  1. The "Non-Starters" part was in response to William King.
  2. You make an excellent point. Twice in our shared Earth History, we've had two "common" languages. The first being Greek around 100 B.C.E to 100 C.E. (approx.), and the second is now English in our Current Modern era. (Some may say Spanish is a close second as a Universal Language.) It's exciting to see, and I agree with what you said that, people from around the world can read the same thing at the same time.
  3. On the subject of Worldbuilding, the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America has an interesting blog post, I've used. A ton of questions to ask yourself, but you don't have to answer them all. http://www.sfwa.org/2009/08/fantasy-worldbuilding-questions/
  4. We call them cards. S.I.M. Cards that make them work on a mobile telephone system, and SD Flash Cards for storage.
  5. Absolutely would not be "motivation" and would be a site killer. It would be different, if this was a paying job, then deadlines could be enforced. But seeing as the majority of GA authors are "hobbyist" writers, with real lives outside of writing, then it would drive away authors. It would be like telling GRRM to finish, a Song of Fire and Ice. How would that be considered a "feature"? If anything, that would be a deterrent to creativity, and drive away Authors. Also, that's a bitter outlook on the site, man. "Non-Starters"? Dude... I can't even... or odd.
  6. I once stayed in a Starbucks, for around six hours, off and on. This one was inside Tampa General Hospital, and I kept checking to make sure it was alright for me to sit there. I did buy a lot of coffee that day, among other stuff they had. It was fairly busy, at times, but there were others sitting their longer than I.
  7. For me, it was three shows. Star Trek TOS, Lost In Space with Bill Mummy, and Star Wars. They ignited the passion I have for the genre, and hope to one day see humans living on Luna and Mars, before I die.
  8. I have myself set to "Follow" for the Writer's Circle Club's Writer's Forum, and I have not received any notifications of new threads, or posts. I have received them for individual topics I've followed, but none for the full club. Same for the others, I am in as well. I have it set to following, and to send a notification for each new post.
  9. Was thinking of a non-sexual story involving a blond headed twink, and three burly lumberjacks. A twist on the Goldilocks and the Three Bears story. Though, I have a feeling someone already beat me to it.
  10. We live in a time, where language is built around 140 characters, and 15 second sound bites for the nightly news. Language constantly evolves, and meaning of words change over time as well. Which is why, history majors, like myself, always tell people to read documents in the context of the era in which they were written. Too often, people reject that, and look through current lenses at ancient text. But, I ramble.... TL;DR: Language changes all the time. What is acceptable now, would not have been 15 years ago.
  11. I have one-shot, short stories which are complete, and 3 serial stories currently in process, here on GA. I work on all three stories, and a bunch of side projects all the time. It just depends on what is speaking to me at the time. I actually prefer writing in that style, as reactions to the stories let me, know if I should keep going, or say 'forget about it,' and eventually abandon the idea. Why waste my time, on something, only I will like?
  12. I agree. I like some stories about teen characters, but too often I find them hard to believe. I much rather have mature characters, and stories, as they are a lot more believable than something like Bella Swan or Katness Everdeeen.
  13. I have 20-30 completed stories sitting in my one drive, and another 10 on old fashion paper. I've lost close to 10 others, in my last move, that I don't think I can recreate. Sadly, these stories will never see the light of day.
  14. I posted a status update, just last week, saying I realized just how much of myself is inserted into my stories here on GA. Brayon and Chandon are real life friends of mine, Chad is based off of another friend, and all sorts of stuff of my life is tied into Aeris, AJ and Tommy, and Brandon and Devin. So, yeah, there is a lot of me in my stories.
  15. I almost missed this, and wanted to make sure others see it too.
  16. The fearful tyrant of the Hateful Intolerant "Regressive" Left-wing, and their crusade to ban free speech.
  17. I feel that description is everything. The "be minimalist, and let the reader paint their own picture" movement, is just cheap and lazy writing, in my opinion. EDIT: To add on to the above, there are times where an author might be too descriptive. It takes a happy median to find the right amount, and that depends on the scene, the story, the characters involved, and a crapton of other factors.
  18. I can imagine. The last chapter of a good serial story, is the hardest to write, from everything I've read. I got faith in you, and the story, tim.
  19. Yeah, they did tim. Loved the chapter overall, and can't wait to read the final next week.
  20. Oh boy... Damn tim, another great chapter... I should of kept the baseball bat out... not for the sister, surprisingly.

    Chapter 12

Excellent, and well done chapter, tim. Glad I didn't need a hockey stick for Miriam, but now, I think I need to conk Harry on the head for messing with the boys. You've painted a very vivid picture with how you wrote this chapter. The Christmas scene, the encounter with the mother, everything was beautiful. Thank you for writing, and sharing this with us.

    A New Life

Thank you for reading, AC, and for the comment. It's really appreciated, and I'm glad you found these little nuggets in this story. I can't take all the credit, as @Kitt was a fantastic editor, and I used all the insight she suggested in making this story come to life. The Real Life boys, this story is based on, were perfect for each other, and have been happily together since High School.
  23. Thank you for reading AC. Yeah, the parents never were really exposed to what was being gay, with the exception of what they saw on TV. The only reason why the Dad watched Brokeback, was it was labeled a Western. (Which I've seen before! lol) Can you imagine thinking what you see on TV is what gays are like? Thank goodness, we're starting to get halfway decent shows now.
  24. He was good in Doctor Who, but he was better in Torchwood. Captain Jack Harkness... even his name is a pickup line.
  25. Vampires, DON'T Sparkle!!!
