Drew's Poetry Prompts - 11. Poetry Prompt 5 Again

On 6 June 2017, Guero passed away. May he rest in peace.

Pet Owner’s Lament

I watch over you, on the floor,

As you wait at Death’s Door.

You breath in and out, so shallow,

On this ground, so hallowed.

And now, you are just skin and bones,

Your time is all but done.

The Grim will come for you, to reap,

When you’re, at last, asleep.

And, before that time comes, Guero,

Let me say, te amo.

I never mentioned this before, but my family's cat is named Guero. It's the Spanish word for fair-haired, and it is associated with the color white- which is why my mother gave Guero that name when he was a kitten.

Finally, "Te amo" is Spanish for "I love you."

My heart breaks for you Drew. I know how much you love your cat. They are family and provide unconditional love. Just remember that you did the same for him. You provided him a good life! ❤️❤️

Thank you JP. 🤗

Hugs for you Drew. Great poem. Pets can touch us, as much as our fellow Humans do.

I know this hasn't been an easy time for you, drew. But portraying emotions through written word can be part of the grieving, and also part of the healing, process. Guero will be cherished in your memories as well as here on this page.

One of the hardest things we will have to do is watch a beloved pet slip away. Your emotions, feelings and thoughts come through loud and clear in your carefully chosen words. You did good, Drew. In taking care of Guero, and in writing this poem.:hug:

Farewells are always hard. DrewMyLove, this poem emanated from the love you have towards Guero. Those emotions I can feel from this poem were so heartfelt. Hang in there buddy.

Love,

~Emi.
