Sven Tollefson has never married. In fact, he's never had a relationship of any type. During the drought of 1888, he was worried about his hay and corn crops. Without enough to feed his milking cows, they'd never get through the harsh Minnesota winter. He hires a young local man to help him with this new idea called 'silage. This is their story.

Jay’s life changes drastically when he is wisked away from the world he is familiar with in Texas and lands in the very different environs of Portland, Oregon. He discovers a family and friends for the first time and he is going to have to deal with the good and the bad. Zane is in the closet with only his best friend knowing about his secret until someone new shows up. The only problem is that this person brings his problems with him and has Zane help him. Will they come out unscathed in the end?

Sometimes evil wears the garb of generosity and 'guidance,' and the young can sense this destructiveness around them. From ages ten to fourteen, Simon has his inherent goodness and resolve tested by the shady undercurrents within the small town where he is growing up. Will he come out on the other side of his adolescence as pure as he went into it? These five novellas will explore questions of faith and Simon's process of becoming a young man.

Eleven-year-old Simon has a chance meeting, and spends time with an out couple. He is forced to deal with society's fears, and his own prejudice, on what Gay people are supposed to be like. This is pitted against the reality of Greg and Joey as a happy, and ordinary pair.

Twelve-year-old Simon stands in the play yard breaking his best friend's heart, and is doing it for all the 'wrong reasons' – reasons of fear-based bigotry and homophobia. He must decide whose side he is on, and remembers the school year as a series of ups and downs, and of joys and sorrows. One memory may be able to make him do the right thing after all, if he can accept its message.

Thirteen-year-old Simon sits face to face with Father Strathmore, but what has he done wrong... experimented with drugs, kissed a boy, or lied in Confession? The priest has a vested interest in finding out, and it is a deeply personal and troubling one.
