Well now we have a bit of his background and some understanding as to how he was made into such a callous "business person". It seems his conscience continues to slowly return. He has an idea of how he'd ruined the lives of so many others now. I wonder what he'll do with that feeling...

    Escape

So we see a glimpse of humanity in our predator. I was wondering how you were going to make him redeemable. Now I see a glimmer of hope for him... faint, but it's there. He still has a long way to go to atone for his sins. I'm still not ready to conjure up much sympathy for him. I'm very interested to see where you take this next.
  3. Prompt 538 has Zombie Dad talking to me...
  4. I wish I could say something to make you feel better and see the good in yourself that the rest of us see. In the meantime here's a big

  6. Great feature! *Note to self--don't drink coffee while reading Dayne Mora's responses* My computer almost got a coffee bath a couple of times! There is such a shortage of good educators that what happened to you should be criminal. I work for an agency that doesn't value its employees and I completely understand the feeling of being shut down and underappreciated. I'm sorry that it's led to you taking a LOA. I hope you're able to recover mentally and physically and find something that won't be so draining in the future. This was a great interview. I need to finish reading "Wolf like Me"!
  7. Happy Birthday!! I hope you had an awesome day! Here's a rainbow cake for you!
  8. I think I'm going to try my own version. I have so many projects that need finishing, this seems like a perfect opportunity to do so. So instead of writing a complete novel in November, my challenge to myself is to write every day. I'd like to write my Fairy Tale story for the Special Anthology and possibly another story for it, finish a special holiday project, and write at least one chapter of "The Hollow Hills". Today I wrote a short story and started my Fairy Tale antho story, so I'm off to a good start.
  9. Well done, as always. I loved the last verse of the first poem.
  10. Your short stories always have me salivating for more... I'm sure they will meet again. It seems that the connection the Owl established meant more than just healing his injuries. I would guess that they wouldn't be able to meet until the next All Hallow's Eve, but I suppose that depends on how deep their connection runs. Maybe the Owl will find a way to make their meetings longer and more permanent. It would be interesting to have this story from Brennan's perspective. I really enjoyed this. A perfect little tale for Halloween.
  11. I've had my first and most likely only trick or treaters of the night. I may get one or two more, if it's a busy night. lol Hope everyone's having a good time!
  12. It's a huge undertaking, that's for sure. I have an idea that's been sitting around for a while now, so this may be the push I need to get it done.
  13. Is anyone going to tackle NaNoWriMo this year? I'm considering it, since I have a student intern till mid December, so I'll have time during the day to work on it. Any suggestions from those who have participated in the past?

    Chapter 1

This was a very sweet story. Makes me want to visit that house on Halloween! I wasn't surprised it was Adrian in the Boba Fett costume. I'm glad that he and Ricky have hit it off so well. I look forward to your Christmas story. Happy Halloween!

I loved it! Ben got exactly what he deserved. I wonder if there will be anything left once the leeches finish with him?
  16. Sometimes it's good to unplug. I hope you enjoy your time off.
  17. Proof that it's possible to overcome extreme adversity. I had to watch a video about Willowbrook during my orientation for my current job. I cried during the whole thing. Seeing how one of its former residents has flourished is very heartening. http://www.lohud.com/story/entertainment/arts/2016/10/19/rockland-artist-willowbrook-painter-stars/91549716/

    Sorrows

I'm so sorry for your losses, Parker. These are all very poignant and heartfelt and written with your usual finesse. The last one brought me to tears. "they don't make friends, or fathers, or raincoats like this anymore..." No...they don't.
  19. Thanks so much! I'm glad you liked it.
  20. I have a sequel in mind. I need to finish up a few things before I even think about working on it, though. Thanks for the review and your beta help.

*shudder* Our predator is one sick fuck. It's hard to feel sorry for him, knowing his 'business practices'. And what does it say about the stranger at the end who comments about how sick the situation is, but rapes him anyway. I know we're still at the beginning of this story... I can't even imagine where you are going to take us.

You have me wondering if Ted and the redhead were in on this together all along. From the roommate's reaction,it seems that he's aware of the predator's predilections... which makes me wonder if he realizes that he's been the victim too and orchestrated the revenge? Like other reviewers, I also noticed that Ted was the only named character. This story is a bit hard to stomach at times, but I have a strong constitution and will weather the storm. Onward...
  23. I loved them all, especially the one about the woodpecker. I also like the ominous last words... "don't get too comfy". Indeed since the north country has already experienced the dreaded S word. Nice job, Parker.
