Rip: Trebs

Rest In Peace

gallery_10349_448_18779.jpg

We must share the sad news that Trebs, or Robert, as he was known to many long-time friends on GA, has passed away, far too soon, from his battles with lymphoma. As a board member and administrator, he has been involved with GA for a long time. He was a big presence in the site blog in recent years, but he was so much more than that and often active in quiet ways. He was always willing to help others whenever, and however, he could. So many of us here were lucky enough to count him as a friend. He will be deeply missed.

***UPDATE*** Many people have asked where they can send flowers. We have noticed this message from Robert's family: "If you would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, Robert's Charity of choice is The Trevor Project. ( www.trevorproject.org ) or you can help in the fight against the cancer that took Robert by donating to The Lymphoma Research Foundation (www.lymphoma.org). Thank you."

Farewell, friend.  I will miss you.

I had the pleasure, over the years, to meet Robert in person twice, sit and have a meal with him along with several other wonderful people. As I have said before, he was a jewel amongst men. Robert had the ability to make you a part of the conversation, as if he'd known you for years. He will be missed.

Rest in peace, my friend. And when you see Vic (and you will - just look for the gym bunnies, he'll be close by), tell him I said hello.

I saw this last night, but was too stunned to say anything. I've known Robert for twelve years. We first met playing a game called Sims Online, and as you can imagine, he was very well liked there, so much fun to talk to, and always the first to help anyone out. Even back when he barely knew me, he gave me his phone number when I was going through a rough time. Since then, I had the pleasure of meeting him in person twice. I was also at the dinner Sharon mentioned above. Like everyone has said, he was truly a good and caring person, and gave so much to everyone else. The world doesn't see too many people like him.

I love you and miss you, my friend.

So sorry to hear about this, I had a little interaction with him on this site and found him to be just a delight.  He will be missed.

Praying for all those whose lives he touched and hope they can remember the good times.

If you want to read more about what a great man Robert was, the California Democratic Party released a very nice press release about him. Along with those of you on here that knew him well, the announcement by the CADEM made me wish I knew him better.

Thanks goes out to Westie for supplying his last name. And a memorial on GA sounds like a great idea. Maybe something like the candle that always burns for Codey.

Borrowing from Vince Gill:

I know your life
On earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil the lymphoma
You were no stranger to the rain
Go rest high on that mountain
Son, you work on earth is done

I find comfort thinking your pain is gone. Although for those left behind it's just begun. May they find comfort in good memories.

I'm so new to this site, and obviously never got to interact with him, but I'm very sorry for those that knew him. I hope they find the peace and comfort that he has now found himself.

I didn't know him personally, but of course saw his posts. I loved the picture of him and his dog.  I am sorry for those of you who lost a friend.  May he rest in peace.

I pray cancer is beaten someday soon.

I think that would be a great idea.  Trebs was an integral part of this place. I for one was shocked, I thought he was getting better.  It would be nice, though, if we could show his loved ones somehow that he affected people world wide, as I'm sure he has. He's kept me sane and grounded at least on more than one occasion, and am glad I could call him a friend. His family has asked for donations to the trevor project in lieu of flowers, maybe we can set something up nice?

Rock solid and loyal he was a pillar of the GA community and heaven is a better place for his arrival. May the wind always be beneath your wings and the sun shine brightly on your face.

Sleep well Trebs.

I remember Trebs organizing a GA gathering when he and Dan came to DC for the first inauguration of Barack Obama back in January of 2009. Trebs was a great organizer of things, and put together a dinner at a restaurant in Union Station. It was unusually cold that weekend, and the cold leaked into the atrium of the station where the cafe was located, but the warmth of the gathered crowd (assisted by a few sweaters and vests) defeated the cold of the weather. He and DK were very much in love at the time, and as a local resident who knew the town, I remember showing them around the shops of the station, where they purchased amethyst bling for each other. Happy memories of someone who only got to meet him in person that once...

Hard to believe someone so young, vital, and important is gone.
