[dkstories] Let's do it Chapter 1

Recommended Posts

OH... MY... GOD!!! :great:

What a way to start the new year!!! :2thumbs:

This is just... great!

(I think this is the right place to post about LDI, since DIR also was posted here...)

And, I guess it's a bit of a challenge to revisit for the fourth time a plot without being repetitive, but if you can see a good day from it's morning... well... I guess you nailed it again...

By the way, I like the fact that the timelines have been reset, and this time Brian is the one who is sent back... This sets up for an unlimited number of wild guessings about the story plot...

What a pleasant comeback!

I take the opportunity here to wish everybody a happy 2007!

Now, it's time to go back to :read: ...

Wow, just wow!

I thought, that I had enough of DO, but this beginning of a new sequel made me change my mind. Definitely.

I'd relatively soon figured out, that it isn't told from Davey's perspective, because Dan avoided naming the actor.

I don't have much more to say right now, but thanks Dan, for this reading pleasure.

Wow! Thank you Dan!!!!!!

I didn';t pick up on this being from Brian's perspective until his Dad called him by name! Good one!!

The fact that the prior timelines were wiped out is great: it removes a lot of repitition, and opens up infinite possibilities.

I can't wait to seee where this goes! :2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:

I also wonder what it is about Davey that Brian picked up on??

OMG!!! Thanks Danny! (i literally accidentally just typed daddy :o )

anyways... OMGGGGG im excited...

I cant wait for more!!!!

Hmm... did Brian get sent back to a time before or after he impregnated his girlfriend?

This is great! I think it looks like he went back possibly after messing around with her, but since he lived a life with David, he already knows that she was a bitch that got him to marry her for having gotten pregnant with a child that wasn't even his.

My opinion:

Don't think he will fall into the same trap this time. His heart is already set on his target, and it's not her.

Hmm... did Brian get sent back to a time before or after he impregnated his girlfriend? Would really put a hell of a damper on Brians plans if this Missy girl is already pregnant by him.

If you go back and read the original Do Over, you'll discover, somewhere around Chapter 3, that Brian's girlfriend was actiually knocked up by somebody else, and isn't carrying Brian's child. In Timeline zero, Brian married her out of loyalty, not fatherhood.

I'm really pleased to see this new story. While Dan is good at writing political intrigue and military adventure, he's a real master of interpersonal relationships (which is why "Bully" may be my current favorite of all of his writings). This tale offers a real writer's challenge: we all sort of know the main characters and some of the problems they need to dodge (such as Sean's ultra-homophobic parents and Davey's dysfunctional family), as well as some of the strengths they can rely on (such as the Breckenridge's acceptance of alternate sexual orientations, or the existence of Mary Lou Hacker). Dan gets to thread Brian's seduction of Davey through a slalom of known obstacles, and while we're familiar with parts of the course, the trail is Dan's to blaze. I for one am looking forward to the trip.

The Brian he's "taken over for" sounds like he's got some real problems that Brian now gets to deal with.

It will be interesting to see a Davey we have never seen: as a true Teen, not mentally old. Can't wait to see what he is like. I suspect that Missy will be playing a big role in the next few chapters, as Brian seeks a way to dump her.

This looks like a wild ride!

Thanks :worship: thanks :great: thanks :music:

how time goes !!! 50 years later, its a real pleasure to meet Sean, Brian, Trevor, Brandon and last but not least Davey again.

and I also agree with Riegel : "While Dan is extremely(this is from me!) good at writing political intrigue and military adventure, he's a real master of interpersonal relationships (which is why "Bully" may be my current favorite of all of his writings)".

BTW, the posting "strike" was very successful  Dan, apparently, you had really time to write a lot of huge chapters !

This is an excellent SURPRISE for me. :worship: for ALL of use here who love Davey & Brian. when I read that DIR was the end of D&B, I accepted that. I never thought that it was the beginning of Brian & Davey :2thumbs: Thanks Dan. I always wanna know how the world through Brian's eyes. At first I thought that there was a mistake & Davey went into brian's body  But NOOOO! Its great. So I guess I'll stay around & see what comes up next. especially with that bitch Missy who ensnared the original brian

Cheers & be well,

Rad. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

All in all, u know from my weird pms ect that I am a big fan, so dont take it like im complaining, I am siked, but I feel also a funny sense of dread wondering wot will happen to Garrett when you get caught up in LDI! (that being said, go ahead and please get caught up in it :P )

Um, all 40 chapters of Dreams of Humanity have been written....(It was finished back in December or early November and I mentioned that then. They're still being edited, but they are written.)

