Julian needs to sit with Mr Clarke, look at the figures, and ask themselves what the plantation nearly brought to its knees is actually worth...I imagine much less than recouping the funds he lost through mismanagement. The second question is what it would actually take to restore the plantation to profitability... I would subtract that number from the asking price, and then make a realistic offer. Best yet, have a few other 'plantation' owners make an offer, if they were to sell, to truly gauge the actual value. Use both of those figures and quotes, and offer his father pennies on the dollar...ensuring most of the 50K remains, not only to restore the plantation, but to expand... Lastly, find a way to get Miles out to the islands....In 1848, fortunes were made and lost overnight in San Fransciso due to rampant speculation. I have a sneaking suspicion the reason for the sudden demand is that Father may have found his balls in a vice of his own making and needs the funds to meet the call on his untimely 'investments'...and faces ruin.... I consulted my investment advisor for this advice...so ya know....it's gotta be true....

I need to say this before I read the story...Bullcrap to whoever wrote the review...I love this story and you can tell by my comments... I think the following applies in many situations, and yours as well... "It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood..."

I keep repeatin myself, but I loved this chapter and my dictionary grew... “I wouldn’t want you to bring a child into the world hugger-mugger Talk about a self-serving pity party... It was mentioned later in the story that Minty stuck her oar in where it wasn't always appreciated; I can think of a place where that oar could go....

All I got is that this is worth the time to read, you will be pulling your hair out, laughing at the antics, and enjoying a well-crafted story!
