Translation Trashbin - 49. one jacket

.

Sweet is a summer draft of snow

to he who thirsts in heat,

and sweet the West Wind of spring

for sailors biding a winter's storm.

But the sweetest of all

Is when one jacket covers

two partners,

for then Aphrodite’s honors

rest on the shoulders of both.

—Asclepiades of Samos, [i]

circa 270 BC

This beautiful poem deserves to endure for all the millennia to come. I’m so glad you translated it for us.

Thank you, Parker. Both the "Greek Anthology" and "Deipnosophists" contain copious amounts of Gay love poetry written in Ancient Greek. If they are able to make it though out current times, they they will endure