P.S. Why do I bother putting info like that in my blogs when it does no good? (nope not a good day, work is really hectic and I don't know why I bother trying to keep people updated if they can't bother to take the time to check my blog before complaining/worrying about a story not being finished. Nope, the above message isn't the only one I got today and I'm an inch away from telling people I'll only be sharing new stories with a few select individuals and everyone else can go find something else to read. There's a decent way to ask if a story will be finished and those rarely get on my nerves, but what I've gotten today really isn't the way to go about it at all, especially when I've already mentioned in at least THREE DIFFERENT BLOG ENTRIES THAT DREAMS OF HUMANITY IS FINISHED.

Yeah, I'm slightly agitated tonight.

P.P.S. I took 53 seconds and perused my blog entries. In the first page of entries dating back to around the 10th of December, I counted at least three references to the fact that Dreams was finished. Talk about pissed, if I could find it in less than a minute, I'd expect people to be able to spend five minutes and find at least ONE darn reference to Dreams being finished. It's in the SECOND ENTRY, the one titled Surprise, Surprise, Surprise. I even tell you when they're going to be posted (and yes I'm not going to throw a hissy fit because of three people and not post them this friday like I planned. Whether I post just one, or the two I was considering is up in the air, but I do plan on at least posting one).

OK, I'm taking up a collection to hire a 'social secretary' for DK. Someone who can gather all emails, PMs and forum posts into one nice, neat little pile after removing the ones that will send Dan into a rage and provoke him to slash and burn his way through posts and end stories prematurely out of frustration. Someone who can take dictation so DK tell can just tell his stories and not have to worry about typing them (imagine how much that could improve throughput ;) ). I choose our old buddy Chris to manage the fund :chris: whadaya say? Any takers?

Imagine my surprise when I stopped by to check to see if there was anything new and saw this new button up.

I thought "No, it couldn't be"

But it was!

Wow Dan you have done it again and brought us back to such a wonderful universe that I never thought to see again.

Not only that but you have done it in a way that makes it new and exciting not to mention completely different, yet still familiar at the same time.

I've already got my editor drooling over the news about it, you'd think it was Christmas day again and he was getting a present.

Then again I suppose we all are, a terrific one at that.

Wonderful job with it

Thank you

This message is addressed specifically to JesseHotty.

I don't think you were intending to provoke the reaction that happened in the forum, and in reality you didn't. Rather it was a few e-mails I'd gotten at around the same time that really set me off, so I'm sorry if it felt like my anger was directed at you specifically, or if it caused any problems from other people (as has a tendency to happen from time to time).

Please, though, take a few minutes and look through the blog entries, because I talk a lot there about the status of my stories, which are completed, which are getting good progress and so forth. For instance, in a little bit, Bully fans are going to get an update in my blog about what's happening with that story. Yes, there are non-story related items there, political posts, etc., but my blog is where you're going to find a lot of my story status discussions.

Thanks and hope you enjoy!

Holy Sh*t!!! :lmao:

Dan, you SOB, why'd you have to f**k up the wonderful ending to the Do Over Trilogy. Not that a dirty bomb in Washington was a good thing, but it appears that we would have had decades of peace to look forward to, thanks to the insightful leadership of David Jones Sr. Now we're stuck with W's second term and with David Jones as a sex offender and out of the picture as far as politics are concerned, it looks like Iran is on the way to becoming a nuclear superpower. Thanks a lot!

Seriously, I was checking out the latest Bully chapter when I noticed the Let's Do It button. The Do Over series is definitely one of my all-time favs and it's good to see a continuation, even if it will be a challenging one. Brian has a tough road ahead of him, but hopefully his 80 years of experience will make a difference. First up, I think he needs to repair his relationship with his parents - this comes even before Davey. It might be a good idea for him to come clean with his folks about the whole time travel thing, saving himself the need to be careful about what he says around them. Alternatively, he has a great excuse for the bad choices he's made over the last 4 years, and one he can use to gain his parent's trust instantly - he can come out to them. Telling them he's gay will explain everything and he'll gain their support. But what to do about his girlfriend . . .

I'm going to really go out on a limb and make a prediction - we'll be hearing from a time-traveling Shawn again. I know there was only enough juice to send one person back some 60 years, but I think Shawn will find a way. Perhaps he'll go back to 2004 and find a way to get through Brandon's jamming signal. Or perhaps he'll go back only 20 years or so, assuming he's still alive then in our time line, and build another do-over machine. Either way, I think Brian will eventually have some help, but probably not for a while.

Great to see anther sequel - good going, Dan!

