I sketched out the following moody Tanka several days ago. It sat on my desk, overwhelmed with thoughts of how to change it: alternate lines; different wordings; scrapping the whole damn thing. So this morning, I not only typed it -- keeping most of the poem as first scrawled -- but, as I completed it, suddenly felt an urge to translate it into Japanese. An interesting impulse, for the translation "finds the balance" missing in the original, and winds up beautifully optimistic. So, here they are, original and Japanese version. -------------------------------------------- Tanka: Proud moon from behind The now too-cloying cloud rolls, Once you gave me hope That I’d find a place to shine, When young, many moons ago. 短歌: そら そら を、 月の風見るば、 うれしい で 明日言葉は 輝く出るば。 Tanka: Sora sora wo, Tsuki no kaze miruba, Ureshii de Ashita kotoba wa Kagayaku dereba. https://translate.google.com/?sl=ja&tl=en&text=%E3%81%9D%E3%82%89%20%E3%81%9D%E3%82%89%20%E3%82%92%E3%80%81%E6%9C%88%E3%81%AE%E9%A2%A8%E8%A6%8B%E3%82%8B%E3%81%B0%E3%80%81%E3%81%86%E3%82%8C%E3%81%97%E3%81%84%20%E3%81%A7%20%E6%98%8E%E6%97%A5%E8%A8%80%E8%91%89%E3%81%AF%E8%BC%9D%E3%81%8F%E5%87%BA%E3%82%8B%E3%81%B0%E3%80%82&op=translate

Chapter 34 - Nunta
Adam Andrews Johnson posted new chapter in Twinks in Space: Fantastic Voyage - Part Two
“Bring me back to Mama goddess!” Nunta shrieked at her mother. The goutria blood had worn off, and the two women were alone in the Galaxy Surfer’s kitchen. Alihte tried to take her daughter’s hand. “Don’t touch me!” Nunta screamed. “Mama goddess banished you from the Entry of Ecstasy; I don’t want you contaminating me!” “Nunta, please,” Alihte begged, but her daughter was incensed. She slapped her mother’s hand. “No! You’ve fallen back to the third dimension, and I don’ -

Carey returned to his study table in the library after returning several books to the stacks. Notebooks and his laptop stacked neatly. Empty coffee cups and power bar wrappers dumped in a nearby garbage can. His last semester as an undergrad. Most students had already left campus for MLK weekend. Carey lagged behind, partly to finish up some loose ends, but mostly to put the finishing touches on his application to the RAND Corporation’s associate program. After a headhunter called him out

St. Vincent's illness must be short-lived. I believe he replaces Spencer as First Lord in a couple of years. He had an extraordinarily long lifespan for this time, dying at 88.

Poor Ian. It’s hard to have so many expectations at just five years of age. He may have the smarts, but he doesn’t have the maturity yet, as witnessed b6 his meltdown about learning the technicalities of the language of music. I don’t quite get the determination to make Gaea like Earth II. Things had gone so wrong there, I would think they would want a completely fresh start. Name your cities and locations after places on Earth I. That’s fine. But make a break and make a new society with more care for each other and the world on which you are now living!

With new years eve and it's associated festivities just a day away, Andrew was keen to get an update on arrange-ments at Blue Bay, The Cameron and the Drakensberg Resort. He had, very deliberately, not communicated with any of the properties while at the game lodge knowing that if anything pressing came up they would contact him. Not that he micro managed - much - but he just wanted to be up to speed. They would be at Blue Bay this year and were looking forward to it, so while Ryan was on 'baby

April 21, 2004 Escorial Palo Alto, CA Will I opened the door to find my father there with Jake behind him, as if he were Jake’s human shield. “Welcome home,” Dad said, and embraced me warmly. I thought it was nice that he’d taken off his tie and shed his jacket, as if to announce that he was no longer Mr. Corporate America. “I missed you,” I said warmly. Dad looked at Travis, then at Jake, then back at Travis, pretty much just like I had, then finally kicked h

