Working retail as a teen, I didn't enjoy it at all.  You have my sympathy, Nick.  If you get the chance, read some of astone's short stories about working retail.  There are some good laughs about his customers from hell.

True story.  The kids I taught here thought I was an idiot wearing short sleeves while they were bundled up in heavy winter coats, wool scarves, boots, hats and gloves.  The temperatures in the morning were around 75 F, and they thought that it was freezing. The zoo has a Snow Dome with artificial snow for kids to play in and a long icy slope for sledding.

Ah, sweet youth (it's wasted on the young). I have been there and done that for 59 years before I got the heck out and moved here.  Just remember I did encourage you to do international teaching and move somewhere much warmer.  It is the folly of youth to not listen to the wisdom of their elders.

That reminds me of a family holiday we had in the tropical north west when I was in high school. The town was clearly divided into two groups. Tourists in shorts and t-shirts enjoying the beach and warm weather while the locals were in jeans and jumpers trying to stay warm
