Our region has been placed on a red alert for heatwave since Friday evening and it's been extended until Monday 4PM 🥵🥵🥵 The temps are still in the low 20°C at night! I honestly don't think I could stand that sort of weather. Apparently, they're having a heatwave in England as well. A nephew who lives in Manchester tells me the weather there has been as high as 30°C/86°F and extremely humid. He says it's even hotter in the south of England. I'm just glad Ireland isn't suffering such extremes. 7

I remember myself and my the best friend at the time getting caught out in a summer downpour one day, and singing it to each other as we sat in a shelter in the park waiting for it to stop raining. A bittersweet memory in a way. I was about to head off to university, and he wasn't. We'd effectively been each other's shadow for around six years, and we both knew the closeness between us would be ending when the summer holiday did. We saw each other occasionally over the next few years, but he unfortunately died in a house fire whilst working in the Middle East in the early 1970s. I this because you have cherished memories of a best friendship. 6

It's 87/31° here but the humidity makes it seem like 91/33°. Hotter weather is in the forecast. Had COVID not happened, today would have been opening day for the 2020 faire season. We were at the shop to clean and prep for opening in four weeks. Unfortunately I couldn't stay long. Migraine flared again. So home again and sitting under the tree with Thistle. The Faire is permitted to operate at 25% capacity. The site is rated with a capacity of 16,000. That means somewhere between 3,500 and 4,000 guests each day. The number varies depending on whether the cast, indepentent acts, faire staff and vendors count as part of the 25% occupancy. The professional cast is only 10 people and there are no amateur cast members so no interaction on the streets and limited staged shows featuring cast members. Guests must wear masks except when eating and drinking. Eating and drinking are only permitted in designated areas. No one not wearing a mask will be allowed to enter the shop period. People entering the shop will be encouraged to shop with their eyes not their hands. Anything people try on or touch will need to be taken to the backroom and sanitized. Guys can try on kilts but shop staff will put it on and remove it to limit patrons touching them. Only a limited number of kilts will be on the rack. Extra stock will remain in the backroom. Will not be putting clothing displays up outside the shop, again to discourage excess touching. The shop will not be selling knits hats/caps scarves, hoods, etc. Stock will consist of kilts, shirts, doublets, kilt socks and outerwear (cloaks and capes). There will be none of the dress up just for fun that was done in the past. That means most everything I did that made the job enjoyable. I'm glad I don't plan on working in the shop during the day. My boss envisions the Faire opening and closing again two weeks later. That's what happened at one popular nearby amusment park. 1 7
