Adjusting to crutches and the loss of a leg is a long process and he still has the whole process of the fitting and learning to use a prosthetic. Frustration and disappointment with only some small victories will be his lot for some time to come. The physical and emotional cost is high and it speaks to their grit that so many actually make it.

Great answers which show every author's experience is unique despite the many commonalities of good writing. My preference is longer stories with long chapters. I have a short story on site and admit I spent more time on it than most of my longer chapters in my other two long stories. So for me brevity is harder.

My preference for a dry rub or marinade depends on the cut of meat. The better and way more expensive get the dry rub. Chuck steak gets the marinade. But to each their own!

I didn't like this part the first time I read it and don't much care for it this time. Clay not only didn't trust his son, he didn't trust Greg. After all Greg and Mason have done that wasn't called for. The parental reaction defense doesn't wash either as Clay admitted he didn't even read the material.

There is a real fraternity among most police departments and bros take care of bros is more than just a saying. Greg's immediate offer for Clay to bring Orson to the Refuge was no mere gesture but a heartfelt act of compassion and obligation for a wounded brother. Families pitch in and help and Mason surely gets that too as exemplified by his willingness and help. Sorry about the wind and fire danger in your area. That back-up generator and powerwall may both be in your future.

Well Kieran is now fully apprised of Mr B's real identity and of his manipulation too as well as the complication of Rhys. Ranevargar is an ancient Elf and was high King before K's grandfather. Still no idea as to the new powers K weilds, their source or how K was gifted or why. More please!