OK, I've been giving LDI more thought and I just had to write a bit more about it. I think Brian is already a bit off-track in terms of fixing the time line. Sure, it will be years before anything has to be done to alter history, but not nearly as far in the future as he seems to think. The dirty bomb that kills millions (actually, dirty bombs at most kill thousands, but they make a lot of people ill, cause a fair bit of cancer down the road and most importantly, create panic) in Washington was already erased when the timelines were reset. Whatever the events were that led up to the dirty bomb, they never happened. The US never experienced 30 years of peace, thanks to President Jones. The war on terror is still going on in 2036 and the US is being held hostage by what is likely a nuclear Iran. That is the direct result of President Bush winning another 4 years in office and whatever came after that. This is our timeline! This is what Dan is saying will happen if history isn't changed. Brian cannot afford to wait 40 years - he has at most 18 years to make things right, and much more likely 14 years or less, so he needs to get hopping.

The single most effective strategy to fix the future - our future - is to prevent the Bush presidency from ever happening in the first place. Without a David Jones Sr. to counter Bush, the person who could do the most good would be Al Gore. Brian might not be able to prevent 9/11, but it wouldn't take much to swing the 2000 election. It already happened before in 2 of the alternate timelines (see my discussion on counting timelines, which I will post separately). When Davey went back in the first Do Over, both before and after Sheverdnazi went back, Gore won. Davey and Brian's gay activism and their effective undermining of some aspects of the religious right was all it took to make the difference.

This time around, things will be much more difficult. Neither Brian nor Davey are in anything close to the position they were in in the first Do Over. They are both doing poorly academically, and Davey's father is a convicted sexual preditor. I think that Brian's fist step should be to come out to his parents. He knows they will be understanding, and it will provide the perfect excuse for his bad behavior over the prior 4 years. This will go a long way toward repairing his relationship with them. He should next come out to Brandon and Trevor. He also knows that they'll be supportive and Brandon will likely come out to him as well. Since Brandon and Davey have presumably been having sex, it also provides a potential avenue for him to reach Davey. They'll still have the same chemistry, and Davey won't be able to help but fall in love with Brian again in spite of the differences this time around. It may be rough going at first, but Davey will come around. Once he earns Davey's trust, he can then tell him about the future and they can plot out what they must do to get the education they'll need to change the world. :king:

I just have mixed feeling about the new story. Part of me want to read some new story about Brian and Davey while part of me don't want to see it happen.

The previous time line has already end in a perfect way. Brian and Davey have found their love and have their children. Davey has gain the acceptance from his parents and relatives (especially his father) that he mostly wanted which he cannot archived from his previous timeline. He's mother and sister live in a peaceful life (I don't know become the whether it counts president's family). He's got Jermey and Sean as his brothers He's Dad has been transfered from a terrorible person to someone worth to respect and love.

Having erase all of these and come back to the original one...Their family has already lost many thing and Davey could hardly change them to a better result..and seeing Davey switch back to the young man full of bitterness, self-destructive, lack of confidence and thinking about the fate of his family in the original timeline (which is now the story reside) just make me feel very sad... :(

You've stated this perfectly. I feel exactly the same way. Things couldn't have ended better than they did in DIR, so as much as I'd like to see the story continue, it's hard to imagine being as satisfied in the end. In fact, most of the things you mention from DIR are impossible now. His father is a convicted child molester and could never enter politics. Jenny was molested and will have psychological problems no matter what. His cousin who was molested in the original time line will be much worse off. I can't help but feeling that this story will be another DOR - just one bad outcome after another.

In my earlier posts I suggested that Shawn might still be able to come back in a roundabout way to fix things, but there is another possibility I just thought of. Presumably the mad scientist is still around in this timeline and he will still build a time machine with Shevardnazi's backing. I guess we're to assume that his experiments will fail this time due to the jamming signal from Shawn and Brandon in the future. If things don't work out well in LDI, Brian could always contact the Shawn of the original time line and explain to him what will happen. Shawn might then be able to figure out a way around the jamming so that the time machine still works. Of course they'd have to deal with Shevardnazi, but it would be another chance to try to get back to something closer to what happened in DIR, minus the dirty bomb in 2056.

Thanks for the post, PeacefulNight and welcome to DK's forum. I'm always delighted to see first-timers post here. DK's writing seems to provoke that for some reason. ^_^

As for LDI, I can safely say that Dan tried to ignore him but Brian just would NOT stand for that and so we have LDI unfolding now and time will tell if we have 'another DOR' or 'DIR' or something altogether different. After reading DK for so many years, I'm betting on the last one. I hope you decide to stick around and find out!

Thanks EMoe57. DK's story is really breath-taking and I can't stop reading the DO triliogy during the night. However, I'm extremely tired when I'm back to office. Though I won't blame DK for that :P

It is just my guess...I think the story may become less "fantasy" and towards more realistic and darker approach. Brian may have to deal with the inner demon of Davey and his family in order to pursue his love for Davey....Poor Davey and Brian...I just hope that they don't need to overwrite their life, (or their children/grandchildren, if they are still allowed in the original timeline) and their love over and over again...
