I realize that Essell is a biologist, not an historian, but I would have thought he would have studied up a little more while he was on the ship. When he wasn't busy with stuff. Priorities are important for newly mated couples.

Always Getting it Wrong
CincyKris commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Always Getting it Wrong
If Joey could get out of his head long enough, he might feel more secure and less impulsive. We are all built differently and can't really help our gut reactions. I remember that as a teen everything seemed so much more extreme than now. Sometimes hormones suck. -
Maybe Coy will mention the new colt Willard to Merrick at the mill. You know, just small talk about horses. As an aside, the mention of the ladder back chair brought back a 30+ year old memory of an episode of Little House on the Prairie. It started and ended with a modern family buying a piece of furniture made by Charles, wondering if there was a story behind it. I have a few old, rustic hand-made chairs. I've wondered about the hands that made them. What were their stories? Chairs and tables similar to the ones made by Coy exist today, going from one family to another.

Ok, lets bring a 110 people in your room and tell you that you are our savior. No pressure. I think that human nuances are going to be difficult for the Puritans to learn. I like the juxtaposition of same sex (and lots of sex) being the norm, and unmasked no sex being the hated minority. I'd like to know more about the effects of the 8 different sub-species mating.

Totally Wet and Full of Surprises
CincyKris commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Totally Wet and Full of Surprises
Such a happy chapter! Joey is like an 8 year old before Christmas. Joey (and Jack) are so lucky they have Roman. If Shaun had a Roman, I don't think he would be dead. A support system, whether it's a great brother, or in Dean's case, crazy, embarrassing, loving parents, keep you from wallowing in self-indulgent misery. -
So many questions! I feel like Adam. All my questions will be answered in time. I wish I were more patient.

Great ending to a very satisfying story! I'm going to miss the guys!

Shaun Hits the Nuclear Button
CincyKris commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Shaun Hits the Nuclear Button
I was afraid that Shaun would hurt himself or others, I guess we should be relieved that he didn't take out anyone else with his knife. I think if his mom had been more like Joey's or Dean's he might still be alive. I guess her bigotry went so deep, she only wanted her son if he was straight. She was so focused on one aspect she didn't like and didn't get him the help he so obviously needed.- 21 comments

I'm very sad we only have one chapter to go, but I'm so happy that Craig and James are going to get their HEA. My favorite line: He’d looked it up online and had a slightly clearer idea of the rules, which included no murder or unnecessary violence, no carrying the ball in a motorised vehicle and no playing after 10pm. Sounds like fun!

Confronting the Worst Day of my Life - Part 2

Also Okiegrad was right, Shaun is a psycho obsessed with Jack, not with Joey! -
Confronting the Worst Day of my Life - Part 2

I agree with the above comments. Shaun has had a mental breakdown, more than a typical teenage hormonal outburst. If he doesn't get real psychological help, he is going to hurt himself and/or Joey and Jack. Who would have thought a couple chapters ago that Dean would be the stable one? -
The Puritans were a bit sloppy on the extrication. I don't have much sympathy for Sage or the 3 boys that were killed. I'm hoping Adam can be cured physically and mentally.
-
Great start. I'm already hooked on poor Adam's story, as well as the aliens' story. Although, one has to wonder at the compassion of a species with the ability to cure a disease, but choose not to. I'm sure we'll get more of the backstory that may explain this conundrum.

Stepping on Troubled Times
CincyKris commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Stepping on Troubled Times
Thank goodness for mom and Roman, they are the stabilizing influence in Joey's life right now. I believe that Shaun is after Joey, not Jack. -
Great work keeping the suspense up, even though we all know how it will turn out eventually!

Ok, so Shaun is secretly in love with Joey and has possibly been so for years. He made some very immature decisions to try to break up Joey and Jack. Jack had a crush on Joey for at least a couple years, the feelings are now reciprocated, but he has experienced unimaginable trauma and is having periods of memory loss. Joey let his anger get a hold of him and attacked his former best friend, who I imagine is now at the lowest point of his young life. Dean is still dealing with his molestation and not doing well. This is teen soap opera at it's best. I'm loving this story!
-
Good question! I hadn't thought about Shaun possibly being in love with Joey. He certainly isn't acting rationally, his lies were so easily found out.
-
I believe it was stated earlier that the uncle is now working on a cruise ship. Where they have lots of unattended teens.
-
Wow, this wasn't the way I thought Jack would break free of his dad! Jack is going to be devastated by the news his mom is dead. If Joey hadn't called the police, Jack would probably be dead too. On a happier note, I really liked Roman.

I was so happy to get an update on Gus and Harry and enjoyed the banter from the parents. Hopefully we'll hear in a future update that James, Francine, and Gus have left conservative Redding to live closer to Dan, Laura, and Harry. I don't think I've ever been camping as an adult without a little day drinking!

I liked this chapter, I think that all the boys grew a little bit. I hope that Dean gets some professional help, he really needs it. I also hope that he tells his parents, both for his own sake and to stop this predator from hurting anyone else.
-
Starting to look like he might have to compete with Shaun for Jack's attention!
-
On one hand, I'm mad that Eike got away, on the other hand that means more chapters! I was impressed that Cyn walked up to a strange wolf and introduced himself. He's come a long way from Arric scaring the pee out of him! Now Hauser has that distinction. I think they should let the bunnies pass judgement!
-
We have some clues starting to coalesce, but this stills feels like we are early into our story (I hope). It's no wonder Michael's eyes seem familiar! I look forward to the Miami surveillance, and especially to the moment where Patrick discovers the familial bond. I kind of hope he finds out before Ford and Michael. I'd love to see what he does with the information. That's assuming that Ford doesn't already know. On a side note, is it any wonder that Patrick is a little unhinged with those bedtime stories!
-
Hopefully the worst is over for Jack! Now that his mum is not at home, he has no good excuse to keep taking the abuse. Joey has been struggling with his orientation in a fairly leisurely manner. I think the pace just picked up!
