Popular Post TetRefine Posted April 29, 2019 Popular Post Posted April 29, 2019 At 27, I still can’t tie a tie well enough to wear. I’ve always gotten other people to tie them for me, then when I take it off I just loosen it and slip it over my head. That way I can just put it back on next time without having to tie it myself. Some of my ties have been tied for four or five years... In my defense, I only wear a tie probably 3-4x a year and despise every second it has to be around my neck. 3 4

Some of my ties have been tied for four or five years... In my defense, I only wear a tie probably 3-4x a year and despise every second it has to be around my neck. I was forced to wear a tie for decades while working in retail in the late seventies through the nineties. When you have to wear them every day, you learn how to tie them (even if it’s not exactly one of the standard methods). It never made sense to me to have to dress up to work in a discount store, especially considering that women had much greater freedom in their dress code. And there were few male customers who wore ties when they shopped in those stores. Still, it was better than the IBM-inspired dress code of white shirts and ties with black slacks for engineers in the pre-Silicon Valley high tech industries. Eventually I changed employers and no longer needed to wear the tie. My location in the Bay Area and changing standards meant that we generally wore company-supplied polo shirts with our employer’s logo on them in one job – and red shirts with khaki pants at another (guess who?). These days, I only wear ties to weddings and funerals. And the last wedding I attended was in the early nineties. My brothers have been informed that when I die, no ties or dark, sombre clothing is to be allowed at my memorial service. It cannot be a religious service and no hymns may be played (even though my father was a Protestant minister and my brothers and their families are very religious). ;–) Edited April 30, 2019 by Former Member

I recently read an article by a woman who was attempting to write about the women (mother/daughter) who created the questionnaire. Initially the company behind the questionnaire was cooperative, but required the writer to go through the training as though she was going to administer them herself – requiring her to pay the more than $1000 fee. After she completed the sessions, they declined to cover the cost as they had suggested they might and stopped responding to her. There are strong indications that the whole thing is a scam, a pyramid scheme. It is easy to intentionally change the results of the questionnaire by adjusting the answers to a few of the questions. The results are not an indication of your permanent ‘type,’ merely an indication of a particular period in your life. It is no more scientific or magical than a horoscope.

I've found the types remarkably useful when dealing with coworkers. Like, real-world situations. Knowing the common strengths and stressors of each "type" is helpful. I have applied use here, and I know it works in our organization in my limited usage. So, believe what ya will, and so shall I. 🙂 2 1 2

Since you can take the test (or derivative tests) for free loads of places, I think the pyramid scheme thing wouldn't be so effective... 4 1

The whole money thing just gives me anxiety, lol! It's a pretty inconvenient thing to be terrible at. I was evicted and became homeless because of my ineptitude with finances. I now have my monthly bills automatically paid for out of my checking account. The ones with fixed amounts are paid by my credit union. My utility bill (gas and electric), which fluctuates, is automatically withdrawn by the utility. My Disability payment is direct deposit. This allows me to play with the remainder for things like groceries and other expenses. I had considered changing the account the Disability is paid into and having an automatic transfer move a smaller amount into checking, but not only would I need to figure out how to deal with the utility bill (non-fixed amount), but it would be extra work to set up. I would have had to declare bankruptcy, but my homelessness period plus the fact that my Disability income cannot be taken by creditors meant that my huge debt is now too old for my creditors to pursue. The only debt that I repaid was to the phone company that I get my internet connection from. It was far smaller than the amounts I owed two credit card companies (I only had two credit cards).

Credit cards are the devil. The fact that it's just expected that we'd go into debt to an organization which can change the rates they charge at any moment is a terrible failure of our society. 2 3
