Das Wollen steht

Du fliehst und fliehst

Nicht halten

Suchen nicht

Ich

Will

Dich

Nicht!

Das Wollen steht

Und reißt die WĂ€nde nieder

Das Wollen steht

Und ebbt die Ströme ab

Das Wollen steht

Und schrumpft die Meilen in sich

Das Wollen steht

Und keucht und keucht

Und keucht

Vor dir!

Vor dir

Und hassen

Vor dir

Und wehren

Vor dir

Und beugen sich

Und

Sinken

Treten

Streicheln

Fluchen

Sehnen

Um und um

Die runde runde hetze Welt!

Das Wollen steht!

Geschehn geschieht!

Im gleichen Krampfe

Pressen unsre HĂ€nde

Und unsre TrÀnen

Wellen

Auf

Den gleichen Strom!

Das Wollen steht!

You beg and beg

Not holding

Hunting not

Me

Craving

Thee

Not!

The passion stays

And crying pulls down the face

The passion stays

And ebbs from the currents

The passion stays

And shrinks the miles within

The passion stays

And pants and pants

And gasps

For thee!

For thee

And hates

For thee

And resists

For thee

And will bow thus

And

Sink

To come

Touching

Cursing

Longing

Round and round

All around the conniving world!

The passion stays!

Happenings happening!

In an equal climax

Our hands press

And our joint tears

Crest

As

The exact same flow!

The passion stays!

Not thou!

Not thyself!

The passion stays!

Not

Me!

This certainly describes the persistence of passion and the struggle one experiences with love. The title is particularly apt. 

Thank you, Parker. This is the opening verse of the last volume to be printed in the man's lifetime, Love Poems. He was soon to die in the First World War.

I think I will have to look deeper into this book :)
