    Chapter 45

I see you’re gathering in even more members of the family! But these guys seem to specialize in painfully shy kids! One of these days, the painfully shy kid is going to turn out to be Bipolar and they won’t know what hit them!
  2. Happy Birthday, Lisa - pal o'mine
  3. Happy Birthday, Gary Hope you had an awesome day
  4. Happy Birthday, Gary.
  5. Ah, the Fourth Doctor. I preferred the Fifth Doctor. ;-) From the Five Doctors special, (clockwise from the left) the First Doctor, the Fourth Doctor, the Second Doctor, the Third Doctor, and the Fifth Doctor. Openly Gay Matthew Waterhouse as Adric. Nyssa is standing behind his shoulder, Tegan is on the far right. Note the Doctor’s stalk of celery! ;-) Tegan again, with newer Companion, Turlough. I’m sure @Timothy M. knows which companion I preferred. And why! ;-)

    Chapter 1

Like Tait, I thought that he got lucky and managed to away with his drowsy driving. I’m easily confused and it took me a while to figure out who Tobias, Jason, and Sloan (kind of a nouveau riche kind of name, if you ask me) were. But the characters all come together well. ;-)
  7. Christmas? Yeah. Merry early Christmas .lol
  8. Season seven is also notable for having several Game of Thrones alumni featured. I easily recognized Liam (Davos Seaworth) Cunningham and Tobias (Edmure Tully) Menzies in Cold War. I recognized Diana (Olenna Tyrell) Riggs’ voice before I figured out who she was in The Crimson Horror. Not from Game of Thrones, but fondly remembered as Freddie Honeychurch in A Room with a View, Alec Scudder in Maurice, and Paul Prentice in Different for Girls, Rupert Graves who was featured as a big-game hunter in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. Coincidentally he exposed his penis in all of those movie roles.
  9. I find it interesting that The Doctor keeps saying ‘Geronimo!’ in Season 7. Neither he, nor the BBC seems to be aware just how offensive the exclamation is. It’s a reference to the Native-American leader, but used this way is an insult originated by those geniuses of tact and subtlety, the US military (paratroopers, in particular). I would think The Doctor was more knowledgable about the origins of the things he says.

    Chapter 1

Lots of intriguing ads on TV right now. Planning to see it with my best friend. I haven’t seen anything in the theaters since Frameline41 in June. ;-)

    Chapter 21

Sometimes the driver has been forced into the role. The trigger is set off remotely. Perhaps the two were the ones who were monitoring and setting off the car bomb – they might not have wanted evidence to get into the hands of the authorities who might have been able to trace things back to them. Which backfired on them when they got caught anyway.

    Chapter 1

It’s a combination of what I know about homeless shelters through personal experience and what I’ve learned about abused spouses from news reports. One of my friends I met in a shelter has a history of being with emotionally and physically abusive partners. Her current boyfriend is mildly(?) emotionally abusive. So stories about the topic are more real to me now and I pay more attention.

    Confidence

Not all of us get the chance to be a mentor to a young LGBTQ person. Many things conspire to keep older LGBTQs away from younger ones. But when I would have benefited the most, I would have been too terrified to initiate any sort of contact. I met a Gay couple (the brother of a coworker) in my early stages of Coming Out, but it was a one-time thing. I was also introduced to a group of Gay friends at a wedding, but that also was a one-off. I needed a more continuous connection that wouldn’t happen for years. LGBTQ community centers are the best venue for that! ;-)
  15. In the ‘80s, In Touch for Men magazine (a lawsuit forced the awkward name on the porn magazine) had a pictorial featuring candid shots of surfers changing out of their wetsuits along 101. A few of the surfers tried using a towel to insure privacy. A few noticed the telephoto lens aimed at them and reacted by flipping the photographer off. Black bars through their eyes and blurred license plates were used to provide anonymity. The images were mild compared with similar images available online these days. ;-)

    Chapter 21

A car bomb against a fortress. They made their point. The world’s media spreads the word that they’re intolerant and dangerous. And maybe they pick up a few recruits attracted to their particular brand of hate. But love is greater than hate. ;-)

