Will the recipients of Lucien's blood notice any difference in it? Or is Lucien able to prevent them from noticing, as he does when establishing a bond or not? While I also understand that the blood keeps folks alive for centuries, is it just for the old folks? The following makes me curious as to how it fully works...and what would happen if it stopped. And....has Eli been down to the records Lucien mentioned to see if he can break the bindings? Now, with Lucien’s blood sharpening his perception, he could see it for what it was: residue. The accumulated effect of generations of vampire blood, bred into the bone structure and the skin and the specific way the light caught their faces. They were beautiful because they’d been built on stolen material, and the beauty was a receipt.

Simply a brutal tale of survival, and proof of Vane's philosophy that we are only beasts, cannon fodder, weaklings, only Vane gets it backwards, as the boys do find shreds of their common humanity.

I would have to agree with both commentators, and again, I realize the age of our protagonists plays a huge role in their actions; that Miles felt he could not say goodbye, as we are left to believe, speaks volumes. All of that and the comments above hinge on a supposition, so the questions are: did Miles leave a note, have that difficult discussion with Troy? If he did, then other things become clearer, such as checking in with Eric. Will we see the answer to these questions when we next read Troy's POV? If he just walked out, then I find myself in the "I don't like Miles camp." I'm just on a fence here.... And simply along for the ride....

Perhaps offering himself instead of Eli? We know he is extremely upset with his so-called family life and his grandfather...

Well now, what we don't know is if there was any communication, verbal or written, left for Troy when Miles left. If there wasn't, then I would consider that to be a very shitty thing to do. It may/might be best if both boys simply moved on with their lives: Miles finds the therapy that works for him, and the same for Troy. I could see at the end of this story, both finding different partners, and being not only happy with their lives, but with each other's new life. I suspect that there will be many humongous bumps in the road to come, and thankfully, I'm just along for the ride; now if the driver of that Uber turns into Kage, I might have to start drinking...

Has Adrian condemned others to death, if not...will he do so, is his easy-going effort with Eli just a ruse, or is he falling for Eli? I am curious what is or has been done to the 47 others to make them so compliant? If the blood is tainted by drugs or drink, would that have an effect? There are so many ways this could go in, and I am loving it!

And the tension builds very slowly. When trouble comes, how will Gnaeus comport himself, at the enemies in front of him, or those he perceives to be weak???

Julian needs to sit with Mr Clarke, look at the figures, and ask themselves what the plantation nearly brought to its knees is actually worth...I imagine much less than recouping the funds he lost through mismanagement. The second question is what it would actually take to restore the plantation to profitability... I would subtract that number from the asking price, and then make a realistic offer. Best yet, have a few other 'plantation' owners make an offer, if they were to sell, to truly gauge the actual value. Use both of those figures and quotes, and offer his father pennies on the dollar...ensuring most of the 50K remains, not only to restore the plantation, but to expand... Lastly, find a way to get Miles out to the islands....In 1848, fortunes were made and lost overnight in San Fransciso due to rampant speculation. I have a sneaking suspicion the reason for the sudden demand is that Father may have found his balls in a vice of his own making and needs the funds to meet the call on his untimely 'investments'...and faces ruin.... I consulted my investment advisor for this advice...so ya know....it's gotta be true....
