There is a lot of good, dedicated, objective science in psychology with many advances in the past 100 years. And no it isn't perfect and the exceptions often outnumber the rules. I think many people share the above opinion Tim quoted and that's why so many go untreated and also why much treatment is not covered by insurance. For the people who suffer from a mental disorder, it is an ongoing stigma and burden. As far as researches finding what they are looking for, that brush tars all science and that's why there is this thing called peer review and replication of results to weed out confounding factors. As far as JJ having a mental disorder, I haven't really seen enough to even consider it. He may have exhibited some personality and character flaws but he is a teenager and that is an unsettled time even in the most well behaved adolescent. Maturing is not a straight line process. Being a spoiled rich kid has its own pitfalls or problems and is perhaps not such a good environment for producing well-rounded, well-adjusted teen-agers.

Glad to hear you are having a great visit. There is so much to see and do. We took our kids in 1991, before Oklahoma bombing and well before 9/11 so it was quite a bit more open then and the Metro prices were cheaper as well. My kids still talk about that trip and they were 11 & 8 at the time.

Safe? Heading into an area with some of the worst winter weather on the planet in a Cat? Bridget is still scheming and actively planning their demise. I don't think Trevor and Shane are safe by a long ways just yet. And yes, Arrrghhh! Another week until we find out anything!

A cliff-hanger ending with a view of a real outcropping called Cape Horn! Too ironical even for a goat! Another spellbinding chapter even if a bit shorter than the prior 6 when we want so much more! Arrrggghhh, as I grind my teeth realizing I have to wait at least another week....

I enjoyed seeing Nana resuming her role as a 'player' and doing it so adroitly. The bigger take-away for me is that Wade is still figuring out things about himself. Including the fact that he doesn't fully understand the mystery of his own sexuality. Something that most of us never quite figure out and which is why we continue to be so interested well into our dotage. (And yes I am looking forward to it for the next 30 years or so!)

Well he did get the Presidential Medal of Freedom in February 2011 and was prominent in the festivities with the Cardinal's win of the World Series in 2011. But he was not controversial, and always genial which is not what gets into the news.....

Ed I think your friend was more than bored. Despite his parents being there, he was feeling lonely and reached out. We don't always understand our friends, especially when something traumatic happens to them. We can be there for them and you did that. Charge on! Oh, I lost track of your trying to buy a place and your blog makes no mention of it???

She and her sister both were both examples of common sense, no nonsense, and were fearless in their replies. Abby was noted for her short replies which often skewered the writer who asked her advice. She never validated anyone's prejudice. We had two dailies when I was growing up, the morning Globe-Democrat and the afternoon Post-Dispatch. Abby was in the morning paper and her twin Ann was in the afternoon paper. I usually read both papers and both columns. Their columns were often the topic of conversations.

The shadowing ship is troublesome and Granger has found a way to make it come to him and accomplished two more tasks at the same time with obtaining fresh water and wood. Now if the pursuer takes the obvious course, he may find out who is so interested.

I found it interesting that Will overheard Brad and Robbie arguing yet nothing seemed to come of it. Robbie is still a clueless idiot enabler for JJ. JJ is still the self-absorbed idiot teenager ready to flunk a semester and lose his chance at going to Nationals. Brad is usually more results oriented. He must be losing his touch or have way too much on his plate with work to give his home life the time and effort it needs. Will is still a very lucky young man.....even if he didn't get laid in this particular chapter.

Well it maybe over for you, but it's still just 6:30 p.m. here so it's not too late for me to wish you a very Happy Birthday and here's hoping for the best year ever for you!

The interesting take-away that I see is that Granger somewhat surprised his officers with his decisive handling of the rogue Spanish sailor. As it was not a member of the crew, the crew would have no resentment, but would be reminded of the authority of the ship's captain. As they head into the stormy waters of the Cape, without radar, radio, GPS, decent navigational maps or any of the modern maritime aids, discipline may well be required in an emergency. Phillips mention of rogue waves and the vagaries of the wind called "williwaws' blowing off the mountains was timely too. Hopefully, the Bacchante will not be found wanting if faced with such perils. With rough seas, cold rations, and sea spray, misery seems to be their fate until they round the horn.

What a nice surprise! Granger is definitely headed into stormy waters, but his ship is sound and fully provisioned. Hopefully the remaining Spaniards are sufficiently impressed with the quick disposition of one who attacked the former prisoner to consider their own fates. On such a voyage facing what he was facing Granger had no room for a rogue and I loved the line about an insult to a good rope. Well done as usual. And hopefully, the hiatus is in the past.

I thought the fourth quarter was the most exciting so far of the post- season.

Interesting details about CJ's and Mattie's trusts and it looks like there will be some real 'family feud' before the audit is completed. CJ has already made some big plans and has lot's of ideas. While money does talk, construction and the vagaries of the weather usually mean things take longer than expected. The underlying problem with CJ and Mattie's dad seems intractable and the party may well end badly.... A very informative and transitional chapter! Two thumbs up
