Glad to have you back with this story. Tampa is a beautiful area to be. I love the interactions, the philosophical discussions, Joel, with the neural link, now able to tap into Athena ‘s sensors to see anywhere on the Ark, got distracted from what he was doing. The FTL travel in the stingers out to Zeus was interesting. The references to movies and TV from our time is interesting. The very open discussions about sexuality. Looking forward to more on the ark, then hopefully planetside.

Awesome chapter. Sounds like they need to find that old desk. Love that Kai overrode the getting left alone plan. He wants to spend time with Adam.

So now Bzup has the ability to touch, it extends his ability to learn more faster. And the scanning of Jem’s eye has enabled him to grow his own eye, so he ma be better to interpret the world around him like humans do. Maybe these aliens just interacted with he sea life and had no need for arms or eyes while on the surface of the planet. The ability to grow and use arms with 3 “fingers” surely shows a higher form of intelligence, and hopefully protection under the compact for the bureaucrats coming. Can’t wait to read about the eye and interaction Bzup may have with that ability. Reading? Using the human’s tablets to learn faster?

Sounds like they are eliminating some enemies and gaining access to some valuable technology. Jamie is sad at losing his very brave brother.

Bzup proves to be very interesting, greeting the entire crew, asking to go outside. Then going to the ocean and sending out some communication. Being polite and taking the food offered. Going back to his area for the night. I was thinking, maybe some tendril attachment to Jem to gain more access to be able to comment the blobs did with the orx, but that would probably seem too aggressive at this point, like he was attacking Jem, and been cause for violence.

Emmett needed the time to decompress from what happened, and then learning that Dex is dead, and reliving the experience telling Finley about it. He still doesn’t know what Finley is, but feels safe with him. Then totally breaks down when he gets home. And what was that with the alarm going off there when Finley enters?

Adam is now a man on a mission with just a few days to get ready for Kai’s arrival. How will Megan take it? Probably fine. They are close, but he still needs recouping time, and back at his old home it may be easier. Although the will have to explain how the know each other…

If it can process language, then maybe they will be able to communicate. But I’m thinking they need to establish language, kind of how they did in Close Encounters. But is this creature capable of doing that? Then possibly releasing it so it can communicate with it’s creators ? very interesting that it’s just Jem that it is responding to. It did seem to recognize Jem when he said his name, then responded with Bzup. Is that its name? Are the speakers transmitting Jem’s speech to the higher frequencies? Or in human hearing range?

Omg, the banter in the comments is almost as funny as this chapter. Great that Kai is being released. The Doc is hilarious. Kai has a great idea in calling Adam. They both want to talk with each other… looking forward to that, and maybe an in person visit?

Thanks for this story. I’m glad that Conner and Soren are together now. They will be good for each other. Especially now that they are communicating much better.

Now we know it’s not the orx that suddenly became intelligent, but some other alien biotech that has been controlling them. This gets really interesting. Are these sea based aliens as posited, just wanting their own place on the planet, having a similar loss of a way back to their home world like the human inhabitants? Jem and Nico are deepening their relationship, and seem like typical horny young men. this is an exciting adventure.

Glad Kevin read the note and stayed around. That news about the crew spreading misinformation was telling. Kevin has two people to watch out for, Danny and Chris. Hopefully some time in jail and a fine will have Chris being a better person, but if he gets fired over this, there could be some kind of revenge. Chris doesn’t seem that bright.

Soren keeps running into unintended consequences. He is so naive and the people around him are not informing him of what may happen with some things, that are really important.

Will be interesting to see what the scientist discovers about these green parasites…. Are they just controlling the orx brains or are they changing the orx so they are no longer food?

I knew Chandler would push him…. Still took a lot of pushing himself. Now that we’re through that drama. On with the story…

Wow, probably now the father of twin girls who were abused and saw their mother kill her boyfriend…. That is going to need therapy for sure. And a loving parent or parents.

Kai had asked for a quick response and was getting really agitated when it did not come before he was moved. Seems like the package of cigars, photos and updates in the letter satisfied him, making him laugh. He won’t be the one fixing the jetty, but he does appreciate all of the work being done. Especially likes that the bedroom Adam is in, was his room too. Maybe someplace to come home to?

@Cane23 I think it was back in the first chapter, someone he thought was a friend, tricked him and sold him. This chapter with Andrew’s father helping him through the trauma is fantastic. Matt’s current situation has him as a slave, being well fed and trained to increase his muscles. It’s a sad place, but it could be much worse. Hopefully he will grow and develop a mental toughness to this environment. Then be ready to escape when he can.

I like the history lesson, and especially this Compact. Humans at the top, of course, but it recognized all human relationships…. Very nice. Even extended to whatever other worlds they encounter. Love the tentativeness of this blossoming relationship.

A lot happened in this chapter. Julia getting settled in with the boys. Oscar seems standoffish with Julia. Not that I would blame him with she way she left him before. Then the strange video call, and the “accident” with the grands, was it really? Oscar has good friends looking out for him, and dis sign up for using this place as a secure site, maybe he’s just getting overwhelmed.

Started out really nice with Eric taking care of Kevin, then the work, and with having to load the truck, Kevin finished late. Seems like with him being new, there was not good communication about where he was staying… what is in the note?? Hopefully something to clear things up?

Oh Brandon, talking would be so much better than making up things that don’t exist…. Hopefully Chandler will hav som good advice.

Seems this ship has original Earth engines, which are better than the ones built on planet. And they had to adapt sonar tech after not being able to maintain some more advanced tech for searching below the surface. It is interesting that the orx are air breathing beings, and may be more intelligent than initially considered. There was a Star Trek movie with whales communicating with humans showing that they were very intelligent. Even thinking about the current research into marine mammals, they have very complex speech. Love the growing relationship between Nico and Jem they both seem to be attracted to each other. It’s nice they are building a friendship first. Jem’s idea of protecting the deck seems like something good to do, and was acted on right away.

Geron, looks like another amazing world that you’ve created here. Looking forward to the adventure.
