I sketched out the following moody Tanka several days ago. It sat on my desk, overwhelmed with thoughts of how to change it: alternate lines; different wordings; scrapping the whole damn thing. So this morning, I not only typed it -- keeping most of the poem as first scrawled -- but, as I completed it, suddenly felt an urge to translate it into Japanese. An interesting impulse, for the translation "finds the balance" missing in the original, and winds up beautifully optimistic. So, here they are, original and Japanese version. -------------------------------------------- Tanka: Proud moon from behind The now too-cloying cloud rolls, Once you gave me hope That I’d find a place to shine, When young, many moons ago. 短歌: そら そら を、 月の風見るば、 うれしい で 明日言葉は 輝く出るば。 Tanka: Sora sora wo, Tsuki no kaze miruba, Ureshii de Ashita kotoba wa Kagayaku dereba. https://translate.google.com/?sl=ja&tl=en&text=%E3%81%9D%E3%82%89%20%E3%81%9D%E3%82%89%20%E3%82%92%E3%80%81%E6%9C%88%E3%81%AE%E9%A2%A8%E8%A6%8B%E3%82%8B%E3%81%B0%E3%80%81%E3%81%86%E3%82%8C%E3%81%97%E3%81%84%20%E3%81%A7%20%E6%98%8E%E6%97%A5%E8%A8%80%E8%91%89%E3%81%AF%E8%BC%9D%E3%81%8F%E5%87%BA%E3%82%8B%E3%81%B0%E3%80%82&op=translate

The Night B4 Taxes
Twas the night before taxes, and all through the accounting,
Every accountant was stirring, and the numbers were mounting,
The din of the printer suddenly ceased its clatter,
So they called the SyAdmin to see what was the matter.
When I arrived, they were all in a panic and fright,
The numbers had to be in by midnight tonight,
Everything depended on a printer by Epson,
That gave zero Fs, just like George Jetson.
I worked and worked and found the bug,
The printer cable was broken under the rug.
I installed a new one. and got it running,
SysAdmins are subtle, ruthless, and cunning.

Thank you @Summerabbacat ... I'm glad I could take you back to those times. Sounds like we are about the same age ... I finished Year 12 in '81, then started full time work in '82. Schoolies, as I recall, was in its infancy back then. I know some of my classmates went, but not me or any of my close friends. Last time I went to the GC would have been late 80's I think. T'ville is loosely based on a town called Lake Cathie, while Mac Harbour is a mash-up of Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour ... all places I visited quite a few times in my youth. Hope you enjoy the rest of these stories. Thank you!

St. Vincent's illness must be short-lived. I believe he replaces Spencer as First Lord in a couple of years. He had an extraordinarily long lifespan for this time, dying at 88.

Chapter 83 Institutionalised
SilentandBroken commented on Dodger's story chapter in Chapter 83 Institutionalised
Great chapter and yet again Don is fairly absent. Yet not. Clearly he has control over Sue and by proxy, Robbie. The Alex selfie issue will cause some drama bc I don’t think Robbie will be able to talk to Nathan before hand. He will fold and ultimately regret it. I think Nicola will be the one to vouch for Robbie here and save his and Nathan’s relationship bc this will break Nathan’s heart at first before he learns the truth. Something tells me Don isn’t done trying to force a split too. I don’t him any more than I do Alex -

So on June 2, pack up your things and get out of the office earlier than usual because it is Leave The Office Earlier Day or Leave The Office Early Day. This unofficial holiday is celebrated annually on June 2, unless it falls on a weekend. When it does, the day moves to the following Monday. The day encourages people to take some time on a workday for themselves and do things that relax them. Another plus side of cutting out of work early? You avoid peak traffic hours! How to Celebrate? Get out of the office early.Make sure you inform your managers and co-workers that you will be leaving early. Do something fun since you are out early from work. Go for a movie or the happy hour at your favorite restaurant or bar with your co-workers. Did You Know… …that according to some sources, an average office worker spends about 50 minutes a day looking for files and other work-related documents? *** I've always been a disappointment. Devlin-Major was one of the lucky hospitality companies post Covid, in that business bounced back relatively quickly. For the first few weeks after the two lodges in Cape Town reopened, Andrew and Ryan spent a great deal of their time at Blue Bay and The Cameron. Every day, from 8am to 10.30am and again from 4pm to 6pm, one of them would be in the foyers of each lodge, chatting to departing and arriving guests. And the overwhelming response from their guests highlighted the reason. Ambience, hom

Poor Ian. It’s hard to have so many expectations at just five years of age. He may have the smarts, but he doesn’t have the maturity yet, as witnessed b6 his meltdown about learning the technicalities of the language of music. I don’t quite get the determination to make Gaea like Earth II. Things had gone so wrong there, I would think they would want a completely fresh start. Name your cities and locations after places on Earth I. That’s fine. But make a break and make a new society with more care for each other and the world on which you are now living!

This unofficial holiday is celebrated annually on May 6 and is also sometimes called National Beverage Day. While the origins of Beverage Day are unknown, we can all safely assume that the day encourages people to honor their beverages of choice and acknowledge that a humble beverage has the power to make or break many situations. A good beverage can energize you after a long, tiring day. It can also make a long, boring meal go fast, it can bring together two strangers, and it can make a party more fun. Whether your preferred beverage is a hot cup of tea, a delicious and healthy smoothie, or a tall glass of lemonade, Beverage Day is the perfect excuse to indulge yourself by drinking it all day long. Sit back, relax and celebrate the day with your favorite beverage. It could be anything from something as simple as water to a fancy cocktail. Try new beverages. What about tasting the national drink of a country you have never visited? Have a tasting party at home. Pick up a beverage you and your guests like and make or find different versions of it to taste and try. For example, you could do a beer or wine tasting party or a tea or coffee tasting party. Have each of your guests bring their favorite brand of beverage to share and serve foods that pair with the beverage of your choice. Who knows, you may just find your next favorite beverage at one of these parties! Did You Know… …that in common usage, water isn't usually considered to be a beverage? *** I was leading a tour through Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico when a woman asked, "How many miles of undiscovered passageways are there in this cave?" *** A customer called our rental store to ask about rectangular tables. IMO it’s Comsi‘s best work even better than GFD because it is biographical sorta. Unfortunately Comsie passed before completing GFD bc it’s truly a great story, it isn’t THIS. It’s hard to explain what I’m trying to say. He’s done others that are a damn near close to it complete with spin off stories of his friends but this one, this one stands by itself. Even GFD can’t do that.

Chapter 52 - Violence in the Streets
akascrubber commented on Adam Andrews Johnson's story chapter in Chapter 52 - Violence in the Streets
drsawzall You posted several good questions, I hope many are answered soon. I want to know who is directing the BC. The ones faced so far do not appear to have the intelligence to plan and direct attacks. I remember seeing Starship Troopers years ago and the enemy was composed of different type insects with various roles. They searched and found a head beatle and the fight on the planet was lost by the insects -

September 5, 2004 Escorial Palo Alto, CA Will After dinner I walked out to the garage with my father and Jake, glad to spend some time alone with them. “I was really impressed with the way you dealt with Claire tonight,” Dad said. “Thank you,” I said cheerfully, basking in his praise. “Why do you say that?” “You were right about Jack,” he said. “I remember how pissed off I was at Robbie, and how it was hard to get past that to see that he was struggling
