Drew's Poetry Prompts - 11. Poetry Prompt 5 Again
On 6 June 2017, Guero passed away. May he rest in peace.
Pet Owner’s Lament
I watch over you, on the floor,
As you wait at Death’s Door.
You breath in and out, so shallow,
On this ground, so hallowed.
And now, you are just skin and bones,
Your time is all but done.
The Grim will come for you, to reap,
When you’re, at last, asleep.
And, before that time comes, Guero,
Let me say, te amo.
I never mentioned this before, but my family's cat is named Guero. It's the Spanish word for fair-haired, and it is associated with the color white- which is why my mother gave Guero that name when he was a kitten.
Finally, "Te amo" is Spanish for "I love you."
