And, in other news, I finally got the oil-fired central heating in my new (old) house inspected today. Turns out the boiler is banjaxed (that's an Irishism, meaning, in this case, that it's broken). The plumber told me he could order parts for it and hope to get it working again, but that the cost of the parts alone would be almost as much as buying a replacement boiler. So that's the plan. He hopes to do it this Saturday. Boiler around €250. Hopefully labour charge won't double that.

And this plumber reminds me of just how long I have been living around these parts. I remember his dad, back in Easter 1987, telling me the wife was expecting a baby in a few weeks. Who'd a thought that baby would now be my plumber?   

(Or should I call him my central heating technician?)

So, simply replacing the parts is marginally cheaper than replacing the whole boiler? Why not go the extra mile and just replace the boiler? That way, you wouldn't have to worry about potential breakdowns in the future. That's how I understand it, anyway.

The actual visit went well though I waited 90 minutes beyond my appointment time. As a result I didn't get the breakfast I was looking forward to but rather an early lunch. Lunch was tasty. An Italian roast pork sandwich with a salad of roasted brussel sprouts, dried cranberries tossed with mixed autumn greens. Then a quick stop to pick up Christmas prezzies for my steppies before back to the clinic for a demo of a new device intended to treat migraine pain. Unfortunately, the rep doing the demo was 45 minutes late and only arrived at the time I needed to leave to catch my train home. The extended time at the clinic prevented my being able to do a couple of other things like buying a fresh cannoli to bring home for mum. So while the doc is pleased that I am seeing some improvement in the intensity of the migraines I was frustrated by the waste of time.

This evening I am making homemade applesauce from Bramley apples.

I intend bottling (canning) it in screw top Kilner jars (I think the common variant is Mason jars across the Pond) to give to some friends for the Christmas.

Wish me luck. I've ever tried this before.

Luck. I occasionally find Kilner brand jars available here. Mum and my stepdad used to make homemade applesauce.

I grew up on 4.5 acres of apple trees, I have eaten apples in every format there is. And a another reason why I am not a big fan of them🍎😲

Glad you're seeing some improvement, but sorry it was such a long day.
