Benedetto’s actions and sermons, while stirring unrest and unease among lower classes, are having a powerful effect otherwise. The major religious houses can see the support they depend on threatened by the instability Benedetto preaches. He has in fact, far overreached his proper role in the scheme of things. By not directly condemning or confronting him, Lorenzo and his fellow merchants have allowed him to become a problem for his superiors to “manage”.

Time, it is said, heals all wounds…this estrangement between Dante and Alice, hopefully will pass or ease with time. I suspect there could be workarounds for Dimmi to attain his freedom…he could always be sold to someone like Alice with the agreement that she would free him… Matthew is sort of pissing me off knowing the stuff in his closet would not welcome the light of day…he owes much to the Mitchels and others, and he should make peace with his miserable self… What is the status with Mistress Carolyn? I find it amusing that Dante is a tad jealous over Dimi’s first word…how long till he tells Frank to talk to his son over some mischief Dimi got into???

Reverend Father, In recent weeks the preaching of Fra Benedetto has drawn increasing crowds among the people of Florence. The fervor of these gatherings has become the subject of conversation among both clergy and magistrates. It seems prudent that those entrusted with the spiritual guidance of the city consider together whether such activity remains within the proper discipline of the Church.
