We all face a journey to find ourselves, our truth. Some get there early, others can never face the truth, and then there are those like him. The one on the edge of the dance floor, in the corner of the bar, watching, waiting, hoping. This is Jack's first story.
Set in 1982 in a British university town.
The Coven
“God, what a dump,” he thought to himself. And he wasn’t far off with that verdict. From the outside, the ‘club’ looked disconcertingly like his old Scout hut from school. In fact, the more he looked the more convinced he was that the building must have once been used for such a purpose. He glanced to one side. Yes, the walls were made of timber. Did he even want to be seen in such a place? Well yes, he supposed. That was the whole purpose of turning up here after all, on a mis
Finally, got up to date and am already craving for more. I love the intertwining of a classic murder mystery with the developing relationship between our two main characters - can we call Kilroy a hero? Great stuff!
I felt transported back to the Essex coastline which I last visited in the early nineties… such evocative language. A beautiful chapter, @Robert Hugill. Thank you
Holiday was WONDERFUL. The wiener dogs were well-behaved and it appears that the French love them. So many people stopped to greet them. Lilibeth was in heaven.
now stormy. Schools closed tomorrow…. I might even get some writing done.🤞
Only a few days ago we crossed and recrossed the enormously wide Rhône as it passed through Avignon. Holiday over: 5,000 km in a Peugeot 208 with Paco and the monsters, plus by the end 13 suitcases, rucksacks, and plastic bags and plastic bags and plastic bags. Now exhausted but ready for the severe weather which hits Valencia at 04.00. Went on to terrace. It’s 35° C, brilliant sunshine ahead…. And behind the clouds are gathering over the mountains….
Just seen Ryder Cup golf scores. No comment, of course, here……
A new word for me but v apt as this morning we were driving south on the “Autoroute de soleil” towards Avignon and could just hear the distant sound of thunder through the torrential rain. And now I know I have the relevant noun to show off with! Thank you, @Myr
Totally agree, again! The merger of fiction with historical facts is stunning. It’s hard not to imagine that there was a Granger at the Battle of the Nile etc….
After a week overlooking the entrance to the English Channel from the Atlantic and imagining Granger struggling in the awful gales that we had at Lizard Point, it was great to get our monthly update. Last chp was London politics now the beginning of the Christmas house party from heaven or hell, or a mixture of the two.
a great chp, Mark. Thank you…
This chp can be listed as one of the most dramatic of many dinners/evenings at Escorial. Wow, @Mark Arbour this just gets better and better. And again, I totally agree with @PrivateTim’s comments!
I fear to contradict a powerful attorney (and yes, we loved The Tunnel), but in various books Jack has expressed his dislike of Will’s antics, so much so that he reminds me of @PrivateTim! Eg, dinner after Will returns to Escorial after Travis’ plane blows up, Jack goes for him.
