This is one of the most absorbing and heartfelt stories I have read, but don't worry, it's never cloying or mushy. You will love some characters and hate a few. The protagonist, Rick, grows and develops realistically and satisfyingly. The side characters are entertaining and maddening, sometimes all at once. While it was fun anticipating and devouring a chapter a week, this is one I would binge read in a couple of days!

Now I'm wondering just how many elementals are out there? Was she a shifter too? Was she evil or crazy? Will Brandon be ok? So many cliffies!

I have never been prouder of Davey or his dad than in this chapter. David is truly a different and better person in this timeline. Mom is still materialistic and self absorbed, but not hateful and vindictive, at least not yet. I'm a little nervous about the next chapter, how will the boys take the big news?
-
Poor Sean has had a crapshoot in his do overs. He has never had a consistent "Sean" to come back to, mainly thanks to his conservative Christian parents. Hopefully his dad finds a job locally. This timeline is going too smoothly for something bad to not happen. I mean it's only chapter 5. And we have a book 4 in our future.

I feel vindicated and freed on Davey's behalf! That went so much better than in any other timeline. The baddies are all dead! The only bad thing hanging over Davey's head is how Brian and his other friends will react when they find out about Davey, which they will eventually. The longer be waits the more betrayed they'll feel.
-
Hopefully this new and improved dad will handle it better than the first two times and as well as the last time.

For Rick, CJ and Owen were bittersweet inspirations. Maybe Rick will hold a similar role for Simon. I loved this story from start to finish. Thank you!

No one commented yet that we're back to Davey's POV. I wonder how many people we will hear from?

My gram used to accuse my sister, my cousin and me of "monkey business" and "stirrin' up a commotion" when we were little.

FYI "Doing it Right" (book 3) chapter one is already posted! Brian's POV!
-
I'm surprised and excited we are getting Brian's POV finally. Happy to hear that Reagan took Davey seriously and has started eliminating the time travellers. Also thrilled that Uncle Rich will finally be ok. I think that he will be a good influence for Brian and Davey. This storyline is definitely looking up for Davey. It will be good to see him from the outside, after so much time inside his head. For first-time readers: You have to read "Do Over" and " Do Over Redux" or you will be lost! Totally worth it, they are great reads!

Thank you so much for doing this! If the author is still alive and reading this, thank you for your stories.

One of my favorite series. It is thought provoking and entertaining from start to finish. I urge you to read the chapter comments (no spoilers), they are engaging and intelligent.

If you look at the comments for "Dawn of Tears", you'll see that this author is no longer active. This is a quote from Myr: dkstories is literally no longer with us. I do not know his life status. He left his works with us at Gay Authors and is never expected to return. I have therefore not marked him as deceased as I don't know if he is or not. I believe that Dr. P is correct, we have to wait for part 3 to be posted. I can't wait. This is one of my all-time favorites.

Well it looked like the AIDS crisis will be handled better than in the other timelines. His encounter with brian went well. I'm surprised that Davey has no memory of being "different". Does he remember making the bets with papa? Nudging his dad towards politics? Paying for the house and furniture? His internal conversation with old Davey?
-
I agree with Dr. Palidan, this has been Davey's best timeline by far. I don't think it is a coincidence that our Davey has only tampered with time a little, not a lot, until now. The most important thing is to kill the future time travellers before they can come back, and hopefully this meeting will accomplish that. I'm assuming that dad will be working on the response to AIDS. New Davey may not have old Davey's memories, but he has his own memories, which include that he was "old Davey" and this alone will help his maturity and self acceptance of his orientation. We still have Brian and the boys to look forward to in the new school year.

Chapter 14: Psychological Struggle
CincyKris commented on astone2292's story chapter in Chapter 14: Psychological Struggle
Suck up! How can I follow that!? -
Yes, 4 years have gone by. It sounds like dad has done well with no new intervention from Davey. Mom is concerned with appearances and money, as usual. I wonder how much is left in Davey's account? Papa is a big player in this timeline. Hopefully he has been as good a caretaker as he seems.

We already know that new Davey's don't overwrite other do over Daveys. The Davey in his first Do Over (the one that was friends with Brian, Brandon, and Trevor) didn't get overwritten by the Davey in the previous do over, that August 1981 came and went with no change. So I'm assuming that when this Davey says he has limited time, it's because his brain won't be able to handle it and will shut down again. That's a lot to accomplish in a short period of time.
-
It sounds like Davey might be done with this timeline, I hope not. Everything was going so well. I would think the letters are to people like Reagan who can stop the Russians and the Chinese.
-
Davey is quietly (sometimes not so quietly) manipulating his family into the people he needs them to be. That sounds bad, but he genuinely loves them and wants them to be better people, it just so happens that it's what he needs to meet his goals (no WWIII nuked world). I notice that in all timelines, his mom is happy to spend his money with no thank yous and a self-satisfied smirk on her face. Apparently selfishness is something that is in her core, would it kill her to be grateful?!
-
So much trial and error in Davey's life. He seems to be thinking very rationally so far, but I thought that in the other timelines, too, and look how they turned out!
-
Hmmm, maybe "Rick's Plumbing", "Gus & Rick's Plumbing", "Ernst & Morales Plumbing", "Rico's Plumbing" ? Rainbow Plumbing!!!
-
We know that Davey will need some adult help in order to contact Reagan (to assassinate the foreign time travellers), so he really does need to get his dad on his side. It's funny that the 8 year old has to wait for the grown-up to stop acting like an 8 year old before he can reason with him. I don't hold out much hope for his mom being useful.
-
I can't think of many things I would like less than being back in elementary school with a 60+ year old brain. It's funny how Davey's intervention in the last timeline turned his father into a better person, but his mom into to a worse person. I think those people were there the whole time, it took different triggers and influences to bring them out. Makes me wonder about different potential persons I might have been. But, I'm ok with the me that I am now.