“Of course not. I discovered it when I stripped almost all of his magic. Which is why he wants Parallax’s star.” “You tortured you own brother and stripped his magic?” The feeling in the pit of Beckett’s stomach, the almost living entity he’d been feeling since his erupted, recoiled. “Of course not. It was council business. He’s a criminal who lives in Eshya. It was for the safety of others.” Kastor delicately put his bowl down, wiping the side of his mouth with his thumb and licking i

The roads were clear enough the following Tuesday for the boys to go back to school. Caleb and Bryan certainly weren't ready to return to the grind of the American education system; however, Steve was absolutely ready to return. He loved the boys, but he was a little tired of playing babysitter, as cabin fever was starting to take hold, pushing the brothers into fighting over the tiniest slights. Bryan and Kenny got out of Diego's truck and went their separate ways. Both boys had grown a li

I read GA off of the android app and have had issues with ads popping up like "click bait" stories you would read from FB. Prior to a couple of days ago I would get an ad at the top of the story, then an occasional ad page when I'd change chapters. One particular story, "Sigil of a Wolf", Topher Lydon, won't even show content past the intro paragraph, just a white bar with ads over where the content should be (I read in dark mode), but no words. Is this due to an update in the app? I'd really like to get back to my stories.

April 21, 2004 Escorial Palo Alto, CA Will The big Escalade limo drove up the stately drive and stopped at the porte cochère to deposit its passengers. I got out and smiled, happy to be home, while Travis followed me, pausing to stare at this massive house. “This place is like the Buck Mansion,” he said. My first reaction was to point out that Escorial was way nicer than the Buck Mansion, but I managed to stop myself from doing that and thus sparking an argument over

<>><<> Is there truth amid the pain like motorcycles in the rain wet through to our skin again and again, we seek to win What is truth, and what is life we cannot outrun the strife tears fall from heartbroken eyes we tell and tell and tell the lies There is nowhere we can run we live and die by the gun our tattooed skin we can’t shed where are the drugs to stop the spread Words are the only sword I own and I don’t stand here alone bl

This unofficial holiday is celebrated annually on May 6 and is also sometimes called National Beverage Day. While the origins of Beverage Day are unknown, we can all safely assume that the day encourages people to honor their beverages of choice and acknowledge that a humble beverage has the power to make or break many situations. A good beverage can energize you after a long, tiring day. It can also make a long, boring meal go fast, it can bring together two strangers, and it can make a party more fun. Whether your preferred beverage is a hot cup of tea, a delicious and healthy smoothie, or a tall glass of lemonade, Beverage Day is the perfect excuse to indulge yourself by drinking it all day long. Sit back, relax and celebrate the day with your favorite beverage. It could be anything from something as simple as water to a fancy cocktail. Try new beverages. What about tasting the national drink of a country you have never visited? Have a tasting party at home. Pick up a beverage you and your guests like and make or find different versions of it to taste and try. For example, you could do a beer or wine tasting party or a tea or coffee tasting party. Have each of your guests bring their favorite brand of beverage to share and serve foods that pair with the beverage of your choice. Who knows, you may just find your next favorite beverage at one of these parties! Did You Know… …that in common usage, water isn't usually considered to be a beverage? *** I was leading a tour through Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico when a woman asked, "How many miles of undiscovered passageways are there in this cave?" *** A customer called our rental store to ask about rectangular tables. I told him we had six-foot and eight-foot tables. His response: "What's the difference?" *** The night we took our three young sons to an upscale restaurant for the first time, my husband ordered a bottle of wine. The server brought it over, began the ritual uncorking, and poured a small amount for me to taste. My six-year-old piped up, "Mom usually drinks a lot more than that." *** A little boy was brought into our emergency room after ingesting part of a plug-in air freshener. After consulting Poison Control and monitoring him, the doctor wrote on his discharge, "Patient doing well. Ready to go home. Smells good." *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ( What's the difference between graffiti and historical signatures?) You know, I wonder what that book was Ross was writing in yesterday? Does he keep a diary too? That would be universally weird, right? The boy next door that I adore keeps a journal just like me. I have no prior knowledge of such a notebook or if it is, in fact, a diary. Speaking of journals, I'm about halfway through this one. I should ask Mam to pick me up another one. Don't think for one minute that I'm abandoning you; you have been here at the most awkward juncture of my entire life. All my
