People like sex, so they indulge in whatever way is available at the moment. If they don't have something to watch on a screen, or somebody to share with personally, then they play it out in their imagination. Pretty basic stuff, and just a human thing. I would say anyone who doesn't have this basic interest is probably defective in some way. I hope that defect doesn't spread, I like people who like sex.

politics Health Care Is an Awesome Thing!
C J commented on Thorn Wilde's blog entry in The Fantastic Mr. Wilde
I know most people will deny what I say, but the sad fact is that healthcare isn't that advanced, and the number of sick people is increasing, not decreasing. An advanced healthcare system would be reducing numbers of sick people. There's a fundamental problem with people's view of what healthcare consists of. In America, and probably in other countrys, healthcare is seen as involving doctors, drugs and surgeries. I am awed at this concept. It's the reason why people spend so much on it. There is no way, as Thorne would like it to be, that anyone is going to spend their time helping the sick and not be compensated for it. It's going to cost no matter how you do it. Out of pocket or taxes. Nothing can ever be free when it requires time and work from others. Anyway, the biggest mystery for me is people's unquestioning dependence on doctors and hospitals for their health needs. If your health is important to you, why would you turn over it's maintenance to someone else? People do the same thing with money. Nobody ever got rich letting a financial manager take care of their money, and I don't know anyone who was cured by doctors or drugs. I know lots of people who are managing their illness with doctors and drugs, and they will likely be doing that until the day they die. The benefits are two as far as I can tell. One, they have less severe symptoms because of their drug therapy. Two, they don't have to take personal responsibility for their illness, the doctor is doing that for them. That's another reason healthcare as we know it is so expensive. Doctors need extremely expensive insurance to protect themselves from financial ruin when soemone sues them for making some kind of mistake that harms them. Heathcare, in reality, involves personal choices, and a proactive attitude about maintaining your own health. People need to learn for themselves what it takes to maintain good health, and doctors generally don't know the answer to that themselves. The few who do are out of the mainstream. Almost every illness people suffer from is the result of poor choices and improper lifestyles. Eating anything that tastes good and giving no thought to it's effects on your body is about as irresponsible as it gets. Sitting in front of the TV drinking pop and eating chips is going to harm your overall health. Your body has needs that no doctor or hospital can provide. It needs good food, not food that simply tastes good. It needs exercise, not a comfortable chair and a picture to stare at. It needs to have it's control center (aka brain) exercised as well, instead of being occupied with the sounds of a movie or whatever music you want to hear. Your body has needs, and only you can provide them. No body else can do it. Drugs can't, doctors can't, the government can't, your insurance company can't. All those things can do is make it a little easier to live with whatever illness you might have, and there's no guarantee that they will even do that. There are, I'm sure, a few exceptions to what I say, but they are very few. It's a matter of choice. You either learn how to maintain your health yourself, or you get sick and spend your life and your money hoping doctors will do it for you. That's two choices, and there's no way around it. -
I really can't give any parenting suggestions since I don't know much about that subject, but I do know blocking a website isn't going to stop a boy from finding porn if he wants to. I don't think that's what your dealing with though. I have the impression that your boy isn't all that intensely interested in seeing porn, and it seems that you and him are close enough that he will let you in on what he's up to. I think he's probably more interested in what you think about this stuff than he is in the stuff itself. I'm making a guess based on your post, but I bet it's a pretty good guess. I'm also basing this guess from my own experience as a son who values my Dad's views. At the same time, there were things I did just because I wanted to know about them. Some were good and some weren't so good, but it all worked out. In short, a caring Dad has a lot of power to influence his son, even if he isn't totally aware of it. I think your that kind of Dad.

What were they thinking!

I don't like rednecks much either, they're too liberal and think everyone owes them something. It's time they start paying their own bills and stop mooching off the taxpayers. -
I think making this all out to be a gay thing is silly. People seem to want to compare themselves to other people whether they're gay or not. It all goes back to the idea of wanting to belong, to be accepted, to be a part of the crowd. Personally, I think it's a tragedy that anyone would allow others to set standards for them, regardless of the subject. Gay people should be the first to agree with that considering all the talk about gay marriage and all that. People seem to be scared to death to look like or even be anything that others don't approve of. That's a very scary idea to me. It scares me to think of being something manufactured to meet someone else's standards. Unfortunately, that puts me in conflict with a lot of other people. Not only do I refuse to conform, I tend to be outspoken when I'm confronted with someone who, in most things, functions on that level. The thing is, I believe the world would be immensely more interesting and pleasant if people would allow themselves to be themselves. The way it is, the world tends to be kind of drab and monochromatic in so many ways. I know I'm not totally independent socially, and that's probably a good thing. There have to be some established norms if we are all going to get along. Those need to be limited though, because there's nothing worse than to live in a world that's mostly black and white.

