My brother lives in Colorado and I've been out to visit him twice. Your descriptions bring me back there and make me want to go back. It's beautiful there. I had to laugh at "Treading Water" too, since as Gary said, he has a story of the same name. The scene at the truck was great. I'm really feeling the chemistry between Ben and Travis and have a feeling their relationship is going to be very hot. I love how often you are posting chapters. I'm really enjoying this story so far.

It's interesting how you show what happened through snippets of memories and questions from Bryan and Audra. So we don't get a first row seat, but have to infer and hope and look to what happens next. The trip to the ranch is going to be quite interesting, I'm sure. I look forward to what's next.

Your imagery is spot-on for both of these. Like Northie, I also love the 'gaunt-fingered horizon'. It describes my drive to work (along Route 400) perfectly this time of year. Nice job.

Sorry you're going through all this. Family issues suck, that's for sure. I hope things are on the upswing soon! In the meantime take care of yourself. There's a lot of people who are willing to help out with whatever needs it.

I agree with Gary (Headstall). I really like your writing style, too. The descriptions are evocative, but not overdone, and I get a real feel of Aspen and the characters. I like the pace, too. You are giving us glimpses into their lives very organically, in a showing vs. telling fashion. You have me eager to read more. It's nice to see that it's fairly well-edited, too. There are a few minor mistakes, but nothing that detracts from the story. I'll just mention one of them that always jumps out at me since I am a speech therapist. "Vocal chords" should be "vocal cords". I look forward to what's next!

Well you did it. You managed to make me feel empathy for the predator. I notice he still doesn't have a name, though. I'm so curious to find out if he'll have one at some point (don't tell me, let me find out on my own ) Somehow I don't think things will be all shiny happy roses for him now, despite his softening heart. Now that things are on the upswing, I'm guessing there will be a downturn and the consequences of his old life will hit him hard. I also don't think we've seen the last of Ted. Great job, Parker. I can't wait to see where you take us next.

Well you didn't leave me a review in 2014, so I'm guessing you missed it. I'm glad you read it now, though. The flu can be quite serious, even though most people are able to fight it off just fine. I've known several people, unfortunately, who were asymptomatic and then diagnosed with end stage cancer. It's very sad. I'm not sure if I'll revisit these guys, although I did enjoy updating their story. One of my plans for the winter is to go through my prompt serials--I've written a few of them--and see which ones are worth cleaning up and posting as their own stories. Thanks for reading and for the review!

I based Aunt Sheila off of my great-aunt who passed away a couple of years ago. She had dementia and would ask the same questions over and over. I always sat next to her at Thanksgiving or Christmas Eve because I had the patience to respond to her every time. She was a very social lady and loved having the company. I'm glad you had a nice visit yesterday.

We'll have to agree to disagree, Tim. I'm not saying it's a common occurrence, because it is rare, but influenza can be very serious to young, healthy people too. I went to the ER a couple of years ago due to the flu. It was the sickest I've ever been in my life, and an experience I don't care to repeat. I live alone and was too weak and dizzy to even sit up, let along walk. Thankfully I was in touch with my mom, who came and drove me to the ER. Yes, meningitis can have the same symptoms, but I wanted something more common. Thanks for your thoughts. Sorry to hear about the young man who passed away. I'm glad they found the other person in time.
