The Germany-Greece score could have been a lot more lopsided. The Germans missed some excellent chances in the first half and if they'd have scored on some of those, who knows how the Greeks would have played in the second half. Besides, at that level you don't hold back on scoring - it's not like a kid's game where you're trying to let your team win without embarassing the other team. These guys are professionals.

How do they keep the critters from stealing those cookies? lol The heat explains some of the political ideas coming out of Texas though. Guess the politicians forget their hats from time to time and end up brain-fried.

I hope their parents teach them some manners, cuz those kids need a good ass whoopin'. What's goin' on up there in Wegman country? I hope none of Danny's grandkids were involved. Must be since they couldn't bully the other kids, they had to find a new target.

Now I didn't say you had to be old to remember those games, but unfortunately kids don't seem to play them nearly as much these days. I'm glad you are enjoying 'meeting' everyone again.

Not in recent years. Growing up as a kid, I lived in the country and we never locked our house. The old woman down the road had a cooky stand, and the cookies were about the size of today's personal pizzas and there were several varieties, which she charged a nickle for. Every afternoon, after she finished her baking, she'd take the fresh cookies up to place in the jars and at the same time remove the money from the small open containers that was there from the previous day. No one ever attempted to cheat her, be it the kids, the adults or even strangers who werre merely passing by, but I'm not sure if that could be done any longer.

along the same line as soda and pop, down here in GA it's only referred to as coke. Do you have dinner or supper? Do you wear a swimsuit or a bathsuit? Do you wear sneakers or track shoes? Some of the country folk still wear overalls, not jeans. Do you say milk or melk?

Thanks, Louis, I'm glad you enjoyed this, if that's the correct term. After listening to the recent political and religious POVs about homosexuality, I didn't see this as being so far-fetched, although I hope the world will come to its senses and control these fringe element.

Well Germany will play Greece, while Portugal will play the Czech Republic. I figured the footballers were all big Summer Olympic Game fans and just emulating a personal hero, Greg Louganis. He'd be proud of their diving efforts.

Scavola, you must be quite advanced for your age, seeing you're only 0. lol To all new members, check out the Summer Anthology (Choices) and get a feel for what GA has to offer. Then, if you want to contribute, look at the topics for the Fall (Friends and Enemies) or Winter (Desperate Ends) Anthologies and maybe plan ahead to make your first post there.

Over the years, different countries have had their runs. When I was growing up and playing soccer, a new sport to my high school and the league we were in, it was Brazil and Pele that were king. Artentina also had a good run, and now it's Germany and Spain, but I'm sure others will get their days in the sun too.

The alchohol addiction came prior to the beating. It was claimed that his blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit the night he was stopped, after a high-speed chase, but that didn't justify the beating the police gave him afterward. My his afterlife be kinder to him than his life.

A tender look at a difficult situation. Too bad all parents couldn't put the love of their child ahead of any preconcieved notions they might hold. Got a kick out of the dream sequence and the entire story was well done.

WL, very thought provoking and I could identify with each category. I think I have known a friend or relative that would fit in each situation, but that's what happens when you approach being as old as dirt. If I may, I'd like to offer you my thoughts on one topic you missed. That would be 'futility.' That would encompass those who have totally lost one or more of their senses, bodily control, through paralysis, accident or amputation, or mental ability and literally gives up, because there is no longer a quality of life. Otherwise, I found it a very emotional journey through the situations you described.
