The campaign for equal rites for dwarf planets continues.... I do...the poor thing has suffered a lot as it is... The person below me thinks that the Taj Mahal should be one of the new 7 wonders.... Please vote for this undying symbol of Love at New7Wonders
B1ue Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 (edited) I do...the poor thing has suffered a lot as it is... The person below me thinks that the Taj Mahal should be one of the new 7 wonders.... Please vote for this undying symbol of Love at New7Wonders Sorry, nope. The Acropolis has more cultural significance. The Hagia Sophia has more spiritual significance. The Alhambra is historically more important. The Great Wall of China is physically more impressive. For pure ostentation, you can't trump the Coliseum (they staged naval battles in that thing). On artistic merits, I prefer the Eiffel Tower. Finally, I'd vote for the Statue of Liberty out of sheer patriotism, and because I like the spirit in which it was originally erected. If the Taj Mahal had been completed, maybe. Or maybe not. You'll notice that, with the exception of the Statue of Liberty, my favorites from the site's list served a living, active function in addition to being artistic. The Taj Mahal is extremely beautiful, but I object on a personal level to tomb art on that scale. Edit: I would have voted for Angor Wat, though. The person below me didn't go to church last Sunday. Site Administrator Graeme Posted June 25, 2007 Site Administrator Posted June 25, 2007 The person below me didn't go to church last Sunday. I haven't been that regular recently, but last Sunday, I did go. The person below me is trying to organise a big vacation.
AFriendlyFace Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 The person below me is trying to organise a big vacation. No, but have an awesome time! The person below me likes oranges ALOT!
BeaStKid Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 If the Taj Mahal had been completed, maybe. Or maybe not. You'll notice that, with the exception of the Statue of Liberty, my favorites from the site's list served a living, active function in addition to being artistic. The Taj Mahal is extremely beautiful, but I object on a personal level to tomb art on that scale. Taj Mahal is neither under construction nor is it incomplete. It took 20 years to build that wonderful structure. You favour structures whicxh have a spiritual significance but not that which has emotional significance--isn't that being a bit hypocritical in an itsy bitsy teeny weeny way?? Taj Mahal is not JUST a tomb. It is a symbol of love, from the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan to his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, whom he promised that even after her death she'll remain immortal through his undying love. And thus Shah Jahan immortalized Mumtaz Mahal and his love through Taj Mahal. Still you say that it has no significance?? You favour the Great Wall because it is physically impressive?? I agree. But if you see the Taj, standing at an imposing height of 213 feet, on the banks of river Yamuna, made entirely of marble with rich and intricate carvings and diamonds studded into the walls (which unfortunately were looted by invaders)---That's impressive. Another fact---It is eathquake resistant---Imagine the advanced knowledge of the architects of that era. Huge slabs of marble were rolled in just like the pyramids from over 1000 kms away. That's impressive. Nevertheless, it's your personal opinion and living in a free world you are entitled to it. The person below me likes oranges ALOT! I do like them, but i prefer cherries and mangoes to oranges. BSK The person below me is procrastinating on something..
eliotmoore Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 (edited) blah, blah, blah big marble tomb, loved his wife... stupid metal phalic symbol rusting away in the middle of Paris... large monument to futility meandering across the landscape... BSK The person below me is procrastinating on something.. I think the wonders of the world are the ancient and vital cities we have created. So much more fascinating than a simple structure. I've seen so few, but when I think of Brussles, New York or Hong Kong, what marvels of inginuity. Sometimes I think a Japanese garden is the bigger wonder too. I am so procrastinating this morning... don't want to go out in the rain mommy! The person below me owns more than fifty science fiction books (NOT magical fantasy stuff) Edited June 26, 2007 by eliotmoore
BeaStKid Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 The person below me owns more than fifty science fiction books (NOT magical fantasy stuff) Nope, but i like to read them...lol I think the wonders of the world are the ancient and vital cities we have created. So much more fascinating than a simple structure. I've seen so few, but when I think of Brussles, New York or Hong Kong, what marvels of inginuity. Sometimes I think a Japanese garden is the bigger wonder too. I'd like to add Delhi, India's capital, to that list of ancient cities too. With over 1500 monuments and a history which goes back more than a millennia, it is really a fabulous city. BSK The person below me is addicted to GA and spends more than 2 hours a day on it
Ieshwar Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I do feel addicted, yes. If I'm home, it's about 2 hours or perhaps more. The person below me has been told that he's arrogant! Ieshwar P.S I have voted for the seven wonders. I did vote fo Tak Mahal coz it's a monutental architecture and is the symbol of love that goes on beyond life and death. VERY romantic! Hope that the one I've voted do win.
Site Administrator Graeme Posted June 26, 2007 Site Administrator Posted June 26, 2007 The person below me has been told that he's arrogant! Not recently. Not for years, I think. The person below me is missing someone.

rknapp Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 I should but I don't. All I ate today was a real cheesesteak, and burger king. The person below me snickered when a little boy peeked down the pants of a mannequin and got excited. I don't blame him... the ones at my store are very detailed and sculpted... and the ones in the mens bathing suit department were wearing only bathing suits today. It's good thing that they're hard plastic, or I would be going nuts!

Well, actually, I wasn't so little. in fact, 15 isn't little at all, especially when I was almost 6' tall. And the mannequin was supposed to be anatomically correct, so I HAD to peek, right? And it WAS anatomically correct! That cute sales guy at our A&F didn't lie! I was excited, but only to the point of grabbing Doug and making him peek too. Then we busted up laughing, along with the A&F sales guy. The person below me has never bought anything at an A&F (Abercrombie & Fitch) store. Colin