    Holiday Time

Giving is the most important part of the holiday season for me! When I was a child, it was all about getting things. As I grew older, I loved giving gifts to my nieces and nephews. Now that they’re all adults, I’ve turned outwards to people outside my family. ;-) Having been homeless for two years (and housed for the last five years), I’ve been donating things to one of the organizations that assisted me when I had no money or resources. I’ve contributed in the past to my local food bank, and to the local police/fire fighter drive to provide toys to needy children. There are many more deserving organizations than I can afford to donate to, but always make sure that the group(s) you support would support you in return (eg no to the red kettles). ;-) As an Agnostic, I don’t always identify things in those terms, but I do feel it’s important in any case. Thank you for the mention, mogwhy! ;-)

    Brotherhood

Haifa? Haiti? Hong Kong? Honduras? Houston? ;-) I enjoyed seeing Rush & Ben, but where was their kid? I was pretty sure why the ‘phobic parents were trying to keep the brothers apart. And I was thinking that Charlie was a man for a while too. I thought that maybe Eli and Issac were closer in age and possibly even in exactly the sort of relationship their parents were afraid of. But it sounds like Eli was just a very nurturing older brother for a much younger brother starved of affection. ;-)
  20. Shockingly, it was in support of The Crown. I guess it was Netflix’s idea in an attempt to broaden the show’s audience. But it was fun to see him on broadcast TV in the US! ;-)
  21. I just realized what you wrote here. So your Brother California would be naked, but holding a flag in front of his crotch? ;-)

    Chapter 1

I’m afraid this story is much too common. With women, there is often the additional complication of children. Coordinating things so they all get away is difficult and while there are some (but never enough) services out there, figuring out where they are and how to access them is confusing. Quite often, people run with no resources – in at least one case with just one sock and no shoes! With men, there’s the problem where there are few, if any, resources available. There is also the sexist, homophobic idea that you must somehow be less of a man if you are being abused (this happens to men abused by their wives or girlfriends too). In some cases there are people who refuse to believe that same-sex spousal abuse even exists! In many cases, abuse victims end up in homeless shelters. Most homeless shelters are not set up to deal with their issues. They usually aren’t set up to house families together either (imagine the stress and frustration of being kept away from your only source of support when you’re in the middle of a crisis).
  23. Whenever I read a story and you’re not crying, I wonder what’s wrong! I wish I was a more emotionally available person. But culturally, emotional expression is strongly discouraged. And, even with therapy, I haven’t been able to break that curse. ;-) Why didn’t Eli end up Coming out as bi-ish? Will we still be suffering from bi-invisibility two decades from now? Bisexuality exists and I don’t need to experience it first hand to know that. We need to support all of our sisters, brothers, and siblings even if we don’t understand them. ;-)
  24. It’s a little cooler up here in the Bay Area, but SF is known for the nudity at Folsom St Fair, the Bare to Breakers runners in the Bay to Breakers marathon, and SF’s Baker Beach. I can remember how KGTV* used to send camera crews down to Black’s Beach every Memorial Day for their annual report on the unofficial start of summer in the ‘70s. Naturally, the shots were heavily censored with shots carefully framed with women only shown from the shoulders up and men only shown from the waist up. Aside from distant rear shots, anything else was covered up by black bars. I also remember on-scene reports of streakers at San Diego State – back when streaking meant actually taking your boxers off too! * Their standard flood reports every winter were always from the same locations too: Santee and the south entrance to Fashion Valley (which was specifically designed to allow the floodwater to flow over the pavement without damage). I used to live in East San Diego and graduated from Crawford High School. I lived a few blocks away from 54th & University back before the neighborhood deteriorated (I’ve seen the satellite views).
  25. There’s an interesting contrast between this story and @craftingmom’s Ripped. Both have a high school student still grieving for his beloved father when his mother enters into a relationship with another man. But the stories are at very different points in their story arcs. And the protagonists have dealt with their pain in very different ways. ;-)
