Edit: I've re-read the thread intro, specifically the request for fundamental truths that are "profound and important". While I am still of the firm belief that cats are indeed plotting their revenge I accept that this is just my opinion, and that I could be wrong about this (but I know I am not!). So on reflection, and paraphrasing some document I read about somewhere, I am pleased to say:

 

"I hold this truth to be self-evident that cats are not Man's Best Friend."

If you make eye contact with an attractive guy or girl, don't be the first one to break eye contact. It's a game, and you lose when you look away first. It takes some practice for this to not feel awkward, but a subtle smile can earn you bonus points.
