Popular Post Marty Posted August 24, 2020 Popular Post Posted August 24, 2020 (edited) I mentioned earlier that Met Éireann had issued a Satus Yellow rainfall warning for tomorrow. They have now upgraded that to Status Orange for certain parts of the country, including my county. Spoiler MET ÉIREANN HAS issued a Status Orange rainfall warning for 12 counties, after earlier issuing a Status Yellow rainfall warning for the whole country. The new period of wet weather – dubbed Storm Francis – will bring “intense rainfall” tonight and into tomorrow, the forecaster said. Valid from 9pm tonight until 5pm tomorrow, the Status Orange warning applies to all counties in Connacht, and also Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Waterford, Wexford, Cork and Kerry. In these counties, accumulations of 40 to 60mm are expected – which may be higher again in some mountainous areas. “The most intense rainfall is expected to ease off in southern counties during Tuesday morning,” Met Éireann said. “Some flash flooding likely. “This rainfall will further elevate river levels and may result in river flooding also.” That warning kicks in at 6am and will remain valid until 7pm tomorrow. Met Éireann has warned “very windy or stormy conditions are expected” tomorrow as Storm Francis crosses the country. Southwest winds are due to reach mean speeds of 55 to 65km/h, with widespread gusts of 90 to 110km/h. Source: https://www.thejournal.ie/ireland-weather-met-eireann-status-yellow-warning-5184166-Aug2020/ Furthermore, The National Directorate of Fire and Emergency Management (NDFEM) Crisis Management Team met this morning to assess the updated forecast regarding the storm. In a statement this afternoon, it warned that trees are in full leaf, with the potential for a number of trees to fall, blocking roads and damaging power lines. NDFEM issued the following safety messages this afternoon: This is an unusual storm for August – people should take account of Met Éireann weather warnings affecting their location. People are on holidays at coastal locations. Stay away from all coastal areas for the duration of the warnings. All road users should be aware of the hazardous travelling conditions. Motorists should slow down and be aware of the dangers of fallen trees and debris. High sided vehicles are particularly vulnerable during this time. As conditions will vary, people need to take account of the local conditions and advice from their local authority. And ESB Networks ((Ireland's Electricity Supply Network) say they are "preparing for power outages, with staff on standby to repair faults in all areas." ------ Looks like no gardening tomorrow. So I shall try to get on with jobs in the house. Edited August 24, 2020 by Marty Tidying up 3 3 1

Site Administrator Popular Post Valkyrie Posted August 25, 2020 Site Administrator Popular Post Posted August 25, 2020 Joker had a follow up visit with the vet today. He had x-rays taken to see if there were any abnormalities in his digestive tract. Thankfully, all structures appear normal... he was just severely constipated. Poor kitty has been having chronic issues with constipation and vomiting. So he got an enema and I can't imagine he's still constipated after the massive load he unleashed. He's getting Miralax daily and I'll make some dietary changes for them too. I'm researching higher fiber foods, which the vet recommended. She gave me a link for prescription food, but it's prohibitively expensive. Although I'll get it if there are no viable, cheaper alternatives. 2 2 3

At least constipation is not something he can't "unleash" regularly and now that you know you can monitor it. The kidneys can be very problematic for cats as most times it's too late when notice. A couple of years ago we had to change kibbles brand as our oldest cat would puke almost every day and it seemed like they were not even digested. We switched for Pertect Fit special old cat with sensitive stomach and since then she only puke when she needs to purge herself and eat grass at the neighbor's - which is totally normal. Hugs to you 3 6 1

Hugs to you 3 Thanks, Clo His bloodwork was normal, thank goodness. I was pretty worried about the constipation though. I had a cat once who was having a difficult time pooing... to the point I took him to the emergency vet. It turned out he had lost motility in his bowel and was unable to eliminate them. After that, his systems shut down one by one until he went into liver failure and there was nothing we could do except let him go peacefully. I think he was 16 or 17. So I'm relieved Joker's condition is treatable. 3 3 1 1

Glad to hear he's structurally sound and hope the dietary steps resolve his issues. He was actually really good for the vet, although no doubt he would have preferred to avoid the whole experience. They were able to get the x-rays completed without sedating him. The worst part of the vet visit for everyone is getting him into the carrier. I'm so thankful for this mobile service because they make the process so much less stressful on all of us. I locked Joker in the bathroom and the vet was able to go in and get him into the carrier with much more ease than I ever could. 5

They're starting back at school next week, for the first time since Covid forced the Government to close the schools back on 12th March. As much as I have enjoyed having them come down (especially because their presence actually motivates me to get on with the jobs that need doing in, and on, the house), I would hate that the reason for them coming down might be because the Government is forced to close the schools again because of spikes in the pandemic. As much as neither of them is really looking forward to heading back to school after a five and a half month enforced break, they both accept that they need to get back for the sake of their futures. The older one is about to start the final year of high school, and the younger one his penultimate year. 4 1

Popular Post clochette Posted August 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted August 25, 2020 Made 5 jars of jelly this afternoon, a mix of berries: 56% raspberries, 30,6% redcurrants, 10% strawberries and 6,4% blueberries (the only store bought product I had bought to decorate my brother's birthday cake, the rest was from our garden). After that I played in the rise bed for a bit. I transferred the chive in there, strawberry plants from a planters to a rise one, sow some radishes and cut some not useful vines from the watermelon plant and surprise the second plant I had abandoned in a corner has a little fruit the size of a golf ball! 2 4 1
