative or homophobic groups. She fights for what she believes in and is loyal to her fans, and that's why she inspires me. Edited May 14, 2011 by MarkSen 1
Phoenix1977 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Kinda like the music but I would never buy an album (although my boyfriend considers himself a "Little Monster"). But inspiring? Not really. Love the way she tries to advance the gay rights issues, though.
AFriendlyFace Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 I wouldn't say she inspires me per se, but I do believe she's a committed and fairly powerful force for gay rights and tolerance and that alone earns her quite a few points in my book. I'll probably buy her new CD, just to support her, even though from what I can tell so far I don't think I'll like it nearly as much as her previous work. She has a pretty good accumulation of good will with me though so I'll get behind her latest effort. "Born This Way" and "Judas" aren't really among my favourites nor do I hate them, but her previous CD rocked and I do think she's good for the gays, so I'll support....her next album had better rock nail it though
