Morning, DiC. Tired today... Tired everyday, lol! My throat hurts, but it hurts differently than it did before, so I think that's a good thing? Hope you all have a great day! :)

senescence Audio pronunciation

noun | sih-NESS-unss

Definition

:
the state of being old : the process of becoming old

:
the growth phase in a plant or plant part (such as a leaf) from full maturity to death

Senescence can be traced back to Latin senex, meaning "old." Can you guess which other English words come from senex? Senile might (correctly) come to mind, as well as senior. But another one might surprise you: senate. This word for a legislative assembly dates back to ancient Rome, where the Senatus was originally a council of elders composed of the heads of patrician families. There's also the much rarer senectitude, which, like senescence, refers to the state of being old (specifically, to the final stage of the normal life span).

I've not heard this one before ...

Ooh, fun word! One I was not aware of. Thanks! :)

Maybe we could somehow permanently unsubscribe to Mondays? That would be cool.

I’d be ok with that. But then, would Tuesday become a problem? Lol.

Does that to me frequently. Bbq is its favorite. I could be nattering on about anything and suddenly bbq is in the middle of a sentence.

I've probably heard this because of my early botanical (forestry) background.  As to other applications, as long as this here "senior" is just "senescent" and not "senile", it's all good.  :)
