Well, we're at the start of another week and this week we are going to look at a story written by Parker Owens called "Predator Prey". Being part of the Review Team here on GA, I often find myself on the look-out for what will be the next story I review. So, I pretty much had my eye on this fantastic story since about mid-2017 when Parker Owens posted the final chapter.   


In Predator Prey, Parker Owens introduces us to a character, who’s extremely hard to care about at the beginning of this tale. This person is a predator, preying on vulnerable people, using and abusing them in the worst ways possible, and then tossing them aside on the hunt for his next victim. Something happens to the predator early on in this story, the tables are turned on him, and he becomes the victim of another predator possibly even worse than he is. He has to leave, to get away for his own safety. But, the question becomes, who will he turn to? He has no friends, no potential allies, just fellow predators and past victims. So, who does such a person turn to for help. And, possibly more importantly, does he even deserve help in the first place?   


I personally think this story is some of the best writing that Parker Owens has posted to the site. The main character is every bit as reprehensible as I described, and yet through Parker’s talented prose, I found myself finding sympathy with this predator. I became enthralled with his story, eventually finding myself caring about him, and rooting for him to overcome his struggles, even those of his own making.


I don’t want to say too much more for fear of potentially spoiling something. I will say, this story definitely does start out in a dark place. However, it doesn’t stay there. It is the epitome of a roller coaster ride, filled with drama, romance, and thrills to satisfy all.

I have to agree with @spikey582. Parker sent me a couple of his first chapters to read before he really started to write PP in earnest. I urged him to finish it, I think he would have in any case, but i could see the potential for a great story.  It certainly was, and definitely is worth reading.

I may as well join my fellow beta readers: Outstanding story. Gripping and at times scary, there's hope beneath the drama. Parker does redemption better than most.

He does indeed. Hope, belief in others, and yes, the idea of redemption are some of the aspects of Parker's writing that make it so memorable. If you haven't read this before, take a deep breath, and give it a go.  :)

This is an excellent story and well worth reading.  Parker takes a person who appears utterly unworthy of sympathy or redemption, yet

manages to turn the tables on the reader, as well as the predator, and make him a sympathetic character.  His redemption process is believable and organic, and I found myself rooting for him in the end.

Just like A to Z, not always easy to read. This story puts you through the ringer of emotions. Parker is a masterful storyteller and character builder. He peels away the layers of characters, allowing you to empathize with the worst of a person. Redemption is the main theme of this well written story.

Like most of Parkers stories, I found this story interesting, albeit it took halfway through it for me to actually like the main character. At first I thought he was a despicable person, but as the story went on he grew on me. I think I'll go read it again now!

What I don’t understand is how Parker Owens, who seems to be such a likable guy, can write such disturbing beginnings in both Predator Prey and A to Z!  ;-)

 

Parker had me engaged from the first chapter until the very end, usually speculating on what would happen next!  ;-)

One of my favorite stories, I eagerly anticipated each chapter. I agree with what the other posters have said. It is a rollercoaster, and when you finally reach the end, you know you have been on a great ride. I highly recommend Predator and Prey!

Definitely a must read! It is a riveting, emotional ride. Parker doesn’t just unravel the character, he unravels the reader as well. The person I was as I started reading, was totally changed by the end of this story.  It is a riveting, emotional ride...

Dugh, it was a lot like A to Z. First quarter I kept putting it down. It was just so hard to read. I promise there’s a moment where it gets easier.

I did the same with A to Z. It hit too close to home, but spurred me to write some very therapeutic poetry. :)  Predator and Prey is well worth the tough stuff, dugh. Trust me. :)

What chapter does that occur ? I may start reading from there. ;) When I go back and read A to Z I always start with Andy arriving at Eugene's place and ignore all the bad stuff in the first part of the story. I haven't dared to try Predator Prey due to the warnings and story description.  :pinch:

I don’t think we should tell you. (Sorry @Parker Owens!) Otherwise you’ll get distracted and we’ll be waiting even longer for updates on your stories!  ;-)

You could try starting with Chapter 5.  That's the first chapter not requiring warnings.
