Why I Love GA (but really Mark Arbour) Part Deux

My previous "Why I Love GA" has been archived.

So here is part 2 of why I really appreciate Mark so much.

I've been reading another story in the 9-11 slowdown and I've genuinely enjoyed it. I have noticed a couple of things though, one is that the writer only seems to care about accuracy in the story as it relates to topics that interest them and another thing is they don't respond to each and every review as Mark does.

I think it is amazing that Mark cares enough to respond to each review and even when he is criticized, thanks people for the feedback.

I also think it is amazing that Mark cares enough to care about accuracy and that details matter.

Way to go Mark!

I really appreciate the detail that Mark puts into making people "feel" like it's the period the story is set in. For example, the bit in Be Rad, where Brad remembers how a couple a years ago, he would have had an afro comb in the back of his pocket. Or the bit in Paternity (or Poor Man's Son), where Will puts on a hoodie, his flip-flops, and pops an Adderall. Little things like that which re-create the time period for the readers.

Arbour's stories are  noteworthy for their attention to detail and he paints incredible word pictures which puts his readers right in the moment.  And he does it without pretense.   He certainly has a knack for telling a good story and was the reason I joined GA!

i love Mark Arbour because he provides me with interesting and gripping reading materials for all those lectures in which i'm failing to pay attention because they are boring :D

...although hes an academic, so that might be a little awkward to admit. oops.

Mark's concern for his readers, story detail, his characters all this makes the story and characters more real. It is the reason we care so much. The reason in times like this we check many times a day for a new chapter. The reason we go back and reread the story or saga from the very beginning. It is what makes Mark, Mark. And that is a very good thing.
