The ones I transplanted from pots haven't produced much this year but, once they've settled in, they should hopefully do really well next year. There's a patch of wild strawberries that have been reasonably productive, though; and there's more in the abandoned garden next door. Not enough to make jam, but plenty enough to add to my breakfast cereal or porridge each morning for the past month or so. They're rapidly coming to the end of their season now; but the wild blackberries should start to ripen around the middle or end of August. 2 5

Death Valley was given its forbidding name by a group of pioneers lost here in the winter of 1849-1850. Even though, as far as we know, only one of the group died here, they all assumed that this valley would be their grave. Expect high temperatures of 110°F to 120°F+ (43°C to 49°C+). Drink plenty of water and carry extra. Avoid hiking (after 10 am). Travel prepared to survive. In the case of a heat related illness, get to a cool place and seek help as soon as possible. Bad water is call that because The water comes from a spring. It is called 'Badwater' because people cannot drink the water. This is because so much salt has built up from the basin. So dramatic with names... Explorers looking for fresh water were disappointed to find yet another sake lake. They called it Lake Disappointment... 6

They kept squabbling... one kept chasing the other away when it got too close, but they mostly kept on eating. I see turkeys most days... they like the left over grain on the ground I feed the horse, but they also like whatever is in my lawn. 5 1 1

My dad called the other day and mentioned that a turkey has been roosting in a poplar tree in the backyard recently. Not every night, but on-and-off, for the past couple of weeks. 5

Popular Post dughlas Posted July 21, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 21, 2020 G'day y'all. Today is far more moderate than the past couple. It is 90/32° with just 48% humidity making it feel like 92/33°. Had a busy earlier part of the day. The pup and I were at the park for our morning walk by 5:45am. Together we walked a bit over 2 miles then Thistle gets a drink and a rest in the car while I speed walk another mile. Walking here is very different than in SC. There it's flat here we walk up and down low hills. The first two miles with Thistle takes between 45 and 50 minutes the last mile alone takes ~17 minutes. I'm pleased with that. I lost 20 pounds this past spring and have a goal of losing another 10-15 before I head south again in mid-October. After our walk we came home and I showered before heading to a large nearby farmer's market. There I can by meat directly from a local butcher plus fresh fruit, veggies and baked goods from any numbers of local growers. I noticed a number of other vendors selling a variety of flea market type items, costume jewelry, face masks, tee shirts, etc. in spaces that were occupied by produce vendors when I was last there in November. A few stands had signs noting they were closed temporarily due to owners concerns over COVID. After returning home from there I made an early lunch of tuna melt on half of a pumpernickel bagel and salad before taking Thistle to a noon grooming appointment. He got his usual summer trim and a bath. He looks adorable. Got home from that about 2pm and have been sitting in the shade relaxing since. I'm pondering what to have for dinner. Thinking Southwestern chicken burger sliders and fresh corn on the cob. I want something simple as my head has gone achy. 2 6

My excuse this time is that I had two volunteers round for most of the day, helping me strip wallpaper from the front bedroom. Their mum's just picked them up, so now I must think about what to have for dinner... 6 1
