I guess I too thought about the disabled and elderly. The thing is that there hasn't really been rural delivery to anything other than a post office in town, or possibly community mail boxes at the end of the road. Also, any new homes in Canada in possibly the last 20 years haven't been getting home delivery and have to use community mailboxes. So, like the elderly and disabled in a town like where Mattie lives which only has a post office with mail boxes, how do they manage? Like anything, change will be difficult at first but eventually you adapt.

Thanks for sharing Wayne! I saw this on the news as well, and was really shocked about his views on civil rights for blacks in the US. It fits in with his views of gays as well. One person in the clip said that he has every right to say what he wants. I agree. They also said that sponsors and the network have every right to not give him a platform to say his views. I agree again. I too wonder how much the money from all the endorsements, merchandise, etc. they get and if it is enough to divide the family. For those wondering why Canada, and I imagine why a child at 14 can get a driver's license, there is more to it than appears. If you live in a town or city, absolutely not going to happen. If you live on a farm 20 miles from town or school most likely not going to happen. Where it does happen is when you live a considerable distance away from your school and rather than dispatching a huge school bus to pick only you up, the Province allows you to get a provisional driver's license for going to school and home. Another provisional one is for farm work. Since in Canada you can get a learners at 14, they are basing that if it is undue hardship on you (and the taxpayers) then in certain cases an exception will be made.

I'm not sure how the legal system works in the US, but I do believe in any Commonwealth Countries it should be the same. The Magistrate has made a ruling. It is now up to the Crown (or Prosecution) to appeal that sentence to the Appeals Court. If the Magistrate erred in any way in the trial or charging of the Jury, then the whole case is up for appeal instead of just the sentence. Though, they got a convictions so I imagine the Crown won't be appealing the trial, just the sentence. That is where the Appeal Court will look at case law and decide if it is reasonable.

I guess what upsets me the most is that this person took four peoples lives for doing nothing more than walking down the street. The driver is drunk and from the radio report i heard may have been on prescription drugs not prescribed to him. Then, to say his upbringing of Mommy and Daddy always taking care of him for every wrong he has done is a legitimate reason for not seeing the inside of a prison for his judgement call is the icing on the cake. At what point are the apron strings cut from this person and he is held accountable for his very adult actions. I concur with the opinion of 'what if'. Can anyone say that if this person was of a different social economic upbringing and he ran down and killed four people, he would have the option to go to a treatment centre that his parents could afford. I think we all know the answer to that

So it was announced that Canada Post will stop delivering door to door mail delivery completely in 5 years. Full story I'm kind of indifferent to this happening . The Canada Post Corporation is subsidized by the federal government to the tune of 1 Billion dollars a year. Considering the evolution of email, and online shopping and courier business, I don't really see an old idea surviving anywhere in the near future. Also the fact that Canada Post mainly delivers direct mail (JUNK MAIL) to me, I'd rather have them set up their community boxes with a huge recycling bin beside it so at least their business is not going into household trash. Through email, I only receive one bill and my tax summary in the mail now. Other than that, straight to the recycling bin (Oops, what about the Christmas cards I'm getting ) So if your country has door to door delivery (Royal Mail, USPS, etc. ) would you be upset if you lost your home delivery of mail daily or is it time to say goodbye to a 20th century staple that is dying a slow death?

So with more and more countries making progressive steps to equalize rights between homosexual and heterosexual persons, I guess it is unfortunate that there are some countries that will try to reverse that direction. Now we have India's Supreme Court overriding a lower court ruling in 2009 that ruled an 1860 law outlawing "carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal". First off the Supreme Courts overruling the lower Courts decision was on appeal from the religious conservative factions. Also, the government facing an increase in pressure from the right wing conservative religious parties, they are believed to not want to open this subject up before May's national elections. India is the world's largest democracy. It is a sad affair to say the least, that religion has such an influence on this nation. It will be interesting to see what kind of reaction the police have, will they enforce the law? What the GLBT community will be doing to increase publicity and pressure for the government to re write the laws? What the international and more specifically the West will do to add international pressure? Hopefully sounder minds will eventually decide this and the government will make the necessary changes to avoid the courts from taking the nation back 154 years into the past. Well I caved into going to Wendy's for the sake of research I ordered the Portabella Bacon Mushroom Melt Burger on a Brioche bun I was pleasantly surprised. The bun is on the sweet side but what I noticed most was the way it took out some of the harshness of the portabella mushrooms. Sometimes they can be overpowering and I did not find it that way in a mouth full of the bun at the same time. Still, one of my favourite LTO burger Wendy's had a was Bacon Mushroom Melt, and it was regular mushroom burger but the liquified imitation cheese was all over the place. Yum. The one I had today sure didn't have much cheese sauce on it Blake, I can maybe answer your question about the bread. About 6 years ago in Canada, bread usually had about a 5 day life after being made. Our producers informed us that new breads coming from their plant would have a 'natural' enzyme added to it which would double it to 10-14 days shelf life. All the big producers use it now in making their bread. Instore baked breads do not have it added, so have the shorter life span.
