Interesting tradition and history.  

And a moveable feast, due to it being connected with Easter.

I see it's also celebrated in the Faroe Islands, where it is called Dýri biðidagur, and in Greenland (Greenlandic Tussiarfissuaq).

Thanks  Were you able to find an explanation in English or did you have to resort to translating Danish ? I didn't know about Færøerne and Grønland. I wonder if Iceland also has the tradition.

Yeah, and actually the Wiki page says it was FORMERLY observed by Norway and Iceland, so I guess they got rid of it when they became free. I'd love to see a SATW comic about this, with Finland and Sweden being all   over the varme hveder discussion.

Google just translates it to "over the hot wheat" (or alternatively "over the hot wheat buns")

Few years?!? That photo was taken on Val's last birthday. That's why she's wearin' a tiara. Plus, the 18 yearold body she's talkin' about belongs to some poor kid who was jogging past her house that morning. She tased him and dragged him into the house singin' "Happy Birthday to Me!".
