  1. https://io9.gizmodo.com/infodump-mary-sue-and-other-words-that-authors-are-1663345948 A Great article, and one that is timely with some of the talk on Worldbuilding, Withholding Information, and InfoDumps. I'll quote the InfoDump section, as I feel it applies. He adds, "It's a term of contempt, used to abuse by fearful people. Definitely worth hating!"

  3. This is nothing against the previous poster, or anyone else. After reading that article about 10 Rules we wish Fantasy/SciFi Writers WOULD Break (see my blog), among other articles on worldbuilding and story writing, I am now firmly in the camp, there is nothing wrong with InfoDumps. InfoDumps are practically needed in SciFi and Fantasy in order to get world info across. I keep reading here on GA and other sites now, "No InfoDumps," and I'm really starting to ask "Why? Who started this Anti-Dump movement?" Rules are made to be broken. Back on topic.
  4. In my humble opinion, there is a difference in holding back info in order to reveal it later on, and totally withholding information. One makes the story move at a pace you control, and the other is just being a dick. Again that is my opinion. Holding info back can be as easy as this: Example: You know the full details of a car the character is buying. The seller of the car, doesn't know it's bumblebee in disguise. So, write the seller ignorant of what the car truely is, but talks up what they know. Later on you reveal it's bumblebee, and he's undercover to follow megatron.
  5. Hello everybody! Looking forward to working with everyone in the club, and seeing what we all talk about!
  6. Both really, and a brief on the points above. 1. The Agency is a mix based on the Spanish Inquisition, and National Socialist Party of 1940's Germany. While the Vatican Accords, and the Earth governments that signed them, created the agency in the 1700's, the Agency of then is not the same as the agency of 2017. They've become Zealots in intolerance. They operate in secret, and have their fingers in almost everything. Though, they don't have access to some things, like DMV info, unless they hack it. Most Governments, don't know what they are doing either, and those that do, some support, most don't. 2. House Anfalas is somewhat, sorta based on Royal Family of England, and POTUS. 3. The Vatican Accords, is a lot like the UN charter, but with some MASSIVE consequences for breaking them. All parties tread a very fine line, and no one, not even the Agency wants to break them. There is a few other things, but they would cause some spoilers for the next chapter if I mention them right now. I will say, that even though the story is set in Washington D.C., I'm intentionally keeping a good chunk of Politics out of the story. It's hard, and I catch myself putting in my Libertarian Beliefs into the story. I've only had to take out < Redacted >. (I will say, there is an upcoming scene, in which the Boys and Dad had a State Dinner with POTUS Trump.)
  7. From the Worldbuilder's thread, in the Writer's Club.
  8. @MrM listening to it now. love it!
  9. Some of that comes out in the next couple of installments.
  10. She'll end up playing a role later on. Thanks again for reading, and I'm glad you are enjoying the story.
  11. Guardian Force Saga This one was based on a RPG campaign I was in. Most of what I'm writing for Aeris - Guardian Force, The House of Aeris, and Tales From the Guardian Force Saga, are based on game notes, and journals. So those notes were the foundation, and then I fleshed the rest of the setting out, like if I was making a RPG campaign from a homebrewed world. Some elements have changed since the first paragraphs were written, as it made more sense to expand things. The Half-Elven Warlock It's our world, as of April 2017. BUT!!! Add in another realm, the Fairie, a fantastical realm that in habits the same time/space as Earth, but it's slightly out of phase. They have Magic, and Demons, and Living Gods, and all manner of Fantastical Creatures that are myths and legends in the real world. Parts of the Fairie Realm, and Earth touch creating crossover points. Magic bleeds over to Earth, and critters can go across to either realm. That's the Foundation of the world, then I added in other elements. 1. The Agency - International Earth based Organization that keeps magical threats from crossing over. They have death camps, for beings captured that don't cooperate. 2. House Anfalas - Rulers of the Fairie people, but are in exile because of the Demon Horde that sacked the castle. 3. The Vatican Accords - treaty signed between Fairie Representatives, and Earth Govts that allow a framework of governance. <Redacted> is how they stay in effect. ()
  12. It maybe a short, but it is a fantastic story. A snippet of a memory if you will. Excellently written.

  13. One word: Powerful. I need my tissues now.
  14. A twofer:
  15. Same holds true in RPG Gaming, and Military Engagements. "The best laid plans, don't survive the first encounter." I'm the same, even when I write stuff as an outline. Where I start from, is rarely where I end up. Lately I've been keeping my notes fairly simple.

    Valentine

A very short, short that focuses on the storyteller's P.O.V. of Valentine's day. Somber, but powerful. An unique perspective.

    Chapter 1

Wow. This was a powerful short. Loved it.
  18. Thank you! Working on chapter 3 now, and I promise to keep the environmental detail coming. Some heavy description will be in the next chapter.
  19. Thank you! I appreciate the comment, and working on chapter 3 now.
  20. My only complaint about the story, is the misleading title. The story is told from the perspective of Rayn, who is not Daniel's brother. Otherwise, this was a fantastic love story, and one I highly recommend everyone to read.

  21. This was a perfect example, of a Christmas Wish. The characters are vibrant, and the situation is dire, but they were able to find Hope.
  22. Depends on the project, for me. Some of my major ones, like what I'm doing for the GA Summer contest, I'm outlining it and doing more research than normal. Others, "Have Word, Will Type."
  23. Thank you for reading! Churchill is a very interesting choice for a first name. I like it.
  24. Thank you, Sam. I'm glad you are enjoying the story.
  25. Overall a solid tale. So much going on, it's confusing, and hard to follow at times.
