The Colonel, General, and techs took Tom's age much better than I expected. Why the techs couldn't figure out those units on their own is beyond me. I'm waiting for the next shoe to drop.

Mac's use of "I'm game" was an unfortunate choice of phrase considering they were to be venturing out as deer. This strange creature must surely be another skinwalker and a befuddled one at that from their actions. A creature unafraid of two large bears and able to push aside the behemoths with ease is fearsome. However, it now seems to have adopted a submissive posture rather than fleeing which indicates they don't feel they will be attacked. By this action, I don't get the impression they are evil.

It's not clear if Lothar arranged Lord Comwyn's death. If he did, he didn't share it with Fran and Fran seems surprised by it. The death does work nicely toward furthering his plans. Despite being near Fran, the duty of guarding Gustave is weighing heavy on Edward. He isn't feeling as though he is doing something important and noble, especially while watching these leeches eat and drink their fill while others do without. It was fortunate it was Lothar outside the tent who bore witness to Fran's rape rather than Edward or Gustave would surely be dead. **** I hate to keep harping about these descriptions of defensive walls, but a seven foot high fort wall is ridiculous. Putting on a roof, rafters and all, in such a short time is quite an accomplishment. They work well together. Lucas says he wants Jubal to stay through the winter, but the invitation is clearly meant to be closer to permanent. Jubal has trodden a careful line with sharing his past, but Lucas has to be wondering how close Jubal and Vincent became. I think we're all wondering when the flame will ignite the tinder here.

I'm not sorry the compound where Sumi and Harakin suffered under those sadists has been purged, but it's been replaced by a different type of evil with New Gunge.