When people aren't active in their government's business this is the kind of stuff that eventually happens. Look at the feds. They now only enforce laws they want to enforce and ignore the ones they don't like. Yet they keep telling us that this is a country of laws. The supreme law is the Constitution, yet thay ignore that and pass laws to suit their own wishes. It's only going to get worse as people refuse to get involved. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who lives in this country has a responsibility to get involved. Otherwise they are going to lose them. Most people have probably heard that freedom isn't free, and that statement doesn't refer exclusively to the military services. Citizens need to accept the burden of maintaining the country politically too. It's part of the price and there isn't any substitute for it. The alternative is tyranny, and those who choose to ignore these facts are not patriots, nor are they deserving of the benefits of a free society. -
It was all about promoting a lubricant. When they do something similar to promote something more mainstream, like buying a car or a house (or maybe even pizza), then I'll be impressed. As for it's vaue to the people selling gun oil, I suppose it's flying off the shelves at lightning speed. Sometimes I just have two views on stuff like this, and it makes it hard to be objective, if being objective is even possible with something like this.

If you followed this you would have known that this was originally two stalls, and the divider was removed as you can see if you look closely. The toilets were later removed as well, because they decided to make this space into a storage area for some athletes equipment.

Humans imagine things, they devise social norms (for different reasons), they make decisions about everything based on what they perceive to be right and wrong. Looking at behavior from a evolutionary point of view leaves out a lot of things that are way more important. Even dogs aren't subject to one nature. I think the attempt to totally understand any animal's behavior takes a lot more time and effort than anyone has time for. The best anyone can really do is work to understand themselves, and that's probably the one thing that humans have very little talent for.

Gun Oil personal lubricant? I just can't get myself to comment on this one.

If you follow a crowd, you follow their customs. There are too many crowds, and not enough individuals.

Don't you mean chocolate chip and marshmallow? I think the only alternative to the airhead pop star is the bonehead pop star. Hey, the recipe will never change much if the same 5 people keep making them!

Even if I don't much care for his singing, I wouldn't mind seeing him in a collar and no loin cloth. Maybe some chains too in case he tried to escape.

OK, well I'm still thinking the diaper thing would be good, or maybe a skirt, and some stilettos. Since he was DUI they could throw in some lipstick. Then make him go to the mall and give out pics of himself and sign them.

Well, so he never learned stuff he needs to know, and he doesn't know about reality. I suppose then it would be better to just tell him don't do it any more and send him home. I suppose he can be excused because he's been misguided by others. Maybe he should get sent to Colorado with a six pack and some pills. That should take care of his problems. Forcing some responsibility on him would be so unfair!

Don't most of these people end up crazy and going in and out of jail? I don't get it. What's the thing with getting famous that makes people turn into idiots? It must be because they get all the creepers after them looking to make some easy money. Then they turn them into freaks and the next thing you know they're doing the most stupid stuff they can think of. I think maybe the court should give him probation, on the condition that any time he goes outside his house he needs to wear a diaper. Yup, that's it, a year of diaper probation.

Then what do you believe his intent was behind ingesting alcohol, and apparently prescription drugs not belonging to him, if not to get drunk/high? While I believe he didn't decide to kill someone, no one forced the pills and booze down his throat. Let me rephrase my statement for you: The boy didn't get drunk with the intent of killing someone. Is that easier to understand now?

The scary one is "Professor creates remote control people". It's something to think, and worry, about. Someone wants this kind of power, and they will eventually have it. How soon is the question.

I'm not going to try and develop an opinion on this story. There are lots of variables I don't know anything about. One I'm sure is in play here is the states' desire to avoid spending a bunch of money keeping this person locked up. I don't think punishment needs to be prescribed by a book. Justice isn't always about an eye for an eye. This boy didn't decide to get drunk and kill someone, and intent has to have some value in making a decision. Circumstances we will never know about were likely considered, and the court needs to try and do what's best for the offender as well. Simply putting him in jail might be seen as "fair" to casual observers, but the end result may be the eventual release of yet another hard criminal into the community, well trained by his fellow inmates in the art of intentional crime. I think that punishment needs to be about more than punishment. It needs to be about avoiding future offenses, and I believe the U.S. has proven that prison is not a good means of achieving that goal. No country has as many people in prison as the U.S. does, and yet we have higher crime rates than most other countries as well. I'm not trying to make excuses for what happened, but I think it's a lot more complicated than it appears. I think it is most of the time. Can wealthy people buy their way out of a jam? I'm sure that they probably can, at least sometimes. Did that happen here? Honestly, I have no idea. I don't think anyone else does either.

Oh sure, I'm late again, too much messing around, but hey hope you had a super day!

So, it's a croissant shaped like a donut and fried. Other than that it's just a piece of bread with some sweet stuff in and on it. Give me a fresh hot supreme pizza instead. YUM!!

Have you been to High Rock? It's in your neighborhood.

They aren't the author so why should it matter? The story is pretty much written before they see it, so I don't see any conflict there.

This thread is stupid. You have to be desperate to discuss something like peeing on someone. I think it says something about a persons character. Am I judging here? Hell yes!! You might as well be talking about shitting on someone. Pathetic!

Nothing really has a proper place. At least not when the goal is to be creative. It's just about impossible to be creative when you've set your mind to the idea that the world needs to be orderly, that the alphabet must be in it's usual order. It's when I mix things up and throw them in disarray that my imagination get's primed for some real activity. The sky doesn't need to be blue, and the coffee doesn't need to be hot. In fact, nothing needs to be what it seems to be, and nothing exists that can't become something else. Reality is only a word. What I believe is what matters. Belief is more about what I prefer, not what is. Inspiration is about recognizing opportunity, and not about seeking something. Expectations are narrow. Observations are broad. Seeking is limiting. Experiencing is expanding. Don't seek inspiration, experience it.
