Viv, I just found your stories a few months ago and I can't help devour each new one I come across.
I love the way you write. In this particular story the sadness and grief of both Tracey and Casey (I just realized their names rhyme, lol.), and the anger both these boys feel fuel this chapter. Tracey was acting out, filled with pain and sadness over losing his mother. True, he shouldn't have done what he did, but he's facing up to his crimes and he's going to make amends.
Casey is fighting his own demons since the death of his father. They are both struggling with trying to cope with how to handle their emotions, Casey, lashing out in anger, and Tracey, acting out of anger and sadness. These boys are so similar and I hope that Casey can calm down some b/c it's not good for him and he's just stressing his mother out more.
I did want to point out one thing though. It was prevalent throughout this chapter, but not in any of your earlier work. There was an extra comma after every ending quotation marks, and there were also extra commas at the end of sentences instead of periods, or maybe after periods. There were even commas after question marks and exclamation points. For example: these sentences are just off the top of my head: "Tracey, you go and sit down at the table and start to eat,", Paulette said. "Why would he do that?", Casey asked.
See what I mean about the extra comma. Those commas don't belong there. You never put commas after quotation marks anyway unless you are using the quotation marks around a title to something - book, movie, TV show, etc.
Anyway, I'm going to start the next installment of this hella awesome story.
