Popular Post clochette Posted March 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 11, 2020 Just now, Valkyrie said: The State University of New York system are closing all their campuses for the semester starting on the 19th. Classes will be completed online. My intern said her entire class is freaking out about the possibility of not getting enough clinical hours to graduate. A lot of people are doing placements in schools right now. If they close, they'll have to delay graduation. Where I work, they're having individuals over 60 stay home and not come to dayhab. We can still see them, but have to schedule them on an outpatient basis. My university, UPJV, has campuses all around Picardie. Those in Oise are close just like any other schools. Those in Amiens in Somme, where I study, are open cause they are not in "a cluster zone". But the thing is students are going back and forth between Oise and Somme and could easily spread it. In Amiens 4 students are in quarantine 2 of which have been tested positive. Closing the university like others schools could be an option, teachers could send courses by email... But honestly the university is already so slow with lot of administrative problems I don't know which would be worst... 4 3 1
Popular Post clochette Posted March 11, 2020 Popular Post Posted March 11, 2020 (edited) I laughed yesterday when I went grocery shopping. It was like everyone had a kid with them due to schools being closed and more than a couple of times I heard thing like "ugh you drive me crazy I can't wait for you to go back to school" it was only the second day in a 14 days wait Edited March 11, 2020 by clochette 7

There aren't any confirmed cases in my area yet. 7

We are told to work from home, and all schools and colleges will close on Friday (the 13th ) for two weeks. They're going to pass a law to forbid gatherings over 1000 people, and they recommend avoiding gatherings of more than 100 people. More restrictions may come... With a total of 43 confirmed cases in the Republic of Ireland, the Government has cancelled all Saint Patrick's day parades (actually that happened on Monday, when there were only 24 cases), and is now talking about the possibility of closing schools for the foreseeable future. I'd say more, but I might run foul of the No Politics rule here on GA... 5 4

But people have gone a little crazy and are emptying the supermarkets, even though there is no shortage of food and other goods. 9 hours ago, Headstall said: It's happening all over the world now. Just be safe, Tim. I will. I can work from home, so that's OK. 9 hours ago, Albert1434 said: Aloha Timothy take care of yourself Hi Albert, I will, but I'm not at risk. Or at least I don't know anyone who is ill so far. But I guess we're all only five or six people away from someone with the virus, right ? I mean I know someone, who knows someone, who has been with a guy who has tested positive. So that's only three steps removed. 6

One of our major supermarkets has announced it will not be accepting returns on panic purchases. You bought 500 rolls of toilet paper and 40 cases of baked beans then they are all yours... enjoy 8

This also happened in 1998, when there was a major industry strike. The Danish Yeast Company (De Danske Gærfabrikker) has sent out a press release: Keep baking, Denmark, we won't run out. 8

And the breaking news in Ireland is: "THE GOVERNMENT HAS announced that schools across the country are to close to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The decision applies to all schools and third-level institutions, and none will open tomorrow. It will also apply to other public facilities. Furthermore, all museums, galleries and tourism sites will shut. Mass gatherings of over 100 (indoor) and 500 (outdoor) are cancelled. All these measures will take effect from 6pm today until 29 March. The significant development comes as confirmed cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus in the Republic of Ireland now stands at 43. One person has died from the virus here so far." https://www.thejournal.ie/coronavirus-school-clsoure-5039700-Mar2020/ Interestingly this announcement was made by Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Leo Varadkar whilst on a visit to the USA as part of the annual exodus of Government ministers to the USA to celebrate St. Patrick's Day (although fewer than usual have travelled this year, but this may be in part due to the fact that we currently only have a caretaker government following a recent general election). I also read in The Journal that President Trump is suspending all travel between the US and Europe for 30 days from tomorrow, but that this doesn't include the UK or Ireland. https://www.thejournal.ie/coronavirus-case-trinity-main-points-5043197-Mar2020/ Edited March 12, 2020 by Marty Flipping typos! 7 1

If the rain stays away I might even do a bit more tidying of the garden. 1 3 4
