It's the tendonitis... makes my hand unsteady.

Yup, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! 😊

(But seriously.. do these things fly??)

Yes, but only in Florida, because it’s warmer than here in Canada.

Trust me...the bugs here....*shudders*

If anyone ever tells you that "they're just Palmetto bugs" RUN! Turn tail and run. They're giant roaches. That fly. 😱

Speaking of giant bugs, there was a huge one buzzing around the window last night. Thank goodness the screen didn’t have any holes in it, because I’m sure it was looking for a way in... *shudders*

I guess this just isn't my night. I had a nice long walk with the dogs, came back looking forward to cutting up the cantaloupe and watermelon so I could sit down and relax with a nice bowl.

Tendonitis makes cutting up fruit, umm, challenging. It's really hard to hang on to something that's juicy. It takes me twice as long as it used to. Got the cantaloupe done (of course sampling several chunks to make sure it was good) then onto the watermelon.....

Bitter tears of disappointment. I only cut one piece and damned if it wasn't the blandeset most tasteless piece if fruit I have ever had. I didn't know it was possible for watermelon to have NO taste.

Chucked it in the freezer to out with the trash and scooped up a bowl of cantaloupe. *sigh*

@kbois

Sorry to hear your watermelon was no good. It’s frustrating when fruit looks good but is flavourless after going to the trouble of preparing it. At least you had the cantaloupe, so that’s a victory for you.

PS: I hope your wrist feels better soon.

you dont notice it in there.  i add it to ricotta for lasagna too just to save a little money.. but we never notice it

I started thinking after reading this as to what kind of cheese my mom uses when she makes lasagna. As I couldn’t remember, I asked her. She alternates layers of cottage cheese - two - with a layer of mozzarella along with the meat and noodle layers.  No ricotta in sight. I have to say her lasagna is very creamy and very delicious.

I live in the MD suburbs of Washington, DC. This is the "big" year for cicadas. The 17 year brood. We had a large tree in the front yard but it got damaged in a storm and had to be taken down. The only front yard tree now is my next door neighbor. I went over yesterday to take a look and the tree is covered with the husks of the molted cicadas. Not only that but I'd say there were at least 1000 of the husks on the ground at the base of the tree.

This is just ONE tree. So imagine that multiplied by every tree they like.

Oh and they are pretty large, for a flying bug. Dragonfly sized maybe? They aren't coordinated either. When they are at their worst you have to watch out, they might just fly and smack you right in the head. They don't bite though, or sting.

This is our first hot week of the year so they are just exploding out of the ground. By the weekend they'll be in full chorus, according to the information the sound of them can be as loud as a lawnmower, decibel wise.

I lived in Maryland for the last round 17 years ago. My younger son was two and thought they were fun to catch and he wanted to play with the empty husks... I agree with you though... yuck!

They can do some pretty serious damage to trees and yes they are freaking big ,ugly and loud.

Happy Friday everyone! (On a positive note...I got into a pair of jeans today that had been too tight, fits perfect now so I'm happy!)

Excellent!! That's great news!!!

and we have cicadas up here too.  And June bugs (and too many more) and the Massasauga rattle snake.

The snake is only found in a couple of places in Ontario. Like other Canadians, it doesn't like trouble, would rather talk to resolve problems, but if pressed, will bite.

Yuck, just yuck.  I grew up in the Maryland suburbs and I so remember that plague from 1970. They were everywhere and it wasn't any fun being a safety patrol in elementary school and doing battle with them. The novelty wore off really quickly. They do damage younger trees but that damage isn't apparent until years later.  Guess this is your sign to spend a lot of time indoors at the casino @Ryan Jones  😉

Over 91f with the humidity, atm.  Salad plate in order for dinner... romaine lettuce lightly dressed, along with green onion, cucumber, tomato, ham, hard cooked eggs, and a few baby potatoes (done in the IP ).

We are both drinking water ... Michael is not a lover of water but likes it if we soda stream it and add lemon. I love the soda stream, much better than bottled waters.

Keep cool

Wow... it's actually nice here in FL. Lower 90s but dry air and really breezy. The morning was perfect...nice and cool!

I've got salad on the menu for tonight too.. along with some sockeye salmon filets that were on sale a couple of weeks ago and are thawing out.

Water... yeah, just one of those things you gotta do. I'm fine with tap water...we keep a pitcher in the fridge. The only time I buy bottled water is if we're going on a road trip or right before hurricane season. Which I just realized is now... guess what I'm adding to the grocery list?

bugs, just, no. dragonflies, yes, because they eat mosquitos, but everything else, just no
snakes? we have them everywhere here in this part of Texas. we haven't seen, or heard, a rattler in this house, but we have in previous ones. the other critters though we've seen them plenty - possums, racoons, mice, skunks (we have a new one at work we can smell it) some mornings we can hear the coyotes, when Number Two was still in high school, we'd see the occasional owl during early morning trips
the weather is nice today, the rains will return this weekend but right now it's dry and not too humid
water, ick, i can't just drink water it has to be glacial cold, lots of ice, better if it's got ice or lemon or cucumber

dinner? it's Friday and i don't usually plan a Friday dinner

hope your day has been a good one

we see foxes, raccoons, skunks, rabbits .. .there was the large 10pt buck incident a few years ago, too.  But that's the only time i know of.  We get lots of stink bugs.. omg they are ugly things and they stink.

it's too damn early for this heat.. but we buttoned up the place and it's gotten rather breezy and cloudy.. so maybe there is hope ...

They are saying no haircuts until august!!!!   man bun?  Alice band?  Give Husband scissors?

I complain because my short hair is now long enough for a decent-sized ponytail, but I really feel bad for men, because it’s obviously much harder for the majority.

Personally, I’d go for the “give husband scissors” option because I abhor man buns, and I have no idea what an Alice band is.

I mean, Mike is very trustworthy, right? I’m sure he could do a respectable job to keep the hair out of your eyes and off your shoulders.

He would slice off a man bun.. with a dull knife.   He's not a fan.

Alice band: I never knew they have a name. And I get the where they got it from as it came to me while I was typing this post.

Man bun/Alice band - hard no for both.

I think clippers only work well on shorter hair, though I could be wrong.

I bought hair cutting scissors to do my bangs, but let the rest go. My hair is really thick and full of layers, so I don’t want to try cutting it.
